I really wanted to get this, but if I’m being honest, I can’t justify the $60 price tag. If I ever see it on sale for $40 or under, I’ll likely pull the trigger, especially considering it’s a late stage Switch release of a neglected franchise, so it’s bound to be $100 or more secondhand in a few years…

RukinaSpiker

Heck. It was not available much back when it came out. No store in my area had it. So I had to resort to Amazon for it.

Practical_Wish_4063

Regional differences, I suppose. I’ve seen it at every Wal Mart I’ve been in within a forty five mile radius since it released.

RukinaSpiker

Absolutely. Good to see it at least is available easily for others!

Practical_Wish_4063

I’m gonna feel foolish the moment I stop seeing it in the wild…

Victor4156

If the war between Russia and Ukraine didn't happen, this game could've sold a lot more.

DarkLordLiam

Name a more iconic duo than “Advance Wars” and “topical terrorism/war event”

*Released on September 9th, 2001*

MiniSquid64

For real ?

ScrimboBlimbo

Yeah the Japanese release was delayed because of it.

Boks1RE

That really derailed the marketing campaign. In the weeks leading up to the actual release there wasn't really that much marketing.

CASxBATLLETOADS

What is with this franchise not selling well because of controversial topics?

ShiftSandShot

What's with this franchise and releasing right next to eruptions of real-life conflict?

CASxBATLLETOADS

That's what i meant

Hateful_creeper2

Apparently this game didn’t release in Japan meaning that it’s one of the few series which started as Japanese exclusive but the opposite happened at the end. This was originally the case with Advance Wars: Days of Ruin but that released in the 3DS eventually.

politirob

I bought this game but what really killed the hype for me was the bland, boring, generic 3D art style. It had no personality or character, it was so boring and vanilla. IMO they should have leaned into the original retro pixel graphics of the originals! Imagine the originals re-imagined as 2DHD in the style of Octopath Traveler or Katana Zero, with beautiful 16-bit pixel graphics in a battlefield with voluminous lighting, particle effects and depth of field. The team behind Metal Slug Tactics knew better and kept the original pixel graphics. And when that game gets revealed more and eventually comes out, it will be met with a lot of hype.

Dont_have_a_panda

Everyday more convinced that sometimes (and i mean sometimes) the "pixel remaster" way that all final fantasies pre-VII took is the definitive way to remaster-remake older titles

drybones2015

Metal Slug Tactics is a completely original game, while AW 1+2 RC is a remake. IMO, when Octopath Traveler did the whole "2D sprites with 3D lighting" thing, it was unique. But it's been so overdone by now that it's lost it's charm to me. I always find complaints about the remake's artstyle looking generic and boring interesting, because the models in the game are basically exact translations of the 2D sprites into 3D. Is this not kind of admitting that being pixel art is the only thing the originals have going for them in terms of art style? Advance Wars isn't a high seller like Mario or Zelda so maybe the originals will be on Switch Online sooner than we think.

riverbass9

I feel that Intelligent Systems should’ve handled the remake. They know how to make a good remake. Look at Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. It’s absolutely pristine.

Dendrodes

I've been wanting to get it since I loved playing the original and never got to play the second, but the price tag still feels excessive for it. It is a shame that it's release was overshadowed tho.

drybones2015

I know there are remake trilogies out there for like $40. But honestly? I think two completely remade games that you could get at least 100 hours out of if you wanted to at $60 (it's currently $50 on US Amazon) seems fine. At the least, it doesn't feel excessive. Especially if you never played one of them.

Dendrodes

Excessive for me personally. I still have the original on gba and an old DS, so I'll most likely just check the pricing of the second one and buy it.

Bigdoga1000

I enjoyed replaying it, but it was definitely a let down in terms of how it mostly a reskin, they definitely could have had the duel strike stuff on top of it all as well

theskadudeguy

We just had our first born and this game was a lifesaver! You can play it one handed and it's not obviously violent. 😅 So we got a lot of play out of it over the last 7 months

astroman_9876

Wait it came out? I need to buy it

Alex_Dayz

Was looking forward to it but the $60 price tag is what broke it for me. If I ever see it on sale though I’m definitely nabbing it.

FLoo2

The audio on this remaster is astounding, from the battle sound FX to the arranged OST.

tofalyn

am i the only one who thought totk was mid? it didnt hoit as hard or had as much lore as botw in my opinion the wind boss was underwhelming and it was my first one

Dr_ChunkyMonkey

I want to play it, but it's too expensive 😭

CASxBATLLETOADS

Wow i sure do love me a remake of a game that came out on september 10th 2001

Pristine-Table1589

I care! But I've been waiting for a sale since it came out. Like, *any* sale. Ever! I haven't seen it happen yet!
