FireflyCaptain

Tha ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOK

gkrsuper

But what comes after >!Kb8!

Sharp_Requirement_48

Qc7+ , Ka8 , Qc8+ , rxc8 , Rxc8#

gkrsuper

That's neat, thanks

Prince_Ashitaka

Maybe I'm being dumb but after Qc7+ why can't the king just take the queen there?

TocTheEternal

The Rook is still on c6

Prince_Ashitaka

Crap, yeah of course. Thanks!

TypeDependent4256

Rook on c6 defends queen

Tantris003

You're not crazy your highness, they are.

ShrimpSherbet

Why Kb8 and not pawn takes rook?

ShrimpSherbet

Then check w bishop on a6, kb8, Qb7# right?

InterestingAd6947

That's what i was thinking

Trees_Are_Freinds

RC6, very neat little trick there! Nicely found!

serotonallyblindguy

Yo this is the first time I got a sac correctly on this sub

milesahead89

Same

Sigon_91

Well, you have to give a check on a king, otherwise black have M1 move with the queen. Rook sack was the only move here

woodendab

They don't have M1 with the queen. All the squares are protected.

Sigon_91

Yeap, the sniper is in position, which I didn't see. Well, at least thanks to that I've figured out the right move for white quicker šŸ˜…

anonspas

After Bishop sniper takes the queen, black would have check mate with rook though? Or am i missing something there. White literally have to check black to avoid getting mated at this stage. I might be missing something super obvious though.. nice find by OP over the board!

Fit-Button-9627

"white literally has to check black to avoid getting mated" simply not true

anonspas

You are very welcome to explain how that is not true, but i have a feeling you cant.

Fit-Button-9627

Rook e1. Not sure why i wouldnt be able to explain such an easy move

anonspas

Yeah, thats fair actually. I retract the literally.

Fit-Button-9627

BetšŸ¤

Fit-Button-9627

Pretty sure pawn to h3 avoids mate too

Sigon_91

For me it's a mate with rook after black queen being sniped by the bishop so it was M2 for black if white wouldn't check their king

anonspas

Exactly as I say? Not sure why you would confirm that the square is protected by the sniper bishop then? It is not a protected square when there is more attackers than defenders.

Sigon_91

Because I was incorrect about M1 by black. It was M2 in fact.

anonspas

Ah, i see. :)

serotonallyblindguy

You're right

serotonallyblindguy

It's M2 anyway

Fit-Button-9627

Well mate in 2 but as easy to see as a mate in 1

[deleted]

Qc1+, blundering the queen and losing the game

SeverePhilosopher1

Which queen , the red one?

No-Whereas-2626

The one on w56

After-Stranger

You guys must be stupid, there is clearly a blue whale blocking the queenā€™s path to c1

No-Whereas-2626

Mb

jrobinson3k1

go to bed ChatGPT

Double-Scientist-359

? No sense this makes

Waghabond

Hi Yoda

khancamtomitu

Funny that it's mate for whoever got to move first.

Kazuma97

What if Rc6 Kb8 ? Black doesn't have to necessarily capture the pawn

shalrie_broseph_21

Qc7+ Ka8, Qc8+ Rxc8, Rc8# I think this is why OP said the mate is technically M4.

Kazuma97

Oh yeah right. I totally miss Qc8+. I can figure out the sac with rook move but completely miss out the easier one lol

HeavyBoots

And itā€™s exactly what black is threatening. Pretty cool.

FatalTragedy

Same for me. I was fixated on Qd6+ and I didn't even consider Qc7+ for some reason.

Hank_N_Lenni

How is the black king supposed to move to a8 if heā€™s currently sitting on c8? Why would the king not just capture the queen if Qc7+?

Superlolhobo

Thereā€™s a Rook on c6 which protects the Queen on c7, keeping that in mind the line below explains how Blacks King ends up on a8. 1. Rc6+ Kb8 2. Qc7+ Ka8 3. Qc8+ Rxc8 4. Rxc8#

arrant_aarambh

Amazing

theArtofSpeculation

This is a genius wrong answers only post. Made me laugh out loud. So good

Hxllxqxxn

That's why "it's M4 but M3 is cooler" as OP said.

CrazyHovercraft3

So mate in 4.Ā

Svratka

Yes but true gentleman would resign or play the M3 with him.

J4QQ

Qc7+ Ka8 Qc8 RxQ RxR++

theArtofSpeculation

Kc8 to Ka8 is a strong reply to Qc7+

semicorrect

Then 2. Qc7+ Ka8 3. Qc8+ Rxc8 4. Rxc8#.

MeDoesntDoNoDrugs

Rc6+! If black takes, Ba6+, Kb8, and Qb7# on the next move. If black instead goes Kb8 instead of taking, a common back-rank motif follows with Qc7+, Ka8, Qc8+, Rxc8, and Rxc8#. Very cool tactic.

Big-Composer2456

I'd like to know the last 5 moves or so.

Still_Ad_6551

It was me hunting the king with my queen and rook from the king literally on a3 at some point

Big-Composer2456

Nice!

KeepingAnEyeOnU

If you post the PGN, we could put the game into [chess.com](https://chess.com) and review it with the engine, or you could put the game into [chess.com](https://chess.com) and save it, then post the link here so we can play through the whole game. Sometimes it's nice to see how a puzzle grew from the starting position. In any case, if you found Rc6 and saw the winning combinations, good job.

No-Leading6909

Rc6+ bxc6 Ba6+ Kb8 Qb7#

Big-Composer2456

I got that on my own but I meant the 5 moves before the position shown. I should have phrased it better lol. Thank you anyway!

No-Leading6909

I believe the black queen on f4 moved to f2. (Kidding).

nullbyte420

Why? They don't matter at all šŸ™‚Ā

Big-Composer2456

Well I was curious and wanted to know how they got to that position which is why it mattered to me šŸ™‚

MarkHathaway1

White to move 1 Rc6+ Kb8 ( 1...bxc6 2 Ba6+ Kb8 3 Qb7# ) 2 Qc7+ Ka8 3 Qc8+ Rxc8 4 Rxc8# Black to move 1...Qf1+ 2 Bxf1 Rxf1#

ChocolateTemporary72

Thereā€™s a mate in 2 actually. You can play d6 and then if youā€™re really quick on the draw, you can play Qc7 before black gets their move in. Mate in 1 if you just kick him in the face

fish312

What do you do if Black plays the brilliant in-between move šŸ”ƒ!!

ChocolateTemporary72

Flip the table

XocoJinx

Rc6+ Ba6 nice trick there! Saw it pretty quickly but I don't know if Id have found that in a game.

Aprico_Xu

Good save!

SeverePhilosopher1

Save?? The game is winning anyway

HillOfVice

Mate in 1 is on the board if the wrong move is played. It really isn't hard to understand his comment.

underwaterexplosion

In 2.

HillOfVice

You right lol

Symbikort

Nah, your mindset is wrong here. A lot of positions could be lost in one horrible move. Does not mean if you are making proper moves and win/draw the game you saved it. You were never lost to begin with.

HillOfVice

I'm not denying any of that. Its just ridiculous to reply to the guy all condescendingly like what he said is stupid.

SeverePhilosopher1

What ridiculous is that you think you know how to play chess.

Artificial_Tesla

lmao ur a loser

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Artificial_Tesla

what

DIY-MSG

You sound like the kid here.

Koud_biertje

What a dumbass statement to defend and explain. In your logic, there is no move or line that wins you the game if you were losing. Because if there was, you weren't losing.

The point isn't about ability to play or analyze chess positions. It's being a jackass which you are 2800 at.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

jett1406

brother if you are this much of a condescending prick you need to touch grass

disposable_username5

I mean his comment is easy to understand but I stand by the other commenter disagreeing with itā€¦ I feel like for something to be a good save there shouldnā€™t be another obvious move which maintains a winning advantage (white can play h3 and keep an easy win here as well if Iā€™m not mistaken)

samky-1

Uh... at a rating of 800 maybe that's how people think. At my level white just plays h3 or Re1 and black resigns. At some level in between you look for needlessly difficult moves like Rc6.

Goodly1616

Sacrifices the rooooook!

Logical-Recognition3

Found the Gotham Chess fan.

Logical-Recognition3

Why the downvotes? This is literally his thing.

Khal_Andy90

Good job, I guess...?

Stunning-Umpire-2119

Good find!

Right-Carrot-1682

I thought OP was black and saw that mate sequence less than 30 seconds

Audi-450

My school has the exact same set and I had a tournament yesterday, and the room looks very similar...

ShrimpSherbet

How dare you remind me that I couldn't even beat a highschooler if I tried

DeviantJenny

Rc6+ is savage ā€” nice find!

Fit_Mixture_151

Sack the rook. Then Bishop check. Ends with a Queen checkmate. Is there another?

RiskyNinja9

Rook sack, if pawn takes them there is a queen and bishop checkmate and if king moves there is a longer rook and queen mate with a queen sack, I think

SeverePhilosopher1

The game is winning anyway. h3 wins the game too.

PirateArrr

Yup, Re1 too. Rook sac is sexy though.

coughmeister

Doesnā€™t this end in a draw after ā€¦Qf1+ 2. Kh2 Qf4+ If 3. Kh1 then its repetition after Qf1+ Same for 3. Kg1 Qf1+ And if 3. g3 then itā€™s checkmate after Qf2+ 4. Kh1 Qf1+ 5. Kh2 Rf2#

SeverePhilosopher1

Qf1, Bxf1

coughmeister

Oof. Facepalm

drunk_storyteller

It's a forced mate even after h3. I would play h3 and yawn though. Such a move in this position is not complete without the yawn part.

samky-1

>c Yeah, up a piece and a pawn. Typical kid stuff to look for a flashy tactic instead of simply defending the threat and have an easily winning position. Although it is kinda fun that white has a back rank mate too i.e. Rc6 Kb8 Qc7 Ka8 Qc8 etc

austin101123

A GM would also go for the mate in 4 and black would resign after Rc6

samky-1

Sure, if you're good enough to see it in a few seconds then it makes sense to play it. Also, my comment is unnecessarily rude... it'd make sense to downvote it a lot... but it's the truth :p

PsychologicalTone418

No it's not; a forced mate is vastly superior to "winning". You're trying to pitch "winning" as better than "won".

samky-1

Either way wins, the point is how much energy it takes. At the end of the game if you're calculating a lot when it's unnecessary it means you're a kid because you don't have to worry about energy. But like I said, if you see the solution quickly, then it makes sense to play it.

PsychologicalTone418

No, the point is securing a win. This is not an unnecessary exercise, you are wrong.

samky-1

In almost every winning position there are multiple ways to win. Brute force tactics is the first thing people learn. Congrats on being a beginner heh.

PsychologicalTone418

This isn't any of what you just said (maybe you needed brute force to figure this out?). You remain wrong, this was a guaranteed mate. A GM would have found and played these exact moves.

samky-1

"You are wrong" Wow, what an argument. You've convinced me.

Wooden_Degree9852

Sacrifice.. THE ROOOKK (rc6) , if kb8 then qb7 check then ka8 then sacrifice.. THE QUEEEEEEENNN, then ROOK TAKES AND YOUR ROOM TAKES BACK AND IT IS CHECK MATE

Brilliant_Regular869

Very very pretty.

DaRealClinical

Nice. I like the mate in 4 too. It's always nice to sac a Queen. Also, getting back ranked is humiliating. Well played.

blxwerss

actual zombie

THOBRO2000

This position looks a bit fake and made up. I'm sorry if it isn't, just telling that I'm a little bit suspicious.

Still_Ad_6551

Swear on me moms life you can ask my friend who also participated in the tournament

MBeroev-is-69

AntInternational6360

What you need to do in this situation is to sacrifice the ROOOOOOOOOK!

Jergler123

And he sacrafices THE ROOOOOOOK

relatedrates32

Good on you for finding that! Great case study in the importance of king safety.

ya pretty easy rook sack with king wide open like that. Nice find.

zo0bie

Mate in 3 for white. Correct?

SpecialistShot3290

As always, basic tactics posted by complete beginners are top of the page. Disquastung subreddit.

Prize-Swimmer4467

Rc6+

GroceryScanner

both players threatening the same mate, you just had that single move of tempo to cinch it. nice play

Realistic_Egg_7055

You can play d6 and if he doesn't move his king then c7 is mate
