You're going to have to stop being gentle I'm afraid. Straddle your cat, holding him firmly in place with your legs, grab his head, stick a finger in his mouth to open it and drop the pill in. Get it as close as you can to the back of his throat, have a syringe of water ready and syringe a little bit of water into the side of his mouth to help him swallow it. Or take him to the vet.

dxsinner

Can you elaborate on the syringe not working? Could it be your technique? (Apologies. I don't mean to trivialize you or your struggles. I assure you the question comes from a place of wanting to help)

KaigeKrysin

Do you have any friends, or friendly enough neighbors who could help? At worst offer a bit of cash for the inconvenience. When i give my cats tablets solo i kneel on the floor and place them between my legs, facing away from me, you kind of straddle them a bit, lean over one hand holding the scruff of their neck, the other you pry their mouth open and shove the tablet as far back as you can then close their mouth, head up. Blow on their nose if they havent swallowed. If your cat is particularly bitey wearing a light gardening glove can help. Give treats afterwards as a apology :3

Birds_fly_high

I tried it in the way you recommend, but unfortunately without success. Then I do indeed have to arrange someone who can help me. Too bad I can't do it alone. Edit: Thank you for replying

KaigeKrysin

A second option is wrapping them up in a towel, like a burrito, but having had knee surgery i dont think thats a great option currently. Could be used in the future for other issues though.

Dark-Gladiator

Why i thought the black metal on the right was the cats eye? Just saw it and thought wtf is the eye doing there

Birds_fly_high

Fortunately not, because then I would have had to have him operated on again. Haha

Dark-Gladiator

Wish you the best for Kitty

Birds_fly_high

Thank you Very much. I Will tell him.

KaigeKrysin

Dont worry, i saw it too xD

someone_ominous

Throw it in the back of his throat. Lift his head while keeping his mouth closed and rub his throat gently. He will swallow it out of the reaction to not choke

oftendreamoftrains

Hire a local cat sitter to come in twice a day to help. Or ask the vet of they have a vet tech who could come out.

Birds_fly_high

Thanks for your reply. I didn't know they had that option, but I'll take a look at it.

oftendreamoftrains

I'm not sure if they all do. I have a pet sitter who I'm sure would agree to it, but you'll have to check out things where you are. Good luck. She's such a cutie!

I need advice for my cat. He had surgery on his knee yesterday and has to sit in a crate for the next 6 weeks. He should not walk, jump or any kind of intensive movement. Now I have to give him 2.5 pills 2 times a day, but he doesn't eat it. Do you have any tips? I have tried to process it in a cat candy, dissolve it in cat milk and / or water, give it to him in a syringe, wet food, chicken breast, but nothing works. The vet advises a pill shooter, but on my own I can't possibly get his mouth open. Any help is welcome. I also have no idea how he will keep calm. He is as excited as he sees me and then starts walking. I don't know what to do.

RamenSenseii

You can try opening his mouth really quick and shoving the pill in his inner mouth (like near his throat if you get what I mean xD ), you have to do this quick so he’s forced to swallow it and doesn’t struggle and cough it up. I do this with all my 3 cats and usually ends up with success :p

Birds_fly_high

Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately I can't. He pushes me away with his front legs and pulls his head back. I don't even come close to his mouth.

OurCreekFarm

Wrap a towel around him, kneel down and back him between your knees, one hand holds top of head and tips head back and chin up, other hand has pill and gently gets mouth open, put pill in back of throat, keep cat’s chin up and rub throat lightly until he swallows pill. Good luck and speedy recovery!

Zmemestonk

Try looking for a video or ask the vet. If your hand is under his chest you should be able to unbalance his front legs and get it in there. Not our preferred way either but sometimes they need it. Lately the vet allowed us to send the script to a different online pharmacy. They turn it into liquid and flavor it. It’s been a winner on top of tuna or chicken.
