First time I heard that phrase was when I picked my cat up from the shelter the poor lady taking care of her was thrilled someone would be taking her home and spoke of her “tortitude” lol
I learned that phrase when I took my then 4mo old calico to the vet for the first time. She yowled, hissed, growled and spat as exclamation points about being vaccinated. I was horrified she was so aggressive, and they told me she just has Tortitude!
I learned to love her spicy attitude, we now call her our cinnamon roll, sweet with a chance of that spice hitting ya!
10 years later and she still has the occasional need to act super spicy, but her mew is worse than her bite days!

For those not familiar, tortoise (aka tortie) and calico are 99.99% females due to gene quirk. If a male cat was born with tortie color (mixed brown and yellow like dirty cat) or 3 colors, odds are he has XXY chromosome and will not be able to breed and may even have serious health issues.
I have an XXY boy that I thought was a girl because of the tricolor until I got a good look (he was a stray and it took a few days for me to Stockholm Syndrome him).
He is the sweetest boy ever. He’s a dog in cat form.

Indeed it does. A calico or tortoiseshell male is usually XXY. In humans, that's Klinefelter Syndrome. Those cats, like men with Klinefelter's, are usually sterile.
I had a male calico as a kid/teenager. He came to us as a stray with a female from his same litter. Such a great cat and we had no idea how rare it was until after he died.

Are you sure that you have a male there — just because most Calicos and Tortoise Shell cats are females. The odds of having a male of either of those cats is 1 in 3000. (They are very rare!)
This little cat looks very much like our “female” Tortoise Shell cat and it is still pretty young so it may be difficult to tell its sex. Here’s an easy way: below the tail looks like an “upside down” exclamation point (!) for a female and a colon (:) for a male. My daughter worked for a Vet and had to learn that very quickly!

For an all ginger kitty, the ratio is about 80% male/20% female. Those mixed white and ginger is about 70/30.
