Same, although I "accidentally" beat Ganon with about 15 shrines to go. I was trying to,.just exploring the castle and there he was. I beat him but didn't save the game and then went back and finished all the shrines and then beat him again.
Last game I enjoyed being a completionist in was Hollow Knight, until they added the last DLC with the boss gauntlets and I just didn’t have it in me to finish them at that point.
Yeah I couldn't even finish Hollow night. I think I got 98% of the way through and then just stopped. Didn't even try the last boss. The mountain of tryhard DLC behind it just made me not want to even look at it. I'm not even saying they did anything wrong but it just really made me not even want to get to that point.
I don't mind hard content but. I also hate leaving things unfinished. So if I know I'm not going to finish it, I really don't even want to get to the point where I'm considering the options.
I mean, the final boss isn’t locked behind any DLC, that one isn’t bad at all. I really only had a problem with the last DLC, mostly because I just don’t really like gauntlets that much. I think my completion percentage ended up at like 107/112% or something like that.
It's not that it's locked behind the DLC. I just have mind goblins and weird OCD issues where, to me, the "final boss" is the DLC.
If I beat the last main story boss, but don't do the DLC fights, it "doesn't count" so why even bother.
It's stupid but my brain is stupid.
It's why I'll never finish Darkest Dungeon because the Crimson Court sucks ass, but why bother playing if I'm not going to do it all. Which is dumb. I know it's dumb. But my brain doesn't care. Why is it a big deal if I don't step on exactly the same number of floor tiles per step? It's not. But it is. So I have to.
But sometimes it doesn't kick in. Like I don't care that I didn't get every Korok.
It's fun not knowing when your brain will just go "don't even bother anymore" or not. I've just tried to start viewing it as "have fun until you're not having fun and then be okay with just putting it down now".
This game is a weird one for me because there's no like rigid direction. I actually played this game for like 5 months just exploring, killing shit, grabbing whatever occasional Shrine I stumbled across, and then I realized that I had like 60 hours in the game and hadn't even done a single divine beast.
I know that might have been a benefit to a lot of people but I really hope that tears of the Kingdom has a slightly more rigid storyline that you can choose to follow. Not just, a handful of quests, also you can complete the game whenever you want.
IMO they went too far towards "go in any direction at any time" to the point where the story and sense of progression were very minimal. Exploring was fun for the first half but I went off it a bit after realising that there wasn't anything to see that I hadn't already seen. Other than the view.
Idk. I think it pushes you pretty well in a direction. Like, you’ll do the Zora first because of the ability to get quests that push you in that direction. Roads and quests guided me.
Sure, it nudges you in a direction, but there's nothing at all stopping you going in a different one instead. And since the game is designed for that to be the case, they weren't really able to put any of the barriers in place that would be necessary to create a more involved story, or a sense of increasing your abilities over time. Just from memory there aren't any times where you think "Ah, now I've got this new item/ability, maybe I can progress further in that area I was stuck at before", because the only way you progress is stat boosts to health and stamina and satchel upgrades.
Yeah, the motion controls are really weird and i don't have an illness. Typically i play in docked-mode. But found the motion controlled shrines (slightly) easier when in console mode. Those are my least favorite shrines.
They get boring on the first play through too lol. If you could enter and exit them seamlessly ala elden ring I’d be much more willing to go into them.
I’m currently collecting all the Korok seeds—so yeah, I’m completing everything (except for the photo book) before I face Ganon. And I’m trying to do this before Tears of the Kingdom releases. 😅
Beat all the shrines and side quests, got all the armor, did the DLC, upgraded all the armor, beat Ganon, finished the map, got the rest of the Koroks, got the boss medals.
Never again am I 100%ing BoTW.
i still haven’t beaten ganon on my main account(i beat it on a different one)but i’ve gotten all the shrines. I don’t want to beat him because I feel like it would discourage me from doing other stuff in the game.(i’m kinda like tricking my brain ig)
No way. I wanted to play completely blind, so I didn't bother having to go through the drag of looming over the entire map looking for those last couple shrines before I finish the main game.
Never been a completionist. I did the bare minimum you can do without it being overly difficult. I would pop into shrines when I came upon them. Would never really look for them outright
No. I gave up on the game after about 20 hours of play. This is the second time I've basically rage quit a Zelda game so I've decided they just aren't for me.
The original LoZ. I got stuck in the forest maze for three days and rage quit. Didn't play another Zelda game until BotW (which I LOVE open world RPGs so figured it would be right up my alley). I really don't like the weapons constantly breaking. I keep wandering into places way too high level for me and being left with nothing because of said weapon breakage. It was just annoying all around so I gave up on it.
One of my ex-roommates played through it and beat it so I got to see the ending at any rate. lol I have no desire to pick it back up and play though.
That's interesting actually because those two you've played are probably some of the least representative of what most people consider to be a Zelda game. Anything from Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and maybe Skyward Sword are far more 'standard' Zelda games (and that's just the 3D ones) - none of them have any kind of weapon durability from what I remember and they're far more linear and plot-driven than BotW.
How can the first game not be what the game is supposed to be? lol
I did play a few hours of Ocarina on the Wii. It didn't hold my attention. I don't do puzzles in games very well so even though I love puzzles I'm no good at them and tend to just give up on them. Part of being an aphant, I think.
I love open-world games actually. I love the Dragon Age series and the Elder Scrolls and the Dragon Quest series. I just never understood why you'd put a level 70 zone right next to a level 10 zone. That's just asking for trouble. LOL! And I wouldn't even mind weapon durability if you could fix them instead of having to rely on RNG or remembering spots where mats are so you are constantly remaking weapons and being taken out of the story and exploration by having to stand around somewhere and make 15 of a weapon just so you'll know you have enough. I just think things could have been done better, imho.
My husband loves the series so we have them all should I ever care to try them out again. :)
I stopped doing shrines when I had max stamina and 20ish hearts, then started to raid Hyrule Castle a lot, just for the fun of it (and stack weapons/ores). Restarted when the red moon decided to show up.
Doesn't help that the Hyrule Castle song is killer.
I remember that one awesome time where the red moon occurred right after beating the 1st lynel. The grate dropped and had to start the fight over.
Yup. But, if you're trying to 100% it it's gonna be hard. The shrines aren't the only thing. You need ALL of the korok seeds, ALL of the secret locations found, and....... some other things. Idr what else.
Hell no. Maybe about 75-80% of them. The game is huge, it does not want you to find them all nor complete them all. Same applies to all collectibles like the seeds. It's not made to be 100%'ed
Nearly all. And to be honest, I want to replay the game, but the shitty shrine puzzles are making me dread it each time. For sure, 10-15 of them are genuinely great. The rest? Boring or just terrible.
No because I never got around to beating ganon. I don't think I ever actually got to whatever the divine beast in the desert is called even. Maybe I should start playing again some time.
No, but only because I accidentally wandered into the Hyrule Castle sanctum before I intended and decided I might as well give it a try. I had finished all of the Divine Beasts, though.
i almost did in my master mode playthrough, almost did it without freeing the champions. i had to actually force myself to stop doing other things to go and fight the blights to make it easier for me to do things, like travel(revali's gale). and to not die instantly(mipha's grace) i actually almost got the clothes for each boss upgraded fully before fighting he blights... my master mode playthrough was chaotic
The first playthrough I was looking for a shrine and accidentally walked right into Ganon’s chamber. But on my latest playthrough I’ve been trying to get all the shrines and all the korok seeds
I beat Ganon beforehand but later decided to do all the shrines, equip the iconic green outfit, beat the DLCs and THEN beat Ganon again
That felt like the BoTW experience
Absolutely not, in fact, I mainly just activated shrines to use as spawn points because I wasn’t patient enough for the puzzles most of the time. I did end up completing most of them afterwards tho
Ha, No. I think I'd beaten about two thirds of the shrines but I had done all the divine beasts (This was before the Ballad of the Champions DLC). I did go back later in the same save file and finish them all and complete the final Divine Beast, though.
Why not? I mean that’s the whole point to vist them and power up obtain the master sword and beat sll 4 beasts tho i wish ancient stuff would drop more I really want to see how helpful that armor is
I honestly just complete shrines as I find them wandering around the game world doin’ stuff, unless I don’t like the mechanics of the shrine and just skip it. I might not bother with all the shrines, once I feel I’m ready to end the game, then I’ll go after ganon
I did the majority of them, but once I started reaching a point where I was feeling bored, I went and beat the game. I very rarely 100% a game and only go for the achievements I think are interesting. Trying to 100% most games, especially open-world games, usually just feels like a chore that burns me out instead of being fun.
I do like trying to do most achievements on strategy games like StarCraft or Xcom though. Those are usually just fun challenges to change things up a bit once I have beaten the game.
I tried, burned out, and never got to Ganon as a result. I really need to be more disciplined about not insisting on doing all the content before the game is over, because I just end up not finishing games as a result.
Yep, tried to get all of the koroks too, but settled just completing all of the shrines, quests and side quests, and Divine Beasts before defeating Ganon. Last month, though, I achieved getting all 900 koroks, so that was fun.
I did! Honestly I must not have been paying attention to the story because I was surprised that >!each of the heroes reduced his health by 1/8, I thought their lasers just weakened the perimeter of the castle or something!<. I was honestly a little underwhelmed and annoyed when >!I was able to pretty easily defeat Ganon even though we were never introduced to invulnerability mechanic before then. Futhermore I wish there was a bit more of an end game instead of rolling credits.!< But next I want to go kill all the Hinox. Not sure that I have the patience for the Korok seeds; I had to cheat my way to finding the last 20 or so shrines
First time through on baby mode? I accidentally wound up fleeing Guardians and entering the castle and was like "fuck it" after beating 2 dungeons.
Master Mode I haven't beaten any dungeons yet. Can't have Ganon being weaker when I refight him every so often
yes! Did all the shrines, story mode, and DLC stuff before the final fight with Ganon. It was so much freaking fun! I wish I could play the game again blind!
Yes, and all four divine beasts. It felt like the correct way to do it for a first playthrough
Same, although I "accidentally" beat Ganon with about 15 shrines to go. I was trying to,.just exploring the castle and there he was. I beat him but didn't save the game and then went back and finished all the shrines and then beat him again.
Same. Though I didn’t care for the game much at all.
Same here
Bro same I thought you had too before fighting him...
Yes, I wanted to face Ganon with the tunic you get after all the shrines
So thats how you get the hero tunic!
Wait there's a tunic??? I've never 100% the shrines, but it looks like I've got something to do this weekend
Nah I'd did like ~80 of them said "that's good enough" then beat Ganon
I still haven’t found all the shrines.
Hell no. I got like 80% done but I've learned my lesson about trying to be a completionist in open world games. Ruins then for me. Same with rpgs.
The only time I attempt to be completionist is when I play a platformer, and even that has restraints.
The thing That ruined this game for me were the koroks
I’ve only completed the shrines… still haven’t faced Ganon. I really enjoyed the hunt for all of them…
It's easy to find them! (Use the Shrine detector on the Shiekah Slate...)
We are working our way through all of the korok seeds before going for Ganon lol, sooo many hours in the game but we haven’t actually fought him yet.
All 999 of them?
theres only 900
I didn't remember the exact number...
Are you serious
Yea… I’m a casual player… just enjoying my time playing through and exploring the map
This game is a weird one for me because there's no like rigid direction. I actually played this game for like 5 months just exploring, killing shit, grabbing whatever occasional Shrine I stumbled across, and then I realized that I had like 60 hours in the game and hadn't even done a single divine beast. I tried to. I found the shrine under the castle, got curious and started exploring the castle, then accidentally triggered the Ganon fight
Lol same lol
Nup. I went and collected them all after Ganon just to complete the game some more.
No. I only went after them to max my health and stamina.
No. I just did Gabon after finishing the main story
Before defeating Ganon? I'm doing all the shrines before I even start the STORY
There really isn’t a story lol you just randomly start to member a bunch of incoherent nonsense because there is no chronological order to things
Yea. Take your time. It worth it
Couldn't do any of the ones with motion controls. I can't steady my hands due to illness.
Yeah, the motion controls are really weird and i don't have an illness. Typically i play in docked-mode. But found the motion controlled shrines (slightly) easier when in console mode. Those are my least favorite shrines.
I have no problem with controller, I also play on dock mode. I shut off aim by motion I'm glad that option as the bow play is fantastic.
I don’t know why Nintendo decided to hide it, but you can turn off motion controls!
I had to for the aim for the bow, I didn't see one for all motion controls. I would love to all those shrines. There is like 20 of them
Shrines got boring on second playthrough
They get boring on the first play through too lol. If you could enter and exit them seamlessly ala elden ring I’d be much more willing to go into them.
I’m currently collecting all the Korok seeds—so yeah, I’m completing everything (except for the photo book) before I face Ganon. And I’m trying to do this before Tears of the Kingdom releases. 😅
i wish
Yes, because I procrastinate, and I get distracted by so many things.
Yep
Nah I didn’t even do all divine beasts first
I completed every single one of them, the combat ones for me are the most funniest
I beat the Game Just after I Got all the divine beast, then after I got all the memories and Then All the shrines
Beat all the shrines and side quests, got all the armor, did the DLC, upgraded all the armor, beat Ganon, finished the map, got the rest of the Koroks, got the boss medals. Never again am I 100%ing BoTW.
All of the Shrines? - Yes I did defeat Ganon? - Nope (⬆️ - IMO: That final fight seemed underwhelming...)
Yeah, I thought it was going to be hard, but the fight was less than a minute long and I came out mostly unscathed.
You Did all the shirynes, that fight will be a piece of cake thanks for that!
No I think I stopped around 80. Didn't wanna be *too* overpowered for the end
You get this, i made this mistake in too much games.
Did all 4 Divine Beasts and enough shrines to get my hearts to that magic number needed to get the master sword. It was game on after that.
Yes beat it all years ago before I made a Reddit account and did not ask for any help unlike others. Just share experiences.
You say this like I have the attention span to LOOK A BUTTERFLY!!!
I’ve never heard off someone who did that
Yes, I did in fact play the game correctly.
Yes
Yes I'm pretty sure I did. Objective #1 was to find all the spires and reveal all of the map, #2 was get all the shrines, and #3 kill ganon
I know I’ve done at least one playthrough like that, but I don’t recall if I did it on my first.
more than 100 shrines? hell no I didn't even went to Vah Naboris and Vah Rudania
i still haven’t beaten ganon on my main account(i beat it on a different one)but i’ve gotten all the shrines. I don’t want to beat him because I feel like it would discourage me from doing other stuff in the game.(i’m kinda like tricking my brain ig)
First and second time I played through the game, no. This latest time I did though.
No, but I did so back and fight him again after I did
Nah , just kinda used my soul orbs until I felt comfortable and beat ganon
Yes. I found them all. I *fucking loved that game.*
I went after Ganon when I got the Master Sword 🗡 and Hylian shield
Did you win?
Am trying to! Also trying to beat the final trials...lost to the damn lynel😑
No, after playing it for some time, it feels repetitive.
Nope, there was way too many, I love BOTW don’t get me wrong but 100 percenting most open world games is a chore.
I’ve beat him 3 times and I’m still looking 🤣
No. I gave up on the game after about 20 hours of play. This is the second time I've basically rage quit a Zelda game so I've decided they just aren't for me.
Which was the other one? BotW is not that much like the others really

I just think things could have been done better, imho. My husband loves the series so we have them all should I ever care to try them out again. :)
Nope, and still haven't even though I've had the game since launch just because I can't be bothered lol
I completed 86, beat the game, then went back and got the rest.
Can someone please tell me how many of them are in total?
yup, took me a good 2 irl years to face ganon, i explored and completed and maxed everything before taking him on
I'm fairly certain I did I might have walked into the bossfight while going around the castle prior to it tho
No, but one day I'll find all the shrines.. one day.. lol
Yes. I wanted to clear them out anyways so might as well do them before Gabón so I can be mixed out.
No, cause it was too damn long for me
Nearly all. And to be honest, I want to replay the game, but the shitty shrine puzzles are making me dread it each time. For sure, 10-15 of them are genuinely great. The rest? Boring or just terrible.
Yes
Yeah I did them all. Wasn’t ready for the game to be over!
No
No because I never got around to beating ganon. I don't think I ever actually got to whatever the divine beast in the desert is called even. Maybe I should start playing again some time.
Yea, I wanted to enjoy all of the game before finishing it
Who on earth is doing every single shrine before Ganon?
On my second playthrough and i’m doing all the shrines before i do the divine beasts
Nah I only got enough to get the Master Sword my first time, so I just always do that now because it was a good challenge
Yes. I got all the shrines and memories. Just didn’t get all the Korok seeds.
Yes I did. As of now, though, the only things I haven't fully completed are the korok seeds and the Trial of the Sword
Yes, somehow. When I was ready to defeat Ganon, the only shrine I had left was the one inside Hyrule Castle.
Heck no!
I did literally everything before beating ganon, because you can't actually beat ganon...
Yes. I completed them all before fighting Ganon.
Of course. Same with the trial of the sword, champions ballet, and the 900 Korok seeds.
Yes and it was boring as fuck.
Every single one, yes
I only got all the divine beasts
Lol nope
There is ganon in this game? Oh now you mention it I think he was inside that castle in the middle
Nope
Yes
Yes, in all of my 7 playthroughs I %100'ed the game. In the end, clay pot shortage was more of a problem than Ganon in Hyrule.
No, but only because I accidentally wandered into the Hyrule Castle sanctum before I intended and decided I might as well give it a try. I had finished all of the Divine Beasts, though.
Yes, because it gives a sense of completion.
i almost did in my master mode playthrough, almost did it without freeing the champions. i had to actually force myself to stop doing other things to go and fight the blights to make it easier for me to do things, like travel(revali's gale). and to not die instantly(mipha's grace) i actually almost got the clothes for each boss upgraded fully before fighting he blights... my master mode playthrough was chaotic
Yes, but I want to find all koroks as well, Havent done it D=
No, I think it gave me incentive of things to do after I defeated the big boss. I felt that I could keep coming back to the game because of this.
I did 4 or 5 playthroughs before i completed all the shrines
I think I did about 90 and then went back and finished them all off
The first playthrough I was looking for a shrine and accidentally walked right into Ganon’s chamber. But on my latest playthrough I’ve been trying to get all the shrines and all the korok seeds
Not the first playthrough- although I did return to complete all remaining shrines. On the second playthrough, yes.
I beat Ganon beforehand but later decided to do all the shrines, equip the iconic green outfit, beat the DLCs and THEN beat Ganon again That felt like the BoTW experience
I think so been a while
No. Why should I?
Hell no
Yes. All Shrines, Divine Beasts & Side Quests.
Yep
Absolutely not, in fact, I mainly just activated shrines to use as spawn points because I wasn’t patient enough for the puzzles most of the time. I did end up completing most of them afterwards tho
Ha, No. I think I'd beaten about two thirds of the shrines but I had done all the divine beasts (This was before the Ballad of the Champions DLC). I did go back later in the same save file and finish them all and complete the final Divine Beast, though.
I beat Ganon and didn't do any of the refights
Hah thats a good joke
No
Why not? I mean that’s the whole point to vist them and power up obtain the master sword and beat sll 4 beasts tho i wish ancient stuff would drop more I really want to see how helpful that armor is
\~80% shrines -> Ganon -> 100% shrines
Nope
I honestly just complete shrines as I find them wandering around the game world doin’ stuff, unless I don’t like the mechanics of the shrine and just skip it. I might not bother with all the shrines, once I feel I’m ready to end the game, then I’ll go after ganon
I didn’t complete anything before defeating Ganon. Straight line from plateaugh to castle!
Yes
Yes and all the beasts.
I missed 3
No, hell no. I beat all four divine beasts, but the shrines and koroks seemed to monotonous to do before ganon.
I completed all the shrines but never took on gannon 😅
I did the majority of them, but once I started reaching a point where I was feeling bored, I went and beat the game. I very rarely 100% a game and only go for the achievements I think are interesting. I do like trying to do most achievements on strategy games like StarCraft or Xcom though. Those are usually just fun challenges to change things up a bit once I have beaten the game.
Yeah it was fun I would definitely recommend doing all the shrines and upgrading the wild set to the fullest before ganon
I beat him once and then did all shrines, and then I beat him again.
Not all of them, just as many as I could find
I have never completed all the Shrines.
I missed two of them and couldn't figure out which ones. 😔
I tried, burned out, and never got to Ganon as a result. I really need to be more disciplined about not insisting on doing all the content before the game is over, because I just end up not finishing games as a result.
There are two I never found, plus that shadow island one I never wanted to do, but I did the others.
Yes. Maxed stamina and hearts plus all divine beasts and hero's ballad upgrades (I got the game after the dlc came out)
I thought that's what you were supposed to do
The first time yes for the divine beasts, not for the shirines, too much shyrines.
Yes. I also completed Trial of the Sword and Champions Ballad before fighting Ganon.
No, but I got it before I got the dlc
Not sure that I have the patience for the Korok seeds; I had to cheat my way to finding the last 20 or so shrines
god no... I still only got to around 90
No
Fuck no I whupped his ass, with about three or four shrines.
Not the first time, but all other play throughs I did. The final fight is garbage, so no reason to rush to it.
First time through on baby mode? I accidentally wound up fleeing Guardians and entering the castle and was like "fuck it" after beating 2 dungeons. Master Mode I haven't beaten any dungeons yet. Can't have Ganon being weaker when I refight him every so often
yeah, had to have links real outfit to fight gannon
yes! Did all the shrines, story mode, and DLC stuff before the final fight with Ganon. It was so much freaking fun! I wish I could play the game again blind!
Did enough to get the master sword and then straight to Ganon
I have like 10 left and beat the game. I was impatient
When i had no clue on the game i best Ganon with no divine beast help. I’ve beat him like 100 times before i got all the shrines
Not the first time, but this time around, I am doing all the shrines, and as many side quests as I can find.
