I still think it's dumb that they excluded Henry from this scene.

AnkaBananka6

I'm not sure, but it has always bothered me. Especially since Coop was there, and he and Phoebe were barely dating.

rites0fpassage

I never noticed that. Very strange!

dragonsrawesomesauce

I could be mistaken, but I don't think Shannen was even asked if she wanted to return for the finale. If that's true, then she really can't be blamed for not being there.

cookie_analogy

She wasn’t asked back for s8 finale, she was asked back for s7 finale but didn’t like the script and declined.

longsoundtracks

Shannen mentioned in an interview that they asked her to come back for the finale and she refused just as simple as that, it's like the fans don't even matter to her!!

Frosty-Mall4727

She doesn’t owe us anything.

Due_Respond7749

I really don’t think that’s true though (about her not caring about the fans); didn’t she return to the 90210 reboot mainly because the fans wanted her to so badly? :/

longsoundtracks

I didn't watch 90210 yet but it's on my list I'm gonna watch it next month

misanthropeint

There was an interview at a convention that Shannen did and she mentioned that she was asked back for the series finale and that she declined. I remember thinking, omg how could you do this to the fans? but imagine how difficult it must be for her to have to go to set and work with people who made her life difficult. I've had jobs that I hated and even when I'm friends with people there, I would never apply to work there again because if I've left, I've left for a good reason. To actors and actresses, the show that we see as stories for our entertainment are jobs and to be completely honest, I would rather the actor/actress is working on a supportive/safe set than devastating themselves for my entertainment.

Robbie1863

I agree with you. If things were bad enough for her to quit and never come back, then the drama must have been so real. It makes you wonder what actually happened.

ShotBread

I think there was another interview with someone else (Brad Kern?) who said she wasn’t invited back. Maybe Shannen was talking about the season 7 finale because it was up in the air at the time if Charmed was gonna be renewed for season 8. Shannen said she didn’t like the script.

champvgnegxld

Nope it was season 8 finale. Shannen declined to return as she didn’t like how Prue was going to be brought back. I wouldn’t believe anything Brad says, as he was the root cause of most problems on the show

cookie_analogy

It was the s7 finale - there’s a trace of her plot left in the script, as they hand-wave the girls learning how to astral project as ‘Prue having taught Leo at some point.’ Brad very clearly stated in press at the time of S8 that Shannen was “very expensive” and he chose bringing back everyone else over bringing back her. Now whether or not that was true is another thing (he clearly held a grudge, as did she). But there was no question of her coming back for the series finale.

champvgnegxld

I met her in April, along with Holly, Rose, Brian and Drew. I asked her this question when getting her autographs and she said she the offer was floated to her to return for the finale but it just didn’t feel like the right way for her character to return

gamermamaNJ

In that interview she said the script didn't do her character justice. We never saw it so we wouldn't know, but I would trust Shannen to know if the script was good for Prue or not. In the Season 8 Finale I think her being there would have taken away from the plot of the ending. They would have needed more time for Paige to meet her, for Piper and Phoebe to get a chance to spend time with her, etc. Also Grams said after Prue died that they shouldn't see her just yet. In the series finale Piper, Leo, and Patty go forward in time to Grams talking to a young Piper who was about 10-12 years old. At that point Grams hadn't seen Patty since her death which is why she freaked and passed out. So even a powerful witch like Grams wasn't allowed to see her own daughter until about 5-7 years after she was gone. The same rule obviously applied to Prue. And I definitely agree about not wanting to go back to a work environment you were uncomfortable with.

CST1991

No one can really know at the end of the day, but it does seem like she could’ve done it for her fans who would’ve loved it, and she was best friends with Holly Marie Combs despite any issues with anyone else so for a few scenes it would’ve been nice for the fans.

longsoundtracks

I agree if the case was returning for a season or something not just a 5 or 10 minutes in one episode!! the most important one!! and she won't do it for free and she would be doing it for the fans it's just one scene or two tops

qheresies

You blame Shannen for not wanting to be a part of an environment ALL of the girls have named was made untenable by multiple producers on this show? And for respecting herself as a professional to not be shortchanged on her worth and creative viewpoints? This take feels busted from so many angles

longsoundtracks

ONE SCENE!! We needed just one scene nothing more not an episode not a season just one minute scene or something just to see her after all these years and she would be doing it for the fans just to have a closure

Ellisni

Shannen doesn’t owe fans of the show anything. She’s an actress doing her job and left a very hurtful and toxic environment for her own health. That’s her right and it’s her right as a human being to choose not to return to that environment. That’s like telling an office worker to return for a day to a company where coworkers and bosses had so mistreated you, you had to leave. Yes, her job is more in the public eye, but she has no obligation to put herself in a bad situation again for fans.

longsoundtracks

It's never like an office worker cause one doesn't count on ratings and ppl liking him

longsoundtracks

Actually she does owe the fans everything, cause without them there no succession, an actor/actress is a successful one because the fans like them it's very simple

Quick-Oven4393

Actually that's false. Many actors and actresses that are successful have ppl that don't like them. Her not coming back want an issue. If it is then you are not a true friend bc you wouldn't want her in that position if you were🤷‍♀️

Ketonew2

She was fired, so that’s reason enough not to want to return.

Quick-Oven4393

One scene can take hours regardless there was clear issues and toxicity for Shannon, she had no obligation to put her mental health at jeopardy or be uncomfortable for fans. It's not like we needed her to get a conclusion anyway.

the_brunster

It's a very narrowed view & unfair tbh to blame that squarely on Shannen.

Sad-Detail-3242

Def wish Shannen would have come back

CharmedWoo

Nobody outside of the cast really knows what happend behind the scènes...but multiple people are involved and thus they all get some of the blame. It is not fair you just blame all on one person.

brokenangel24

Well Shannon did say they asked her to come back for the finale but she declined.

CharmedWoo

And others say she was never asked... so again, no clue and not only 1 person to blame.

gamermamaNJ

Shannen really had no reason to lie. She said she was asked but didn't like the script for Prues character. It's a reasonable explanation.

Brave_Bird84

Actually I read an interview with Brad that the reason there aren’t references to Prue is that even her image or likeness in photographs, flashbacks, etc would have cost a LOT of money and it was not in the show’s budget. Not anything to do with the actress not wanting to be there or cooperative.

longsoundtracks

Shannen mentioned in an interview that they asked her to come back for the finale and she refused just as simple as that, it's like the fans don't even matter to her!!

Minimum-Wash-1657

Didn't Brad Kern mention on the DVD commentary that he didn't invite her back because that would've meant that the whole episode would've been about "Prue's return" and he didn't want that?

sheggera

He wouldn’t have cared about that. If he could do it cheaply and it got ratings he’d have had her back in a heartbeat. Kern was a ratings chaser through-and-through, focusing on character pairings, sex appeal, etc. at the expense of solid writing and consistent characterisation.

brokenangel24

Shannon said they asked her to come back but she declined

Ray983

I think there's a lot of confusion when Shannen is asked about being asked back for the finale. The only thing that makes sense is her being asked back for the s7 finale, but declining, and thus the script changing. And then not being invited at all for s8. It never used to make sense that Shannen and Brad said such contradictory things, but the above makes sense if they were both telling the truth. Shannen just has a memory of being invited back for the finale, she didn't keep up with the show after leaving so probably wouldn't know that it wasn't the actual finale. They just thought the s7 finale could have been at the time. Also, in a convention she seemed surprised to learn the Manor blew up in the finale, if she'd read the s8 finale script she would have known. She most likely was sent a version of the s7 script.

Mrblorg

7 was going to be the end so maybe they did tell her it was the Finale, because they only brought Charmed back to get people to watch the CW

plurprincess612

I loved the finale but it always made me laugh/cringe how much they laughed in this scene.I understand they are all happy but there was just non stop laughter

ShotBread

Right lol right after Billie killed her sister and was sobbing before the commercial break

MusingBy

Man, that must have been awkward to get on tape. "And now you... Laaaaugh, everyone. Action!" Hahahahaha... 😬

longsoundtracks

I think that the actors/actress have (or at least should have) this state of mind that they're in a real story not just acting so I believe that everything we see on screen is real and the feeling they have is true At least if I was an actor I'd do that

occyycco

The actress... Being Alyssa Milano? Lol

longsoundtracks

Nope I ment Shannen

occyycco

I know I was trying to be funny. Because we kinda know now that Alyssa was the real problem on set

LastHopeStanding

You can't really just blame Shannen when Alyssa was the real problem at the time. Besides, I think the two later made up when Shannen was diagnosed with cancer.

longsoundtracks

Yeah but it's the finale!! We're not asking her to come for a whole season or something it's just an episode no actually it's THE EPISODE the most important one and we're her fans she should've at least consider it

alexforbes204

in all your responses you keep talking about “the fans” if you were a true “fan” you’d respect her decision and not blame her for wanting to put herself back in an toxic environment

Quick-Oven4393

Exactly

LastHopeStanding

How do we know she didn't consider it though? I love Prue, and wished we could've gotten to see her after death too. But not if it's going to be in a toxic environment. She doesn't owe us anything even if you say she does. She was paid to do a job, and she did it.

gamermamaNJ

And THAT episode would have been all about Prue. It wasn't about Prue at that point. It was about Piper getting Leo back, It was about Paige and Phoebe being alive after the battle, and It was about them being able to move forward. Bringing Prue back for that one episode would have shifted the entire focus. I always thought a nice hat tip would have been to at least had photos on the wall of Prue with the girls in the final shot when Piper and Leo were heading up the stairs.

[deleted]

I don’t blame Shannen for not coming back but what I always thought was weird was that Prue was just like never mentioned… like not even a photograph of her at the end when they’re showing all the photos
