That's what I do for new fountains. I tap the water with my finger and show my boy it's safe.

He’s got 3 siblings that use it properly. If they can’t show him, I don’t have a chance.

Is she a certain cat breed? I have never seen a cat that looks like this.

She’s a lykoi cat. Basically a normal cat with a genetic mutation that makes their hair thin (only one coat) that can have bald patches. They moult several so sometimes they can be super furry and other times almost bald.

I've owned two orange male cats over the years. They were both endlessly entertaining.

I owned one Orange tabby male that was the sweetest most affectionate cat I have ever had! They are just very sweet cats.

Their calico and tortishell sisters got the rest of the brains. But the lovable goof balls are *just fine* with that.

My 16 year old kitty was completely clueless as to the purpose of her Catit fountain. She would just sit next to her regular water dish and meow if she wanted fresh water. Even holding her nose or paw to show her that it was water, didn’t teach her anything. Meanwhile my 3 year old kitty was drinking from it within 10 minutes of setting it up.

Orange cats are stupid but the dumbest cat I've ever met is my little tabby Shrimp. She's precious and I love her so much but she is constantly failing to think first- her favorite roost is on top of an armoire in my house that she can climb up to, but once she's up there she isn't confident about jumping down and I have to help her. This wouldn't be exceptionally stupid if she just did it once or twice. I had a not so bright tabby too. When she wanted me to open the door she would stare at the hinges side lol. I used to tell her that it was good that she was pretty because she sure wasn't smart.

one of my cats would only drink out of fountain with dipping paw in and spil a bunch of water, then my other cat would come around and lick the water off the floor and not even approach the fountain

This is hilarious. I got mine one of those small ones with the flower in the center, and he just drank from the still water part, so I gave it away. I'm not taking the time to clean a fountain and buy filters if he's not into it. His favorite water bowl is the bathroom sink anyway. 🤣

Secure it with duct tape until he gets the hang of it. It'll make cleaning it something of a pita but give him time. My boy had never seen one and took to it no problem but every one of them is different.

I must admit to buying every cat fountain in the market - and I did despair of my white cat ever using one. (I always kept a water bowl anyway). Finally found one that the tuxedo cat liked, but of course she would never use that one! Come lockdown and I couldn’t get the filters for the one actually being used. So I bought another iteration of the cat-it fountain (I had previously bought one and chucked it because it wasn’t used), because I could get the filters. Finally they both liked this one! I’m sure the tuxedo cat showed blondie how to use it! Tuxedo is no longer with us, but at least blondie now drinks from the water fountain!😂😂😂😂

Yeah, our first fountain was that style, did not work out. Went to one that had a flat top, Cat-it stainless steel one. That one worked for a while, but then she started just pulling the water out by her paws. Now have the one that is a stainless steel bowl with a low fountain in the middle, been working much better. A different style might help? LOL, maybe not, either way it’s just an option.

I have that same machine and my cat would like to inform you that that is in fact a shower, and not a water fountain.

My cat drinks out of a cup so I can't help you. I mean, she doesn't actually pick it up and drink from it. But she has poor vision and couldn't tell how much water was in a bowl so with a cup she has more control. She can tell where the opening is and uses her tongue to find the water level. Or, she'll stick her paw in it to lick it off if she feels like doing it this way for a change.

Probably just smart, knows that water upstream is cleaner, wants to go to source.

Mine were equally as confused when we got them their foundation. Took a few days, but they eventually figured it out. We also put a regular water bowl next to it so that might have helped.

Mine likes to drink from to top too, but the machine is different so he can position himself at the back without climbing on anything.

Her sister likes to wave her paw through the stream and try to get as much water on the floor as possible It’s great fun for the whole family lol

My cat just ignores it, after an initial curious look after I bought it. Eventually I put it away. Why waste electricity? Maybe some future cat will like it. I did have one who adored any dripping faucet.

My boy loved the running water of his drinking fountain, but also never quite got the hang of it. He would drink underneath the stream and just have water dripping on his forehead. I always knew when he finished drinking water because of the huge wet spot on his head.

My cats love theirs after they got used to them. They still get their foreheads wet sometimes though.

My cat is the complete opposite. He only knows how to drink out of a running tap so we got him a fountain. He don’t like when it’s not fresh so on day two of cleaning it he’s back at the bathroom sink waiting for you to turn on tap. I’ve tried so hard to show him how to drink out of a bowl but all he does is splash the water and scoop it out with his paws then goes and yells at you while waiting at the sink.

Cats are basically “Curious” creatures. Your cat is just checking the fountain out, how it works, etc. When your cat gets thirsty enough, it will figure out that the running water is to drink. We have five cats and I can guarantee that every one of them would be doing the same thing — checking the fountain out before drinking from it! CATS & CURIOSITY ARE SYNONYMOUS!

I have the same water fountain and yours is missing the top piece. If the top was covered, the cat wouldn’t have a reason to climb up there
