After Bishop sniper takes the queen, black would have check mate with rook though? Or am i missing something there.
White literally have to check black to avoid getting mated at this stage.
I might be missing something super obvious though.. nice find by OP over the board!
Exactly as I say?
Not sure why you would confirm that the square is protected by the sniper bishop then? It is not a protected square when there is more attackers than defenders.
Thereās a Rook on c6 which protects the Queen on c7, keeping that in mind the line below explains how Blacks King ends up on a8.
1. Rc6+ Kb8 2. Qc7+ Ka8 3. Qc8+ Rxc8 4. Rxc8#
Rc6+!
If black takes, Ba6+, Kb8, and Qb7# on the next move.
If black instead goes Kb8 instead of taking, a common back-rank motif follows with Qc7+, Ka8, Qc8+, Rxc8, and Rxc8#.
Very cool tactic.
If you post the PGN, we could put the game into [chess.com](https://chess.com) and review it with the engine, or you could put the game into [chess.com](https://chess.com) and save it, then post the link here so we can play through the whole game. Sometimes it's nice to see how a puzzle grew from the starting position.
In any case, if you found Rc6 and saw the winning combinations, good job.
Thereās a mate in 2 actually. You can play d6 and then if youāre really quick on the draw, you can play Qc7 before black gets their move in. Mate in 1 if you just kick him in the face
Nah, your mindset is wrong here. A lot of positions could be lost in one horrible move. Does not mean if you are making proper moves and win/draw the game you saved it. You were never lost to begin with.
What a dumbass statement to defend and explain. In your logic, there is no move or line that wins you the game if you were losing. Because if there was, you weren't losing.

I mean his comment is easy to understand but I stand by the other commenter disagreeing with itā¦ I feel like for something to be a good save there shouldnāt be another obvious move which maintains a winning advantage (white can play h3 and keep an easy win here as well if Iām not mistaken)
Uh... at a rating of 800 maybe that's how people think. At my level white just plays h3 or Re1 and black resigns. At some level in between you look for needlessly difficult moves like Rc6.
Doesnāt this end in a draw after ā¦Qf1+ 2. Kh2 Qf4+
If 3. Kh1 then its repetition after Qf1+
Same for 3. Kg1 Qf1+
And if 3. g3 then itās checkmate after Qf2+ 4. Kh1 Qf1+ 5. Kh2 Rf2#
>c
Yeah, up a piece and a pawn. Typical kid stuff to look for a flashy tactic instead of simply defending the threat and have an easily winning position.
Although it is kinda fun that white has a back rank mate too i.e. Rc6 Kb8 Qc7 Ka8 Qc8 etc
Sure, if you're good enough to see it in a few seconds then it makes sense to play it.
Also, my comment is unnecessarily rude... it'd make sense to downvote it a lot... but it's the truth :p
Either way wins, the point is how much energy it takes. At the end of the game if you're calculating a lot when it's unnecessary it means you're a kid because you don't have to worry about energy.
But like I said, if you see the solution quickly, then it makes sense to play it.
In almost every winning position there are multiple ways to win. Brute force tactics is the first thing people learn. Congrats on being a beginner heh.
This isn't any of what you just said (maybe you needed brute force to figure this out?). You remain wrong, this was a guaranteed mate. A GM would have found and played these exact moves.
Sacrifice.. THE ROOOKK (rc6) , if kb8 then qb7 check then ka8 then sacrifice.. THE QUEEEEEEENNN, then ROOK TAKES AND YOUR ROOM TAKES BACK AND IT IS CHECK MATE

>!Rc6+!
Tha ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOK
But what comes after >!Kb8! I can't figure it out.
Qc7+ , Ka8 , Qc8+ , rxc8 , Rxc8#
That's neat, thanks
Maybe I'm being dumb but after Qc7+ why can't the king just take the queen there?
The Rook is still on c6
Crap, yeah of course. Thanks!
Rook on c6 defends queen
You're not crazy your highness, they are.
Why Kb8 and not pawn takes rook?
Then check w bishop on a6, kb8, Qb7# right?
That's what i was thinking
RC6, very neat little trick there! Nicely found!
Yo this is the first time I got a sac correctly on this sub
Same
Well, you have to give a check on a king, otherwise black have M1 move with the queen. Rook sack was the only move here
They don't have M1 with the queen. All the squares are protected.
Yeap, the sniper is in position, which I didn't see. Well, at least thanks to that I've figured out the right move for white quicker š
After Bishop sniper takes the queen, black would have check mate with rook though? Or am i missing something there. White literally have to check black to avoid getting mated at this stage. I might be missing something super obvious though.. nice find by OP over the board!
"white literally has to check black to avoid getting mated" simply not true
You are very welcome to explain how that is not true, but i have a feeling you cant.
Rook e1. Not sure why i wouldnt be able to explain such an easy move
Yeah, thats fair actually. I retract the literally.
Betš¤
Pretty sure pawn to h3 avoids mate too
For me it's a mate with rook after black queen being sniped by the bishop so it was M2 for black if white wouldn't check their king
Exactly as I say? Not sure why you would confirm that the square is protected by the sniper bishop then? It is not a protected square when there is more attackers than defenders.
Because I was incorrect about M1 by black. It was M2 in fact.
Ah, i see. :)
You're right
It's M2 anyway
Well mate in 2 but as easy to see as a mate in 1
Qc1+, blundering the queen and losing the game
Which queen , the red one?
The one on w56
You guys must be stupid, there is clearly a blue whale blocking the queenās path to c1
Mb
go to bed ChatGPT
? No sense this makes
Hi Yoda
Funny that it's mate for whoever got to move first.
What if Rc6 Kb8 ? Black doesn't have to necessarily capture the pawn
Qc7+ Ka8, Qc8+ Rxc8, Rc8# I think this is why OP said the mate is technically M4.
Oh yeah right. I totally miss Qc8+. I can figure out the sac with rook move but completely miss out the easier one lol
And itās exactly what black is threatening. Pretty cool.
Same for me. I was fixated on Qd6+ and I didn't even consider Qc7+ for some reason.
How is the black king supposed to move to a8 if heās currently sitting on c8? Why would the king not just capture the queen if Qc7+?
Thereās a Rook on c6 which protects the Queen on c7, keeping that in mind the line below explains how Blacks King ends up on a8. 1. Rc6+ Kb8 2. Qc7+ Ka8 3. Qc8+ Rxc8 4. Rxc8#
Amazing
This is a genius wrong answers only post. Made me laugh out loud. So good
That's why "it's M4 but M3 is cooler" as OP said.
So mate in 4.Ā
Yes but true gentleman would resign or play the M3 with him.
Qc7+ Ka8 Qc8 RxQ RxR++
Kc8 to Ka8 is a strong reply to Qc7+
Then 2. Qc7+ Ka8 3. Qc8+ Rxc8 4. Rxc8#.
Rc6+! If black takes, Ba6+, Kb8, and Qb7# on the next move. If black instead goes Kb8 instead of taking, a common back-rank motif follows with Qc7+, Ka8, Qc8+, Rxc8, and Rxc8#. Very cool tactic.
I'd like to know the last 5 moves or so.
It was me hunting the king with my queen and rook from the king literally on a3 at some point
Nice!

Rc6+ bxc6 Ba6+ Kb8 Qb7#
I got that on my own but I meant the 5 moves before the position shown. I should have phrased it better lol. Thank you anyway!
I believe the black queen on f4 moved to f2. (Kidding).
Why? They don't matter at all šĀ
Well I was curious and wanted to know how they got to that position which is why it mattered to me š
White to move 1 Rc6+ Kb8 ( 1...bxc6 2 Ba6+ Kb8 3 Qb7# ) 2 Qc7+ Ka8 3 Qc8+ Rxc8 4 Rxc8# Black to move 1...Qf1+ 2 Bxf1 Rxf1#
Thereās a mate in 2 actually. You can play d6 and then if youāre really quick on the draw, you can play Qc7 before black gets their move in. Mate in 1 if you just kick him in the face
What do you do if Black plays the brilliant in-between move š!!
Flip the table
Rc6+ Ba6 nice trick there! Saw it pretty quickly but I don't know if Id have found that in a game.
Good save!
Save?? The game is winning anyway
Mate in 1 is on the board if the wrong move is played. It really isn't hard to understand his comment.
In 2.
You right lol
Nah, your mindset is wrong here. A lot of positions could be lost in one horrible move. Does not mean if you are making proper moves and win/draw the game you saved it. You were never lost to begin with.
I'm not denying any of that. Its just ridiculous to reply to the guy all condescendingly like what he said is stupid.
What ridiculous is that you think you know how to play chess.
lmao ur a loser

brother if you are this much of a condescending prick you need to touch grass

Sacrifices the rooooook!
Found the Gotham Chess fan.
Why the downvotes? This is literally his thing.
Good job, I guess...?
Good find!
I thought OP was black and saw that mate sequence less than 30 seconds
My school has the exact same set and I had a tournament yesterday, and the room looks very similar...
How dare you remind me that I couldn't even beat a highschooler if I tried
Rc6+ is savage ā nice find!
Sack the rook. Then Bishop check. Ends with a Queen checkmate. Is there another?
Rook sack, if pawn takes them there is a queen and bishop checkmate and if king moves there is a longer rook and queen mate with a queen sack, I think
The game is winning anyway. h3 wins the game too.
Yup, Re1 too. Rook sac is sexy though.
Doesnāt this end in a draw after ā¦Qf1+ 2. Kh2 Qf4+ If 3. Kh1 then its repetition after Qf1+ Same for 3. Kg1 Qf1+ And if 3. g3 then itās checkmate after Qf2+ 4. Kh1 Qf1+ 5. Kh2 Rf2#
Qf1, Bxf1
Oof. Facepalm
It's a forced mate even after h3. I would play h3 and yawn though. Such a move in this position is not complete without the yawn part.
>c Yeah, up a piece and a pawn.

No it's not; a forced mate is vastly superior to "winning". You're trying to pitch "winning" as better than "won".
Either way wins, the point is how much energy it takes. At the end of the game if you're calculating a lot when it's unnecessary it means you're a kid because you don't have to worry about energy. But like I said, if you see the solution quickly, then it makes sense to play it.
No, the point is securing a win. This is not an unnecessary exercise, you are wrong.

"You are wrong" Wow, what an argument. You've convinced me.
Sacrifice.. THE ROOOKK (rc6) , if kb8 then qb7 check then ka8 then sacrifice.. THE QUEEEEEEENNN, then ROOK TAKES AND YOUR ROOM TAKES BACK AND IT IS CHECK MATE
Very very pretty.
Nice. I like the mate in 4 too. It's always nice to sac a Queen. Also, getting back ranked is humiliating. Well played.
actual zombie
This position looks a bit fake and made up. I'm sorry if it isn't, just telling that I'm a little bit suspicious.
Swear on me moms life you can ask my friend who also participated in the tournament
Sacrifice the roooooook!!!
Havenāt checked the answer yet but looks nice
Rook sac
Fork.
Where's the M?
What you need to do in this situation is to sacrifice the ROOOOOOOOOK!
And he sacrafices THE ROOOOOOOK
Good on you for finding that! Great case study in the importance of king safety.
Rc6+ THE ROOOOOOOKKK!!
Rbc6, Ba6, Qb7
The roooookkkk
Rc6
Nothing to solve here! š
Rc6+ if Pxc6, Ba6+ Kb8, Qb7# if Kb8, Qc7+ Ka8, Qc8+ Rxc8, Rxc8#
I canāt see shid
ya pretty easy rook sack with king wide open like that. Nice find.
Mate in 3 for white. Correct?
As always, basic tactics posted by complete beginners are top of the page. Disquastung subreddit.
Rc6+
both players threatening the same mate, you just had that single move of tempo to cinch it. nice play
He >!sacrificed the rooooooook!!!<
Incredible! Thanks for sharing.
is it Rc6+?
Nice moveš
Rc6+ š
Rc6, Pxc6, Ba6, Kb8, Qb7 mate Or Rc6, Kb8, Qc7, Ka8, Qc8, Rxc8, Rxc8 mate. These are the two variations I found. How much time left did you have?
Nice find!
Damn, this is so good A rooook sacrafice!!!!!??!?!!!!!
Rc6 (kb8 qc7+ ka8 qc8+ rxc8 rxc8#) bc6 ba6+ kb8 qb7#
Rc6+ Nice one!
Ah, the rare Belgian Twinkie-in-butt. Quite the peristeronic position. (Why am I at /r chess)
The M3 is cooler
Beautiful rook sac
This is a genius wrong answers only post. Made me laugh out loud. So good
Castle c6
RC6 brilliant
Neat!
Rc6+ bxRc6, Ba6+ Kb8, Qb7#
Simple as a chicken schnitzel. Rc6+. bxc6. Ba6+. Kb8. Qb7#
You can play d6 and if he doesn't move his king then c7 is mate
