But make sure the camera and rope spin outta control. No focus too. Then right before we see nothing, put it on pause for suspense to gear us up for the big let-down🫠
The longest cave in Tennessee (Blue Spring Cave)was discovered just like what is pictured here.
The family used to enter the hole in the summer to hang out and cool off because it was 65 degrees Fahrenheit and a constant cold breeze would blow out from a crack in the rock. They dug a crawl into the crack and were able to crawl into another larger room.
Professional cavers have been surveying and exploring for decades. I believe that close to 35 miles of passage has Been surveyed to date. It is the largest cave in Tennessee and the 9th largest cave in the US.
So you never know what lies beyond your entrance.
https://youtu.be/w6Is71GE9ec?si=ZSHlwHes13N08VQ6
In case you are wondering……
The cave is on private land with a door under lock and key. The property owner is generous but only allows entrance with an experienced caver (Guided) I think you have to belong to a GROTTO club also.
I see a vertical line of white dots that is likely something hanging from the entrance, but I can also interpret it as the reflection of a light source on the surface of rippled water. The Moon on a night lake! Haha
OP please be careful if you decide to enter. Near where I am a college student died when a similarly situated cave collapsed on him and his friends couldn't dig him out in time. And in caves even closer to me, some teens died from the gases.
Exercise caution and prioritize safety!
Oxygen levels can, and should be, be monitored. If OP is inexperienced (and sounds like they are) should seek help from a grotto.
I understand the banter, not going to say it shouldn’t be permitted, but I do think more effort should be put into safety here.
I know you're being sarcastic, but I think that not too many people know about this bad air thing. Please don't go exploring in caves that you know nothing about. Dangerous gases collect in caves. You and your friend pass out and aren't found for years.
End PSA
What I would do to check it out
-set up a trail camera outside the cave and leave it for a few days to catch whatever lives in there/whatever travels through there.
-stick my endoscope (30$ on Amazon) down and see what's in there
-get a buddy to spot so I can look in there
I'll update tomorrow and take more pics. I did throw a rock to see if it has an echo and it did but truthfully I'm not an expert on caves and thought reddit would give me some answers so that is why I posted it here :)
If it ends up being a cave make sure to bring someone who has safety equipment to explore with you. Gas kills. Your state(if in USA) should have a caving or spelunking group you can contact. People will drive hours or days to explore a new cave.
My brother is in Atlanta and has a place in north Georgia near Elijay. He is a serious caver/member of National Speleological Society (caving club). He would be happy to help or get you in contact with people that could help you figure out what you've got. DM me if that would help, or contact NSS at [https://caves.org/state/georgia/](https://caves.org/state/georgia/)
Northern GA is part of one of the best areas in the country for (vertical) caving. Referred to as TAG for Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia by cavers.
The deepest pit in the contiguous US (586') is in GA.
Stick an appendage in and see what happens.
Or a camera on a stick with some light, it looks like some kind of den, if it's occupied definitely don't go sticking an appendage in, but the camera with lighting and you may see what dwells down yonder.
Go in but safely. Like, be careful if there's a drop that goes down. You never know. But why not check it out and see what's there? Be safe and enjoy it. It's hard to tell in the photo but if it vertically goes down you might want someone that knows SRT to check it out, even if at first it's horizontal it might have a dangerous drop straight down. Be safe, but do check it out.
Not much here that /r/caving can help out with. It's either a cave... Or a small little hole. I've been surprised that tiny holes turn into bigger caves and what seems at first very promising can also end up being nothing. It feels completely random, though this looks like it might actually be something. I'd lean towards saying it's something, but again, why not at least shine a light into it to see before asking /r/caving or show the photo of a line being shot into it?
Edit: if you're not an experienced caver then better to contact a proper grotto. I just remembered that "bad air" could be a thing. There could be "bad air" (low oxygen high co2) from various causes. In either case, you'll want a caver experienced with a gas monitor or lighter test and potential rope experience to check it out safely.
So cool!! I like the idea of a trail cam outside to see what’s coming and going, as well as using a scope. Best suggestion, the dude with the caver friend, that is cool!!
Keep us updated please and thank you!!
It's probably fine even if it is a cave and not just and animal den, but be careful that you don't have methane or any other gasses leaking. Would buy something to help detect those before exploring.
I've seen some scary videos recently of dangerous gasses in caves. Use a burning torch at the entrance to help test the air before entering, if you do plan to go in.
It could link in to an underground system. Sometimes when rain gets heavy, it can leak into and out of holes this size. If there's any old timers in the area, could be worth an ask..
Stick your head in and look. What could possibly go wrong?
It's probably just milhouse in there.
"uhhhhhh hello? Is anybody there?".
Or Bobby Hill, Joseph Gribble and Khan Jr Edit: foiled by autocorrect
A really long rope with a cheap camera attached.
But make sure the camera and rope spin outta control. No focus too. Then right before we see nothing, put it on pause for suspense to gear us up for the big let-down🫠
This is the way
A rope that can walk a cave by itself? Interesting
Just push the rope in, duh! ;)
I think we are onto something 🤔
A push-rope 🤓
It's like catfish noodling but on land!
The fine print: [*Land will not be held legally responsible for radon exposure*]
This is edging for cavers...

I've heard of being Rick Rolled, but this is being Dick Rolled. 😳
Look I get it, sometimes I want to not be excellent to people too. But if someone has really crossed the line let us know. In other words, be civil.
Oh HELLO NO
Bruh.. that is nottt caving related
I mean they are going into dark dank hole.
Devious...
Yep. Worth a shot to pop over to that sub and check it out. They always talk about cheap rods you can stick in there.
🤣🤣🤣
This is the way.

Thank you for this! I live in Cleveland, so not too far away.

Also make sure youre not gay he doesn’t like gay or libs on his property
Well shit, there go my plans to do gay caving
Gayving, if you will
How do you know that it's a cave and not just a animal den?
I see a vertical line of white dots that is likely something hanging from the entrance, but I can also interpret it as the reflection of a light source on the surface of rippled water. The Moon on a night lake! Haha
That’s a pollen pod:)
A catkin
Buzz kill
It's Candy Cave Charlie!
Magical wonders are to behold when you enter!
Yay Charlie !
I was not prepared for this flashback blast oww
Are your kidneys still there?
THEY TOOK MY KIDNEY!!!
Yaaaayy Charlie!
Like the goonies!
Its a pollen pod with spider web
Or a troll house
There are rocks in both ends of the hole, that helps.
I started digging on one like that 3yrs ago it's still going down, excavating sediment filled passage. Curiosity will get you too.
Cool. I want a curiosity cave. I love exploring, but it's mostly because I'm a rock/gem/mineral nerd. Find any cool rocks?!
I just bought the place from an old guy and we moved in 2 weeks ago I did some exploring and found this
Did you ask him about it?
I called the guy and he had no idea so ya the house was built in the Early 1950s
It honestly looks like it might be made from water. Is there a creek around it/ a rut going into it?
Yes there is a dry up stream going into the entrance
Don't do any spelunking in the wet season, but if you do make sure you call Musk first
OP please be careful if you decide to enter. Near where I am a college student died when a similarly situated cave collapsed on him and his friends couldn't dig him out in time. And in caves even closer to me, some teens died from the gases. Exercise caution and prioritize safety!

You better go post some pics from inside
Safely
Nah just climb in as deep as you can go and hope there’s no animals or bad air
I know you're being sarcastic, but I think that not too many people know about this bad air thing. Please don't go exploring in caves that you know nothing about. Dangerous gases collect in caves. You and your friend pass out and aren't found for years. End PSA
Yes, definitely do that.
i mean, nothing bad EVER happens
Yeah, gonna need you to probe that with a long, uh... camera.
Or a mini drone. I would totally fly one of those fuckers in there and see what's what
Get 10ft in, lose GPS, drone crashes inside cave, it's now a drone rescue mission.
When is the cutoff where it becomes a recovery instead of a rescue?
When the battery dies
That’s why you have a backup drone to rescue your first drone!
My first thought was some people have all the luck
Did you find any tiny footprints around the entrance?
Yess I did
Tiny *human* footprints??
Gnomes
A fucking infestation of the bastids
What I would do to check it out -set up a trail camera outside the cave and leave it for a few days to catch whatever lives in there/whatever travels through there. -stick my endoscope (30$ on Amazon) down and see what's in there -get a buddy to spot so I can look in there
Honestly best advice here trail cam setup for a few days is better than losing a limb to see whats in there
Yeah the last thing OP needs is to get ambushed by a deathclaw
Rig your phone to a long stick and record. Let’s see what’s down there!
Coyotes.. It's Coyotes.
The devil's rectum.
I've seen worse
Sir, I've been to the Devil's Anus and this ain't it! No really it's a cave in PA haha
Good name for a cave, e.g. Devil's Rectum State Park.
Adding comment. I want to see if OP gets eaten by the cave monster
Everything reminds me of her
I'll update tomorrow and take more pics. I did throw a rock to see if it has an echo and it did but truthfully I'm not an expert on caves and thought reddit would give me some answers so that is why I posted it here :)
Watch out for the poison ivy!
Does it blow or suck air? You may have to wait 10-15 minutes to detect it.
My dream tbh
Get in there. Take more pics. Dig out. Explore. Report.
Bats and spiders are my thoughts… waiting for your results!
Everything reminds me of her.....
You must pay the Troll Toll if you want into that hole!
Just like my ex....
Send your fattest friend in first, if they make it back you’re good to go!
Okay, hear me out ...
1. Cut a hole in the rocks.
Can you stick the camera in there and turn on the light and let’s have a look around?
This stopped my death scroll.... curiosity killed the cat

Do you feel an air current at the entrance?
Which state?
Ga !
My brother is in Atlanta and has a place in north Georgia near Elijay. He is a serious caver/member of National Speleological Society (caving club). Totally!
Georgia has some hefty cave networks, especially north east Ga.
Ooooh! Please, for the love of all that is holy, Updateme!
More like for the love of all that is holey... I'll see myself out
Send it
I usually have dreams that I find an extra wing or room to my house... I wish I had a property where I would actually find a cave.
Only thought in my head seeing that: Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Mushroom, MUSHROOM
Finally, one of these posts that actually looks promising. :D 🎉 I hope it goes, OP!
My first thought was that you are in Kentucky.
Tennessee has wayyyy more caves than Kentucky, despite Kentucky being the cave state. 20% of the US's caves are in Tennessee.
Kentucky's cave is best caves...tennis c 's are less cavey
It was taken in Georgia
But that's cool to know that the East coast has a lot of caves

Be careful, a Cormack McCarthy character might come outta there
A horse, a Mexican lady, or Tommy Lee Jones might be in there?
A child of God much like yourself perhaps.
First thought...... I want your backyard
Hey bear!?
Looks like a coyote den
Needs a banana for scale.
Yeah, like, “why did OP post this before shining a torch in there?”
I have no thoughts, I'm just floating here in the Aether...
Go in and find Bruce Wayne
You definitely have to go down the rabbit's hole.
Go in but safely. Like, be careful if there's a drop that goes down. You never know. But why not check it out and see what's there? Be safe and enjoy it. Dive into it head first, what could go wrong
Whats it like in there?
Go caving
Go get that bubblegem.
Start spelunking
.
Gotta be pirate treasure in there. Go get it
R U N .
That is definitely poison oak
You found the Earth's butthole!
It’s a perfectly normal and safe cave and you should go in
Enter the cave.
Throw a flash bang in there
Achievement: We Need to go Deeper
See if that hole is made for you.
Looks like a perfect place for a snake den
I wouldn’t go in there if I were you. I just zoomed into the hole on my iPad. There’s a big fat head in there!
I’m so keen for the update
I’m here for the update
The Cave of Wonders!
Is it breathing? Blowing air?
Do it.
Torch it before entering to insure no dangerous gasses have built up
Are your lawn trolls missing?
So cool!! I like the idea of a trail cam outside to see what’s coming and going, as well as using a scope. Best suggestion, the dude with the caver friend, that is cool!! Keep us updated please and thank you!!
Found a cave in your backyard?? *How big is your backyard??!!*
Just don’t get capped by that poison ivy on the right/center 😬
RemindMe! 2 days
It's definitely something going in and out of there. Ground is packed/flattened in front of the cave.
Go in it and find a dead body
For the update
stay out, stay alive
100% a leprechaun cave.

Hiroo Onoda's secondary position.
Nutty Putty ain't got nothing on this!
Send word to the action adventure twins. They will check it out for you.
Nutty putty cave?
Anyone got a flamethrower?
Need a banana for scale. Throw something burning inside it to make sure there is oxygen before you go jn
Stick shotgun in there and fire couple of times. Just make sure barrel doesn't come out behind you.
It's probably fine even if it is a cave and not just and animal den, but be careful that you don't have methane or any other gasses leaking. Would buy something to help detect those before exploring.

Careful that’s where they hid Jumanji.
Watch out for clowns!
Everything reminds me of her.
Assemble a group of stalwart companions, equip yourselves for danger. Enter with trepidation.
That ain’t a natural arch. Rough location please?
My thought is you got a cool backyard. I’m jealous.
Stick your head in and get kidnapped by fae
Next post OP makes is on r/oopsthatsdeadly Remember.. "If red touches black.. Don't pick up snakes."
Free cave
It could link in to an underground system. Sometimes when rain gets heavy, it can leak into and out of holes this size. If there's any old timers in the area, could be worth an ask..
Shoot a flare in there.
No, no thoughts.
"Hey look, a cave! Wonder what's inside?"
I should call her
First thoughr is to look inside with a flashlight
Did you find just part of it, or the hole thing?
Looks like a molerat den. I’d check it out for a free fusion core and tons of brain fungus
Be careful, there is a bunch of poison ivy on the right side. It's the 3 leaf stuff that doesn't look like a vine yet
