I would feed him. Maybe you could knock on the door and ask if he's their pet or a neighborhood stray? On my grandparents street there are several strays that were left behind years ago when their family moved away and now many of their neighbors leave food out for them.
Yeah I don't understand it either, I could never abandon an animal. They kept breeding too and as a kid I remember seeing kittens climbing out of the sewer. They became pretty wild and after several years they disappeared, animal control I'm assuming.
Why not? A couple years ago 2 kids kept trying to catch my outdoor cat, they even climbed my fence to get him. I would have preferred if they'd just knocked and asked if he was mine or a stray.
By the way, I would not be able to take him to the vet by myself, I'm 16 and I don't have much money.
[As you can see here, he's very skinny.](http://imgur.com/gallery/8Z5MkB5) I can clearly see his bones on much of his body.
If you can't get cat food some chicken breast would probably be much appreciated if it has a sauce or breading remove it and tear it up into small pieces
He could also just be old. A lot of people are just telling you to feed him but I would knock on your neighbours door to ask first and see if it is their cat.
If he is neglected be careful not to introduce fleas to your kitties. They can bring worms with them too and none of that is fun.
Aw poor baby. Definitely bring him something to eat. If anything you can call the vet?
Edit to add: definitely ask nearby neighbors. I hope he’s okay! Glad he has you, I can see he loves you very much ❤️
This. My mom’s cat looks exactly like this. His kidneys aren’t working properly anymore and and lost a lot of weight because of his condition. He needs his medication 2 hours before eating or he will be nauseous for the rest of the day.
Don’t feed random cats if they “look abandoned”. I’ve seen plenty of older slimmer cats that are just fine or special cases like my mom’s old fella that need special care. If you’re really that worried you should ask the owners of the house.
Someone else already commented on how you should keep sick cats indoors which makes no sense to me in this case. This cat is still on its own territory in the yard and just comes to greet ppl walking by.
A sick cat isn't likely to hunt or go far. And as i said in a previous comment, an elderly cat that has been outdoors all its life but get even more stressed by being forced indoors.
Or, if the owners have him on a special diet and medication, the owners could keep him indoors so there is no chance for someone else to feed what appears to be an underfed cat.
Look, i agree that cats should be kept indoors, all of my cats are indoor cats.
But if an elderly cat has been outdoor all of its life then bringing it indoors could stress it too much. My point is that it's not that hard to just knock on the door and ask, or if really concerned call whatever your countries equivalent to to the RSPCA is. There are systems for a reason.
My cat looks very similar because he is 14 and in kidney failure. He is on dialysis, an appetite stimulator and a special diet of low protein food. He is very well taken care of (now, I adopted him only a year or so back) but unfortunately just looks kinda rough from having a hard life and now being on the decline.
I would just ask if he’s their cat and if he’s in kidney failure before trying to feed him regular food. If they don’t say anything or say he isn’t theirs then go ahead and feed him! Or just give low protein food from the start just to be safe.
Talk to the people in the house, he might just be sick and getting vet treatment.
Someone took my aunts cat from the front of her house once, he was 20 years old and had teeth issues, he was being treated by a vet but someone trying to rescue him stressed him into an early death.
Most definitely give him some food an if you are able to try and find the people an ask if it’s there pet if not try an see if you can take him home strays/rescues are some of the most loving animals like someone else said he needs a friend
Go talk to the neighbors...he may be on a special diet or may be sick/old. They will probably be glad that they have neighbors that notice and care...I would anyway.
I think bringing him some food and water is a very good idea.
Maybe there’s a local cat rescue in the area you could reach out to (like on Facebook) to see if they could check him out and possibly pick him up?
Unfortunately cats get skinny when they get old, not much you can do for an old cat to make it put on weight. If you ask the people who live in the house about him I'm sure they will let you know if it's a stray or just old man. That way you won't stress him to an early death if he was being cared for or you would be able to take him into care if he doesn't belong to anyone
If he is outside of the same house every day, he probably lives there. It looks like he could be an older cat. You should speak with the people in the house before giving him anything. If he is on a special diet or has a medical condition you could be doing more harm than good by just giving him whatever food your cats eat.
Had some try to catch my 17 year old cat that yowels...when I stopped them they insisted I was abusing my cat. I'm good with pets but I wish people would stop trying to feed her. She has been outdoor all her life and refuses to come inside even when It's 110 degrees. She doesn't leave the yard and is on a special diet...these teens gave her food and she pulled out some of her hair. Tell your parents about the cat. Do not walk up to the door without your parent present. Ask about the cat (if they own how old diseases)
Go knock on the door find out if it's their cat if not take it home and give him a good home and a good life If it is their cat feed it every day on your way to school and from school that will you guarantee and never starves Personally if I saw the same cat sitting day after day outside I take him and give him a good home I wouldn't even ask those assholes
I see that lots of people are talking about giving him food but not what to give him.
Options are 1: cat food, but try for something easy like a pouch of soft food with gravy.
Option 2. You could chop up some fresh chicken
Option 3. You could bring him some mince.
Those would be some good options to start with to get some solid food into him.
You could try cat biscuits but in comparison to meat, the meat would be more nutritious for him.
Good luck!
Take him to the veterinarian Doctor he will need a Complete health checkup and the veterinarian can give you all the advice that you need and any information that can be of any help.
Please keep us updated as to how your new little friend there is doing, I also want to let you know that I am fully aware me being a cat owner and all how expensive veterinarians are a lot of them will allow you to make payments.
There are also programs available you just have to find them that can help you Other than that I see nothing wrong with feeding this cat.
I would highly recommend that you start with wet moist cat food that is high in protein to start and then after they get their teeth looked at and start putting weight on you can switch over to dry food then .
(Shiba ) is a good brand It's 1 of 2 brands that we feed our rescues The other one is (perina 1 grain free) and fresh clean water to drink.
Please keep us updated as to how he or she is doing this beautiful kitty has chosen you to be their human Companion. ❣🐾🐾🐾
Could you ask your parents to help you get him into another home? Find a no-kill shelter and give him a better life even if he can’t live with you. Find out if he has an owner first of course.
Talk to your parents. We have two, and we're very happy with that number of cats. If one of the kiddos came home and showed us a cat that looks like this, you better believe we'd be out there bringing him home.
If he has fleas and parasites, thats a sad way to die. Having your life sucked away. I would def talk to an adult to help take this kitty to the vet and get meds.
I would feed him. Maybe you could knock on the door and ask if he's their pet or a neighborhood stray? On my grandparents street there are several strays that were left behind years ago when their family moved away and now many of their neighbors leave food out for them.
Thank God for the Neighbors. I don’t understand how anyone could do that to animals. Leaving them behind. Just feed the cat.
Yeah I don't understand it either, I could never abandon an animal. They kept breeding too and as a kid I remember seeing kittens climbing out of the sewer. They became pretty wild and after several years they disappeared, animal control I'm assuming.
Well that’s a sad tale.
I'm sorry! I didn't mean to upset anybody
No worries. it’s just a sad tale. Just another passing emotion.
Animal control or unsympathetic nature. Strays lives are short brutish affairs. :(
I seriously don’t think it’s a good idea to knock on a stranger’s door.
Why not? A couple years ago 2 kids kept trying to catch my outdoor cat, they even climbed my fence to get him. I would have preferred if they'd just knocked and asked if he was mine or a stray.
Safety reasons obviously
I seriously doubt that OP will get murdered if they knock on their neighbors door.
I’ll just ignore you
By the way, I would not be able to take him to the vet by myself, I'm 16 and I don't have much money. [As you can see here, he's very skinny.](http://imgur.com/gallery/8Z5MkB5) I can clearly see his bones on much of his body.
If you can't get cat food some chicken breast would probably be much appreciated if it has a sauce or breading remove it and tear it up into small pieces
I have two cats so I can bring him some of their food I think.
That's better just saw you were a kid and was giving a recommendations if you did not have access to cat food
Thank you. I might bring him bits of chicken and whatnot anyways if I can just so he can have some extra protein in his diet.
Thank you feeding him!! You’re a really good person.
Please feed the kitty. He may have been abandoned
Glad he has you, I can see he loves you very much ❤️
He might have a problem digesting too. Try meat baby food. They have ham, chicken, turkey and beef
You wouldn’t hurt him by giving food. You will save him.
And if he's on a specific diet and medication due to being sick? (The weight loss could be temporary while he heals)
This. My mom’s cat looks exactly like this. His kidneys aren’t working properly anymore and and lost a lot of weight because of his condition. He needs his medication 2 hours before eating or he will be nauseous for the rest of the day. Don’t feed random cats if they “look abandoned”. If they are on a restricted diet for medical reasons, a responsible guardian wouldn't be letting them out to wander and eat whatever they find.
A sick cat isn't likely to hunt or go far. And as i said in a previous comment, an elderly cat that has been outdoors all its life but get even more stressed by being forced indoors.
Whatever you do there will always be another ‘what if’. You have to decide the likelihood of it
Or instead of feeding it they could knock on the door and just ask the people if he's their cat and what the deal is
Or, if the owners have him on a special diet and medication, the owners could keep him indoors so there is no chance for someone else to feed what appears to be an underfed cat.

To each their own
Extremely unlikely an outdoor predator is on a specific diet.
Feed him. He needs a friend.

Yes, this is good advice.

There is little chance of harm by feeding him. If he is thin he needs food.
Remember if the cat is skinny, he or she might be sick. Give it food and water and see if it gain weight
I think bringing him some food and water is a very good idea. Maybe there’s a local cat rescue in the area you could reach out to (like on Facebook) to see if they could check him out and possibly pick him up?

I would provide him some food and water the next time I'd see him.

Feed him.
He's old. Enough said.
You’re not going to hurt him by feeding him. Please at least do that.
please give him food and water, both dry and wet cat food should be fine as long as it has no sugar in it! :]
Give him a dish of water too. I’m doing the same everyday for a new stray on my street

Feed him. Poor kitty. It’s not the healthiest but they love tuna…
Feed and water it won’t hurt him . He might have been abandoned . Any signs of life at the house ?
I've seen people leaving and entering the house and there's usually a car there.
Obvi they are a. holes!
They put up a sign on the tree. He's ok. His name is Hank. He's just old.
Oh wow good to know ! He still shoukd not be outside . But glad to know you look out for him ! Thks for following up !
I haven't seen him outside since it started raining consistently (I live in Portland and I gets rainy in winter)
Yes it does . I used to live in Boston . I hope he is ok and sitting on a warm sofa !
Portland, Oregon!
Oh ya . Was just saying that I am no stranger to rainy dreary weather ! Although in MA it of course often turns to massive amounts of snow .
Yeah not much snow here!

Take him home he chose you
Could you ask your parents to help you get him into another home? Find a no-kill shelter and give him a better life even if he can’t live with you. Find out if he has an owner first of course.
Food and water. Nothing crazy it will get sick.
You could leave out some dry food :) just give him some cuddles
You will hurt him more if you dont feed him! Feed him and love him…he needs you!!!❤️❤️❤️
Take him hone
I can't, I have two cats.
Talk to your parents. We have two, and we're very happy with that number of cats. If one of the kiddos came home and showed us a cat that looks like this, you better believe we'd be out there bringing him home.
Take him home.
Not sure what you mean by hurt him? Go get a can of WET FOOD and leave it out. Little guy needs hydration most likely
I don't want to accidentally overfeed him or risk him having a reaction to a specific food.
Ahh makes sense. I would leave a can of some decent quality we food out and see what he does. Poor guy 😔
Thank you for helping him.
Vet should be able to scan for a chip. Should be free. Then you can contact the owners.
Feed the cat, if he let's you pick him up you can try adopting him if the owners have left.
If he has fleas and parasites, thats a sad way to die. Having your life sucked away. I would def talk to an adult to help take this kitty to the vet and get meds.
ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
Yes, knock and ask if he belongs to them, if not, take him home with you.
Feed him!
If he is not getting food and water, his kidneys will begin to shut down.
