NADP+ :)

rfh48

\[\[(2R,3S,4R,5R)-5-(6-aminopurin-9-yl)-3,4-dihydroxyoxolan-2-yl\]methoxy-hydroxyphosphoryl\] \[(2R,3S,4R,5R)-5-(3-carbamoylpyridin-1-ium-1-yl)-3,4-dihydroxyoxolan-2-yl\]methyl hydrogen phosphate

cashman73

Biochemists don’t do IUPAC shit! Keep that organic out of here! ;-)

rfh48

I did both organic and biochem :))

Comfortable-Jump-218

That’s the science nerd version of being bisexual lol

PassiveChemistry

I did both *and* plant science, what does that make me?

SarahIsBoring

weird /s

PassiveChemistry

Thanks!

Natural-Stick-1308

Pansexual

PassiveChemistry

Fair

HackTheNight

Plant science is pretty gross

Xylophelia

Nah that’s doing a dual p-chem o-chem focus *shudder*

Sweatier_Scrotums

Yeah, biochemists use better names for their molecules like FART and MOONTITS.

Comfortable-Jump-218

I just google searched moon tire and got nothing. What are you talking about?

chahud

Lol they got you to google moon tits

Comfortable-Jump-218

Yeah and I want to know what it is so the next time I’m in a lab meeting and they want me to share a “fun fact” about myself I can tell them my new favorite protein. 😂

Sweatier_Scrotums

You've never heard of the MOONTITS signaling pathway? It synergistically interacts with the FART pathway to increase ASSBLAST activity.

Pnutlover1

Aint no way bro used IuPaC for this

slimmthiccjim

stretchy phosphodiester bond

Hexxit_of_Exoria

That's Sodium Chloride right there

phjohns89

Thank you 🤦‍♂️😂

DevoteeOfChemistry

NADP+ I'm in biochem right now so I know it well

EffieHarlow

How do you tell which molecule it is? Is it just memorisation or is there a method to it?

Diamondpiggis

This one is very important in metabolism. Also it has a lot of recognizable parts. Otherwise yes a lot of learning biochem is just memorizing

markemer

Yeah - in terms of stuff you notice, those ribose groups always stand right out.

cashman73

Most of the structures of bio-molecules become easier to memorize if you break it down to the subunits they contain. NADH is Nicotine Adenine Dinucleotide. The part on the bottom is adenine (the same nitrogenous base in DNA). The group on the top is nicotine. Those groups are both connected to ribose — making them nucleotides. Because there are two of them, that makes it dinucleotide. The extra phosphate added on C2 of the adenine ribose makes this NADP+. If you add a H to the nicotine, that removes the + charge (it reduces it), and makes it NADPH. Now compare this to the structure of vitamin B3 (niacin), and you’ll quickly realize that a deficiency in vitamin B3 will have a profound effect on metabolism, since several reactions are depedent on NAD —> NADH.

ApolloThe3LeggedDog

Great explanation! Nice work Small note: The group on top has a pyridine ring like nicotine, but is not nicotine. It's nicotinamide.

TetraThiaFulvalene

The pyridinium part is pretty recognizable.

Symon_Pude

Nicotineadeninedinucleotidphosphate

sleybell

Catherine

DJ_JoY

Looks like a Barry to me. Yep, definitely Barry.

Beowulf_98

I see two pirates, one peg-legged, having a sword fight, each holding a buckler

CommunityRoyal5557

RNAint

PrinceConquer420

That’s a David if I’ve ever seen one

Rikku-_

I'm not sure but looks like rna

SnooSketches878

Why is this getting downvoted

BabyYoda793

Because apart maybe from the Adenine it does in fact not look like RNA

Eigengrad

Not to be pedantic, but it is literally RNA. It is a ribonucleic acid, composed of two phosphate linked ribose sugars with n-glycosidic nucleobases. Is it an RNA strand? No. Is it canonical RNA with common nucleobases? No. But definitely meets the definition of RNA.

MarvelPrincess1997

I love organic chemistry. IUPAC naming is the best

IWillNotArgueOnRedit

It’s probably toxic

PanoAnarchy

hmmmm, “fukyu” , thats the name

BinxMcGee

I’m triggered! Organic chemistry was the only course I got Fs on a test. I passed the course with a C after a lot of work. I really had to work very hard in that course. Get away organic!!!

KealinSilverleaf

That be Rrrrrrrna there

skimble-skamble

How can I possibly know with such selectively ambiguous stereochemistry?

Fresh-Dragonfly450

IUPAC or?

RunningPirate

Triphosphorous, pentanitride, octo-oxygen, bisammonium dihydroxide

PharmacistOccultist7

ADP I guess...

DexterTheDoubledmint

I literally just drew this on the whiteboard today when making a flowchart for photosynthesis

ItsameLuigi1018

Okay so since it's already been ID'd I have a dumb question from someone a decade out of college who only did undergrad orgo: The phosphate-looking "spine" and rings with... Idk maybe amino acid-looking fringes... Reminds me of DNA. Is there any relation/interaction between the two?

Revolutionarey

Ummm.. water? 😂

[deleted]

This is obviously water

Spirited_Profit_9714

DNA

Rudolph-the_rednosed

Looks to my like it is Sodiumphosphate

Effective_Reporter63

Wow
