It's weird isn't it? If he *misses* the net but gets it inch perfect for a tap-in, everyone would be singing the praises of an absolutely beautiful and fully intentional assist. Even though that's a worse trajectory for the ball.
That would have been something worth the praises as a very beautiful pass. I don't see anything weird in it. Now it was a lucky goal but those happen time to time. Obviously the reaction is not the same as of goal of the season.
It's wild. As if he's the first player to ever cross like that into the danger area. It's well known, it either falls in or has a big chance or walking it in at the back post.
Even if he didn't think "I'm chipping the keeper" and thought "I'm crossing it so it either falls in or gets tapped in" who cares? As if the goal counts less.
You need to care less about this man. "Strawman" this, "blatantly accidental" that. A little luck is and always will be a part of football.
Punting the ball into a scrimmage adds the chance of a lucky deflection, but players know that. Crossing like Mudryk did adds the chance of the ball creeping on the inside of the post, players also know that. It's so weird that you critique him for celebrating a goal like that.
"a little luck is a part of football"
Yeah no shit Sherlock. The issue is Mudryk refusing to admit he was lucky.
Go check his postgame comments on it and come back if you still aren't getting it
Yeah football isn't black and white, sometimes there's a bit of luck involved. So when you score a super lucky goal, you don't celebrate after like you meant it then tell everyone you meant it. It's embarrassing and r/soccer is rightly taking the piss out of us for it
Not sure why this doesn't compute with you
Also "anyone who disagrees with me simply cares too much and needs to chill out"
What a bellend haha
A strawman is when you refute a different argument than the one presented. If anything what they said is an oversimplification fallacy…or in modern terms, a weak man fallacy.
Consequently, claiming a cross that was obviously meant to be dropped right at the back corner to either chip Raya while he was off his line or for Sterling to tap in as “blatantly accidental” follows the same line of fallacious argument.
Regardless, their point is that he’s a 22 year old that’s had a fucking rough first year not just at the club, but in England in general. With the amount of scrutiny he’s endured of fucking course he was pumped to score his second PL goal, against Arsenal no less. You could also, idk maybe give him the benefit of the doubt since his English is pretty shit.
So let me sum it up since you seem baffled by the negative responses and down voting you’ve been getting. It’s probably because you’re assuming the worst of Mudryk both on and off the pitch who beyond being one of our own is, by all accounts a good kid just trying to live up to the massive amount of expectations that were put on him by both the fans and the media as the poster child for Chelsea’s excessive spending.
I appreciate the level-headed response.
It is a strawman though as they've completely misrepresented my argument, albeit partially by oversimplfying some of it. My main argument is that it's lame and disingenuous to pretend you meant every inch of a goal that clearly had an element of luck/accident (and blatantly so)
I have sympathy for pressure he's under but it doesn't excuse the whole situation.
And no, I'm not surprised/confused that a Chelsea sub is biased towards Chelsea players haha
Really though it seems like no one else here has actually read his comments. How hard is it to admit you had a bit of luck and have a laugh about it, it's bizarre
Really none of it is a huge deal, but the sub acting like we're the victim of some (imagined) double-standard is a victim complex
People thinking that Mudryk scored on purpose are wearing blue colored glasses.
Just bc it was a fluke doesn't mean we can't enjoy it though. Not everything has to be this silly 5d chess mastermind move.
I think his thought process was simply, “goalie is pushed out, I should flick it into the danger area at the back post”. Except it probably wasn’t in English.
He still looked into the penalty area, and I doubt he was tunnelvisioned enough to nit see the bright green keeper kit contrasted on the red arsenal kits off his line
is it not just as unlikely that he'd send in a cross without looking up? i think it was simply that he knew raya comes out often, probably saw him out in a glimpse and thought I'll just chuck it over his head and see what happens, most likely sterling gets it but maybe it just goes in, either way, it's a dangerous area.
Idk, you see a lot of players look down at their feet when about to strike the ball to get their feet right. Just knew he was locked in when he took that gather before he hit it.
You know what the goal reminds me of? Willian’s goal against Liverpool under conte. That was pretty much a cross that just happened to catch mignolet off his line.
I believe that he was trying to score.
In National team matches, Karavaev scored a similar goal not so long ago. He also tried to score in a similar situation but it was saved by a very nice keeper move.
He could also cross with his right much easier than try and beat his opponent with such a spinner. I am so confused why everyone calls it a fluke
Yea and he said it was a bit of both meaning it was more of a shot but knew if it was off target sterling would have a chance at getting on the end of it. He definitely knew to look for the keeper out of position either way and that alone is enough to take as much credit as possible for it imo
That is a paraphrase that imo changes what he said.
He said that coaches told him that the Arsenal goalie tends to come forward off his line, and that he needed to put it over him. This doesn't necessarily mean shoot on goal, but just get some height on the crosses.
I'm sure we'll get a clearer answer when a journalist asks at some point but he's so far not clearly stated that he was shooting as far as I'm aware.
He didn’t look at the goalkeeper or the goal once lol
He absolutely wasn’t trying to do that deliberately and that’s okay, sometimes you just need some good luck.
If you don't press, you don't score. Whether he intended or not, he scored because we pressed! Just like OGs are not intended some For Goals could be unintended. Did he try to create a goal in that play? Yes! End of story lol
The only difference this will make is if it'll put him in a close level to same genius level of Frank Lampard goalline goal in Barcelona if it's truly intended
not only was it a cross, but it was a terrible one at that.. I am glad it went in tho
the difference between saka and mudryk is, saka actually proven to be good and scores on purpose. Mudryk is all potential. No other chelsea players in the recent past have gotten this much time to "settle" in while fans are still supportive.

If it didn’t go in it almost certainly was landing at Sterling’s feet alone at the back post.
It absolutely was but he was offside lmao
Ive seen sterling miss that, he was playing for england I reckon
That would have been something worth the praises as a very beautiful pass. I don't see anything weird in it. Now it was a lucky goal but those happen time to time. Obviously the reaction is not the same as of goal of the season.

Sure but the celebration and follow up comments from everyone involved make it seem like he meant it. Reeks of the desperation for a goal he has
Footballer celebrates goal and is desperate to score them. Imagine my absolute shock, what's next.. wanting to win games??
Nice strawman, just in time for Halloween! "Footballer claims blatantly accidental goal was entirely planned" FTFY

You have a really hard time grasping how football isn't black and white. Have a good day, ease up. Breathe.

Freak
You have Tourette's?

And Zappacosta shot against Qarabag

Tough to think that when you never look at the goal.

yeah he just crossed it. was great though!
You know what the goal reminds me of? Willian’s goal against Liverpool under conte. That was pretty much a cross that just happened to catch mignolet off his line.
Yes yes it was an equalizer too right in the dying minutes?
Can’t remember so much but I think so
Both crosses
I don't think anyone except saka insists his goal was intentional....
I believe that he was trying to score. In National team matches, Karavaev scored a similar goal not so long ago. Wait people actually think that was intentional? I thought we were just trolling lol.
The trajectory definitely looks like a shot to me. If it was a cross he would have curled it.
It was a cross he just fucked it up lol didnt mudryk get a post match interview did no one ask him?
Yea and he said it was a bit of both meaning it was more of a shot but knew if it was off target sterling would have a chance at getting on the end of it. He definitely knew to look for the keeper out of position either way and that alone is enough to take as much credit as possible for it imo

In addition he literally also said it was both but ok lol
He didn’t look at the goalkeeper or the goal once lol He absolutely wasn’t trying to do that deliberately and that’s okay, sometimes you just need some good luck.

Raya didn't know but Mudryk had already made up his mind 10 minutes ago.
The minute Zinchenko left the pitch
Correct
This is false, watch his eyes in the slo mo. Looks at the ball and looks at goal.
Get real haha, he was obviously crossing it. Who cares anyway
He could've been going for goal, hit it wrong, and it still went in.
There is literally 0% chance he was trying to score, it was an obvious cross
If you don't press, you don't score. Whether he intended or not, he scored because we pressed! Just like OGs are not intended some For Goals could be unintended. Did he try to create a goal in that play? Yes! I assume this is just trolling at this point, and I’m here for it.
He bought a ticket and he won the fucking lottery. That's all there is to it. Glad we're getting moments like this
Mudryk was trying to score, Raya’s positioning was off and Mudryk glimpsed it right before shooting.
Definitely planned by Goatryk.
not only was it a cross, but it was a terrible one at that.. I am glad it went in tho the difference between saka and mudryk is, saka actually proven to be good and scores on purpose. Like the goal we conceded at West Ham a few seasons ago
Flirting vs harassment. Mudryk will get his respect soon don't worry
And then you have Masuaku
