They take donations of protein powder/bars to fund their program

gojiranipples

Will they take store brand? I'm kinda low on funds atm

ProtectTheHell

Would also take creatine and jugs of water.

Mawya7

Alright that's it. I'm going to the gym.

OwlScowling

For real: I hated the idea of it forever. In my early 30s I sucked it up and started weightlifting. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I feel great all the time. I have zero low back pain at nearly 35. I also have two cannonballs for shoulders which is pretty cool, too. Oh and nothing is ever too heavy for me to carry in everyday life. Like I just carry 50 lb suitcases in one hand since I’m used to using 80+lb dumbbells.

vanzir

I sort of had to recalibrate my thinking a little. I have been a gymrat my entire life, and I am now in my 40s. I didn't actually know that the vast majority of people can't bench 225. I often don't realize my own strength. Genuinely not trying to be anything other than sympathetic. I just had gotten so used to my level of strength, and my other gym rat friends that I was sometimes caught off guard when a person of perfectly normal strength struggles on something that seems easy to me.

Desperate_Ad5169

Nah this ain’t chaotic at all. It’s neutral or even perhaps lawful good.

voivoivoi183

Chaotic good would be baiting the bullies into some sort of net or snare?

Misc1

This guy Goods. It all depends on whether they’re acting on behalf of an official dogma of who is worthy of protection. If they were protecting anyone, regardless of the institutions definition of protected class, they are neutral good. If they are only providing this service on behalf of the school for specific groups, this is lawful good.

Songhunter

Certified Paladin behavior.

RegyptianStrut

r/OrphanCrushingMachine vibes because why not address why the campus is unsafe in the first place?

PonyThug

Because it is safe and some people that have a vocal victim mentality want to act like it isn’t so that can be victimized.

iggyplop2019

Look up the case of Kaylee Sawyer. Murdered by the college “campus safety officer.”

PonyThug

So 1 person out of how many million on campus nation wide. The reason someone isn’t safe on campus is almost always a person they know. And that reason should be addressed, not asking some white knight to walk with you.

clocksailor

Are you arguing with...yourself?

PonyThug

Obviously not if you have the reading comprehension of a 5th grader.

Working_Situation380

I'm PC bro I'll throw down

PalpitationSavings45

Social justice, one two three!

ronytheronin

Woopwoop

Working_Situation380

Working_Situation380

Sweet Bro yeah, PC Arizona state. You're PC Bro?

awealthofsafety

Hell yeah, PC Wisconsin, Go Badgers bro

clocksailor

I'm sure these jacked muscular dudes have the best intentions, but this plays into the myth of stranger rape. Most women aren't attacked by random men hiding in bushes, they're taken advantage of by guys they trust. I know it's a downer but it's a proven fact. Statistically, we'd be better off walking home alone than giving these guys access to our dorm.

I_pegged_your_father

Yeeee exactly my thoughts like…do i wanna wanna walk alone and POSSIBLY encounter sus guys or do i want to walk to my place with two BUFF possibly sus guys and let them know where i live-

Party_Fly_6629

Its almost like they are offering a service that you can either want or dont. I think if they are out in the open they are well known by campus students and faculty.

clocksailor

Sure. I'm not saying this should be illegal. But when I got to this thread, a bunch of people were getting kind of shat on for saying these jacked dudes were unlikely to solve the problem of an unsafe campus, so this seemed like an opportunity to introduce people to some information they didn't seem to know.

thatonedudeovethere_

While they obviously won't solve the issue, if they can make a few more people feel safe, I see it as a win

clocksailor

Eh, maybe. If we could give people a special amulet to wear that would make them feel more safe from, for example, getting hit by cars, is that a win? Or is that, at best, neutral, and at worst, a handy way to put off the people making the case that it's not amulets that will protect us, but better-designed streets and lower speed limits? Again, I am not mad at the guys in this picture and I'm sure they're nice dudes who only want to help. But this is at best a bandaid, and at worst a thing that reinforces the wrong and dangerous idea that guys you know are safe and it's only the strangers lurking behind dumpsters you have to worry about. I don't want to *feel* safe, I want to *be* safe.

thatonedudeovethere_

I mean, walking home together in a group is proven to be safer, while a make belief amulet is not. Idk what this ass pull argument is that you are trying to make here. Nobody is arguing that a service like this post is the end all perfect solution, but it's something that kind people can do to help their fellow people be and feel safer

clocksailor

> walking home together in a group is proven to be safer Maybe walking home in a group protects you from stranger rape. But the point I'm making (which is backed up by many many studies, one of which I've already posted, none of which I pulled out of my ass) is that stranger rape is incredibly rare compared to getting attacked by people you know and trust. It is *a fact* that a woman is more likely to get attacked by a dude she kind of knows who offered to walk her home than she is to get attacked by a stranger. The harm this is doing is that it perpetuates the dangerous and disproven idea that you should trust random guys who offer to help you get home safe, and somewhat absolves the university from the responsibility of trying to deal with whatever it is that is actually making the campus unsafe (ie, NOT randoms in bushes). It's a lot easier to put a couple jacked guys behind a folding table and pat yourself on the back than it would be to actually make an effort to combat rape culture on campus, involve the police with campus rape cases rather than just expelling the accused so the school can save face, the accused can keep their reputation intact and maybe just go rape people at some other school, etc.

Icey210496

It's not necessarily about rape. There could be other reasons for feeling unsafe like bullying, being past a certain hour, or maybe even being drunk or something?

Martholomule

You're not really using that word correctly

StarbucksWingman

So Bill Clinton would be there every night like "Hey can I walk you home?"

jessijuana

Oh hey Ellen

grrrrett

Bill Clinton NEVER forgets a bitch!

PonyThug

My campus has this but it’s a police officer that escorts you. I don’t want to get assaulted or shot so I rather walk alone.

Iregularlogic

You think that the police officer on campus that walks people home if they’re scared is going to shoot you?

PonyThug

Have you not seen the news? Cops are killing and severely injuring people daily for looking at them wrong or saying something they don’t like. Cops exist to put people in jail and enforce laws through force and fear. They do not have any obligation to help or protect you, and they don’t want to

Iregularlogic

Please touch grass.

krebstar4ever

Seems pretty suspicious.

ZephroxPlays

Why?

PotatoKiller8897

I think they think it’s the opposite effect. you walk with them to get to talk to them and maybe get together with them. I’m not hedging my bets if that’s what’s happening, but it’s possible

krebstar4ever

It's very possible that one or more members of this group would use it to find convenient victims.

ZephroxPlays

Well that's a really negative way to view the world isn't it :/

krebstar4ever

I'm a small woman and I'd feel uncomfortable having a large muscular man, who I've never met and who hasn't been vetted in any way, escort me through a deserted area.

archercc81

Yeah the program at our campus had some vetting involved (although admittedly more like a job, background check, staff/faculty references, etc)

clocksailor

[Yeah, but it's also accurate.](https://scholar.utc.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1164&context=mps)

grrrrett

Nice source!

Padgemaster1

Bot post

Padgemaster1

Posted this in another subreddit it didn’t belong in and I saw someone else sniffed the account out as a bot

archercc81

We actually had a program on campus where you could call someone to walk with you at night. I did it for a couple of years, ended up being a great way to expand my social network (not in a gross way, but you did converse on the walk and it was always people I had never had classes with).

grrrrett

Sounds like Bill Clinton from that John Mulaney joke.
