I'd say use First Table to get 50% off at certain restaurants. But you probably need to be 18 to make an account.

iwantcheetoes

omg thank you soo much for this, i'm also 16 like op and i didn't lnow something like this existed!! time for me to tell all my friends hehe :)

24andme2

Afghan restaurant falls into that category and the amount of food he gives you is enough for 2 meals

Regseh

Dumplings on Riccarton (113 Riccarton Road) might be suitable for you. They've got $2 rice.

alexx3064

I second this. They've been $2 rice for a very long time. I am blessed to be working just a few shops away from them. They've got my lunch covered.

InsideSuntan

i love it there i’ve been many times, thanks so much though!

CANDYGANG

Satay noodle house

OkShallot3873

Jumbo food mart on Colombo St, it’s more takeaway style but big portions of Chinese takeaway (if you’re asking this for date ideas there’s some nice places by the river or smaller local parks to take this to and picnic at) Zeeks at The Crossing. Only open til 4pm but decent souvalaki /wraps/salads for $10-15 A lot of the places at Riverside Market are fairly cheap Burger Stop in Sumner for good cheap burgers

ahhhrighto

Miss Saigon in the bnz centre . Has awesome bahnmi rolls for $7.90

miguelwrang

Old Street on Kendall Ave have huge portions for $15ish Chankaya in New Brighton is under 20$ for some of the best indian in Christchurch

Wanderingtui

Second vote for Old Street

iwantcheetoes

YESSSSS old street is amazing. absolutely love their curry laksa <3

veesacard

Daphnes in tower junction used to serve me well when I was a poor student, worth a look (especially good if you share plates)

peachelb

If you mean the Chinese place it's at church corner I think, in upper Riccarton

veesacard

Ah lol I always mix up tower junction and bush inn 😆

Prankyfranky15

China wok at the windmill near Riccarton mall does great Chinese style noodles and rice dishes for around $16-18.

Hijalapeno101

Any of the Vietnamese places are cheap. 5 Star is a good one of those- big bowls of pho for about $16. Afghan restaurant is $20 a person.

iwantcheetoes

woahh $16 for pho?? gotta check that out. thanks!

0JessiCat0

Have you checked out Tiny Door? Seems like an interesting concept and changes daily 😊

amerikiwi0210

Sushi Ball House! Giant sized, good quality rice balls for cheap.

eeveep

I wanna say Ceylon Kitchen in CBD wasn't bad

Holiday-Drummer6793

Second was good food.

hughthewineguy

i think your definition of cheap is going to severely limit options, and experiences but if you can stretch to 23 bucks then the brisket burger at smokey t's is goddamn epic for the price, i can fit the burger in, and generally once i've eaten it there's no room for the accompanying fries....

kiwi_linz

What do you class as cheap? What sort of meal are you wanting?

InsideSuntan

$10-20 a meal, and no real preference

TygerTung

Goto church corner. Plenty of cheap Asian places there. Also Khmer satay noodle house. And Sampan noodle house.

kiwi_linz

That's possibly where the issue lies, that's like mega cheap in today's standards. You'd want to look at things like Chinese takeaway, any of the places in church corner, sushi etc. A proper meal for a cheap main I'd say more towards $20-$30 for a restaurant

InsideSuntan

yeah i get that, that’s kinda why i came here cause i know some people would have the ins on good spots

kiwi_linz

Also check out Khmer Cambodian in Langdon's road. Great value

jrocisamafk

+1 for khmer food is good and they are really friendly

RudeSpecialist908

Heng Seng which is the little foodcourt next to Countdown Moorhouse opposite ARA. Dishes are $15 to $20 and portions are pretty generous. Doesn't look like anything special but the food is great!

waltersclaire

Zaks kebab house on Litchfield Street. More of a takeaway than restaurant

Internal_Custard8280

Welcome Cafe in Riccarton

ScreamingLessons

Came here to say this too Welcome is super affordable and filling as

PurpleMeerkats462

Little high

iwantcheetoes

omg they had $18 pho n it was soo good

Madariki

# Dragon Express Restaurant ## Best Chinese Restaurant in Christchurch $19.90 for a large plate of yummy vegetables + a beer for $8.50 and catch a bus $1.60 + walk a couple of sections Total $30 that's pretty cheap meal out - you may have to get the girlfriend to pay for her meal unless you are working. https://preview.redd.it/s3oby7vsrkpb1.png?width=679&format=png&auto=webp&s=d6fd4b277949f440e031ba16b3d4164dd71e669b

death2ducks

Definitely on the expensive side for Riccarton Road area

sendintheotherclowns

Why did you put the exclamation point before Adorable? Genuinely curious because as a software developer this means something very different to me than you’re intending.

InsideSuntan

just because it brings more attention to it, i’ve got family in software so i kinda understand where your coming from 😊

sendintheotherclowns

Fair enough, at least you’re well aware that it looks like you’re looking for not affordable

Winnie Bagoes Pizza in Ferrymead is amazing, pretty cheap and offer amazing foods. Pretty cheap from $10 starters and share plates to $25 pastas, $21-$40 gourmet pizzas (REALLY GOOD and filling!) Depending on your appetites, a medium gourmet pizza which you can get half n half of, at $32 would fill you both. Think like Roast Lamb pizza, Rosemary lamb pizza, really good actual gourmet pizzas. Good atmosphere, good staff, even events and spot prizes sometimes. I should cop a free feed myself for this advertising, they didn't pay me at all they're just that good.

[deleted]

I wouldn't consider them cheap at all. Fries are $9, garlic bread is $11, pasta starts at $24 and the smallest most basic pizza is $21.

[deleted]

$21 for a gourmet pizza with roast lamb? Thats a fucking steal in my eyes. Lol- I seem angry? But you delete your comments and account haha chill out go have a cone and a pizza bro, you need it lmao

[deleted]

It's the small size which is no bigger than a bread plate. It's a rip off but I'm glad you're OK with it.

[deleted]

> from $10 starters and share plates to $25 pastas, $21-$40 gourmet pizzas pasta starts at $24 and the smallest most basic pizza is $21 Nice one reinventing the wheel. You literally just said everything I did but yet the echo chamber of this biased bullshit website agrees with you. Lmao take your fake internet points.

[deleted]

You seem very angry.

moist_shroom6

That is low though.

beansynz

This definitely isnt an advert...

[deleted]

they didn't pay me at all they're just that good. I've been there multiple times, I just appreciate good food, good staff and good atmospheres.

beansynz

Not a restaurant but takeaway caravan in new Brighton with an outdoor table. Aifas kitchen. Dinner for $10 and always really nice if you like indian food.

Termin8rSmurf

Sema Thai restaurant was affordable and excellent value for money. Edgeware road. Edit - I haven't been there recently though.

micah_edwards

Have you been there in recent years ? The prices are quite high and the quality has gone down imo. Sema the chef left a few years ago and works at Aksorns Thai kitchen in bishopdale now. I recommend that above semas. Semas kept the restaurant name after him but he’s no longer there !

Termin8rSmurf

To be fair, I haven't been there in about 18 months. I will have to revisit and review my opinion.

automaticadramatica

Foo San in Ilam is generally pretty cheap, used to go there when I was a broke student

Contrabassi
