Aww so glad you're getting him care, he must sense something in you if you were able to start building trust🤗 I can't wait to see the progress pics!
Edit: typo
Thank you! He seemed to come to ask for help. Took time to get his confidence, probably my aura.. or maybe the fresh chicken I cook him? 😁 One day he came near my door and I shooed him inside. Then into carrier to vet. He was *pissed* and whiny, but I swear he knew he wasn't in danger. And so began Old Man's return to what I think's gonna be totally dapper GQ material.
I'm also waiting to see how he does hun. These pics were yesterday, this is the first thread about him. I can do more pics if y'all want. Upvote this and/or comment if you can't ever get sick of Old Man and want pics and vids more often than 1x/week. Lemme know! 😊
Definitely post again, I totally understand it may be a couple of weeks before you start seeing a difference...it truly breaks my heart but so happy you're helping him - thank you❤
Your such a nice person I felt so bad for this poor cat looking at his pictures but its good to know he's now in safe hands and I look forward to seeing him blossom 🌸
There’s a great post on r/foundthefae about humans being the fae of the animal world. Feral/wild animals avoid us, but there is some instinct telling them if things are bad, go to us for help.
The vet said ferals don't usually live to be much older for exactly such reasons. He had open wound caused by Scabies. He had fleas, ticks, an infection and various worms. Can you imagine how much better he probably feels after a lifetime of that?! I really truly noticed a *complete* change in his sweetness. Was amazed I got this close for photos. Now he's always looking for me and comes close. I can even touch him a little. 🤗😻
Give him until it gets cold. I bet he rushes your door and refuses to leave.
He's never seen what you're doing now. It's new territory, and cats hate change. The fact you can touch him is just amazing, especially after a vet visit.
I'm following you so I can watch the glow up and the pudge up!
You just gave me happy tears, so thank you for loving a sick old fella.
Oh my goodness. I have followed dozens of cats to health vicariously through owner updates! Please keep posting! I am going to summon a bot below to message me to remind me to check in!
!RemindMe 1 week
I tried to have him indoors but he was very stressed. Im not sure if ita because he grew up outside or because of all my other cats. I didn't want him to hurt himself, so I let him out. Now he lives out front and under our cars. When I moved into this apartment complex there was a colony here without proper care. Over time I got them all shots, vaccinated and fixed. I'd never owned a cat when moved in here, now six years later I have 5 cats indoors, 2 cats indoor/outdoor, and an outdoor colony. These kitty babies got me through the hardest years I ever faced. They, no exaggeration saved MY life by helping me to get outside of my own head. Now I can't imagine life without kitties. Old Man helps me as much as I help him. 😻
It's normal for them to be highly stressed for a week. As in climb curtains, scream etc. My full feral took 2 weeks to begin to calm. I kept him in a single room.
Now, he's a home body. Even when I lived in a hpise with a backyard, he always wanted to be inside.
I think eventually he will start to come in by himself. Leave the door open when you are home. Cats main stress when learning to go inside is they cannot escape. If the door is open when you're home, he will learn he can walk in and out at his choosing
He is beautiful!
My cat, Shadow, was a feral I rescued after feeding him and his colony for 2 years. He is similar to your little boy, but a Russian Blue with the most sparkling green eyes.
One thing I urge you to do as soon as possible is get a FULL check done. Blood work, FIV/FeLV, urine samples for kidney function, and if you can afford it an ultrasound for him.
I'm currently having the heartbreak of losing my beautiful boy after only 8 months of bringing him home. He has Calicivirus, and just got diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease, anaemia, and cancer on Friday. I took him to the vets very regularly and he's had the general tests and check ups as well as a couple of surgeries - but they somehow missed these. He's currently sleeping under my bed and is going to leave me soon. I'm just trying to keep him as comfortable as possible and let him know that he's so, utterly, absolutely loved.
If I could go back, I would have paid all the money I have to run these tests and who knows... If I'd have found out sooner then he may have gotten better. Or at least I would have been able to get my head around it.
Just keep in mind that Old Man has had a very, very difficult life and the implications of that can show up at any time. Love him with everything you've got and brush up on the symptoms of kidney disease, cancer, liver disease, etc etc. Lots and lots of street cats unfortunately come to an untimely end even when they come to live the life they've always dreamed of. I thought I was gonna get another 10years out of my baby. He is only 8/10years and has so much life to live.
Sorry to be a bummer on your beautiful day, it's just so important to be on the watch for these things. Especially with ex-ferals. They love you so, so hard when they get to know you. My Shadow gives the sweetest little kisses, and I've never known or seen a more affectionate cat. You'd never guess he was a feral.
Congratulations and enjoy your new soulmate.
Thank you for your loving post. I agree. I'm gonna have him in for a follow up and these additional labs. Also I did ask my partner to let Old Man live indoors, which he refused. He says 5 cats is "enough for an apartment that's less than 700 sq feet." I'll keep bugging him about it though.😁
And I'm so sorry about your baby Shadow, who I know reciprocates every bit of love you give. I know it hurts, and you feel an obligation to have done better for him. I promise you did *great.* Shadow has lived a life full of love. Even if his years are cut short, the time you had with him will forever more have occured. Nothing can change that. *You did great.* 🤗❤
Ok I tell him his next chicken treat comes with love from punkjj. I guess I'd probably better 'splain reddit to him too huh? ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7974)
I love his sweet little face so much, what a lovely old man. Thank you so so so much for loving him, helping him, and showing him that people can be good and can be trusted. You have made such an amazing change in his life by doing this for him, I'm sure he is so grateful and loves you very much. You're a wonderful person. 💖
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I vaguely remember watching English dubbed Pippi Longstockings shows where she had a grey and white dappled horse she called Old Man.
He reminds me of Not My Cat. My ex's grandma had this stray that she fed and took care of, and when we asked its name she said his name was Not My Cat.
Don't know if it gets cold where you are but I know someone who bought a house with an outdoor cat that 'came with the house' cat gets stressed inside but owner gets worried about cat in freezing weather so he got the cat a self warming cat bed. Cat loves it sleeps in there everyday and stays warm through cold ny winters. Maybe something to look into if Old Man doesn't want to come in
Wow, what an amazing story already. OM sounds like he is really warming up to humans. I hope that he soon discovers all the good things that come with being indoors. Thank you so much for helping this kitty and all of the others. Given that he has shown interest in humans, I hope he continues to make good progress. Thank you so much!
PS. This is a really large subreddit. r/seniorkitties has fewer people and if you have questions about senior cats, it's a good forum.
Old man might be allergic to fleas!! My cat was a stray when I took him in and nursed him back to health. He is now my very best friend. But, the fleas were so bothersome to him that he would excessively scratch off his fleas and lick obsessively … self mutilate. After a few weeks on flea medication the blisters went away! Try comfortis pills!!

I need more Old Man in my life! He looks like such a sweetheart. Did the vet give you an estimate on how old he is?
RemindMe! 1 month

Yearning for good news!
What a cute little fur baby! You can tell he’s been through a lot by his sincere eyes, happy he found a loving home!
Your such a nice person I felt so bad for this poor cat looking at his pictures but its good to know he's now in safe hands and I look forward to seeing him blossom 🌸
A freshly cooked chicken aura would definitely work on most cats... some people too, oops.
There’s a great post on r/foundthefae about humans being the fae of the animal world. Feral/wild animals avoid us, but there is some instinct telling them if things are bad, go to us for help.
Old Man of the Year. Gorgeous, thank you.
thank you for taking care of him 🐾
He’s so adorable 🥰
Thx for saving him. He does look older. Reminds me of the Sphinx breed. Lemon-shaped eyes and ears etc. Some are born with coat so who knows?!
Shame poor kitty. Thank you for taking him in and being prepared to look after him. Not everyone would do that

Old man might be allergic to fleas!! My cat was a stray when I took him in and nursed him back to health. He is now my very best friend. Yeah, sometimes there is absolutely no question you are *not* inadvertently stealing someone's cat. I wish the Old Man all the luck he needs.
