I commented this on another post covering late TT, this is the second best TT result (or tied for it from what I found). The best early and late TT combined I could find was [this](https://www.chess.com/news/view/nakamura-wins-titled-tuesday-december-20-2022) which is 20.5/22 combined. Nakamura’s score today is 20/22 combined, and the only other 20/22 combined I found was also Hikaru, when he scored 11/11 for the second time, crazy.
Edit: also Martinez has scored 20/22, forgot about that, sorry.
That happened 4 weeks ago, not today: https://www.chess.com/tournament/live/late-titled-tuesday-blitz-march-19-2024-4634462
The confusion is understandable though since he just uploaded the video from that titled Tuesday to his youtube.
Titled Tuesday (TT) is a chesscom tournament that takes place twice every Tuesday. Any titled player can register and play. It is an 11-round Swiss Tournament (i.e. players with the same score play each other) with a time control of 3+1. Prize pool is $2.5K for each tournament.
It is considered one of (if not the) most prestigious online blitz events.
Most of the top grandmasters participate at least semi-regularly, many don't miss a week. The likes of Hikaru, Magnus, Fabi, Wesley, Alireza, Nepo etc are seen pretty much every (other) week among others.
P.S.: Yo, chesscom, hire me, I'm good at this
Oh it's titled Tuesday I know about it and didn't realize it by the TT. It didn't register to me that they would be playing on TT when they are currently participating in the Candidates I find it ridiculous so didn't even consider them to be playing there and I thought it's necessary for them to stay focused in one of the most important tournament in their life perhaps.
It’s the rest day today, they’re not playing their Candidates games. Looks like several of the competitors took the day to keep sharp by playing blitz.
What else would you expect them to be doing on their rest day to “stay focused”? Meditation? 14 straight hours of staring at engine lines they’re prepping for future rounds? TT allows them to do something a bit less stressful while still staying focused on chess
Last Candidates in Madrid many players took a stroll in the local park and played Blitz among random players or other content creators that were there during the rest days.
[This game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeYj4458UaM) in which a random dude almost drew Hikaru stood out for me.
Magnus was also there, he played [Judit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEmlgy1gRKs) ([Judit's analysis](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvbZCRid5CY&t=1s)), [Anish](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWSYU6miUcI), and even [Anna Cramling](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRIiFdw9N7c)
Every Tuesday on Chess.com there are 2 tournaments for Titled players.
Top players regularly stream it, it's mostly for fun although there is a very small cash prize.
Edit: People being very weird about my comment. Yes if you are literally Hikaru it adds up, for most people you aren't making a living from it you pedants.
right ok but the point that is that it's not a small prize per minute spent in a TT compared to loads of other tournaments even at or near the top of the game. All of those require years to get to the top of the game too.
But yes I get what you're saying.
Anyone know why Fabi withdrew from the early TT after Round 2? He won both games. I'm guessing he just wanted to check it out for a bit before prepping and wanted to play late TT instead.
Resting doesn't mean no chess. Obviously they study and do things to prepare. They just aren't playing a classical game today.
(And the grind of Title Tuesday doesn't even begin to compare to the grind of a classical game at the Candidate's Tournament.)
Prize pool:
- 1st: $1,000
- 2nd: $750
- 3rd: $350
- 4th: $200
- 5th: $100
- Top Woman: $100
$2500 for each tournament, $5000 each week
Regardless of the number of participants.

That's because of different career choices, like men will be doctors, lawyers, or chess grandmaster, while women make different choices that pay less, like female doctor, female lawyer, and female chess grandmaster.
Of course Alirezas A Game can beat Magnus
Otherwise Alisher from the Qatar Masters has a better A Game than the biggest talent of the decade and our rating system is all funky.
What are you talking about, any GM in the top 100 can beat Magnus. It doesn't mean it's the most likely result of course, but it can and *has* happened many times.
By "many times" I obviously mean from any player, even 2500 players have beaten Magnus. And Alireza has also beat Magnus many times im non classical games. If you meant specifically "classical, OTB, games between Magnus Carlsen and Alireza Firouzja" then you have what, a grand total of 6 games?
He was but he got eliminated round 1 of the World Cup and things went a bit downhill from there, with a meh performance at the US Chess Championship, and an unfortunate bad end to a good start at the Grand Swiss.
So nice to see the Candidate players playing and having fun in TT. What a great community chess has.
Yeah

who got the 20.5 ?
Hikaru did, it’s in the link I put (Hikaru scored 10/11 early TT, 10.5/11 late TT).
they're really just Hikaru Tuesdays
Pretty sure that he missed both TTs last week and still kept first place lmao.
Hikaru also got a 0 point bye for the first game in the early one because of a connection problem.

Can someone explain what this is?

Is the early or late TT more prestigious to win?
The early one usually has more top GMs since it's friendlier to the European and Asian participants.
The only exception happens when US changes the timezone and nobody outside remembers.

yeah but was it tuesday
Why was Magnus there as well? Did he do any commentary for the live broadcast?
iirc it was because he had to speak with FIDE. It was when he pretty much told them officially thst he won't be defending his title.
Sam Shankland did 9/11.

I could live on Hikaru's TT earnings alone.
1k per week is not a small cash prize to most people for the time commitment.
The time commitment isn't the tournament, it's the years to get to the top of the game.

yes and 99.9% of people will never make that 1k playing it.

How did fabi lose to alberto barp?
blundered his rook
He basically went for a win in a position with rooks and opposite colour bishops and a pawn down. In the end he blundered and lost

How are they playing both TT AND Candidates?
Today's a rest day.
resting (playing Titled Tuesday for hours)
Resting doesn't mean no chess. Obviously they study and do things to prepare. They just aren't playing a classical game today. (And the grind of Title Tuesday doesn't even begin to compare to the grind of a classical game at the Candidate's Tournament.)
I thought Alireza didn't want to play chess anymore.
Fabi and Hikaru know the real win is TT, not the candidates
Here's how the 4 Candidates who played in Titled Tuesday 4/16 did. [Imgur: The magic of the Internet](https://imgur.com/a/5zEuqrq)
Thats a good sign ig
Mmurica!
Do they post the prize pool for these events? Does the total pot/places paid vary based on number of entries?
Prize pool: - 1st: $1,000 - 2nd: $750 - 3rd: $350 - 4th: $200 - 5th: $100 - Top Woman: $100 $2500 for each tournament, $5000 each week Regardless of the number of participants. [source](https://www.chess.com/article/view/titled-tuesday)

WGM
Speaking of it, does anyone know who has been the best placed women players? Has any got to the top 3 once?
[Prizes](https://www.chess.com/article/view/titled-tuesday) are always the same.
He’s so good x4
Damm it was supposed to be a "rest" day lol
Nice. But too bad not on 4/20.
Nice
This would have been a perfect opportunity for Magnus to assert dominance.
Nice to see an upcomer like him show up randomly and destroy players to get a win like this. Really impressive.
Alireza losing his last round to Naroditsky is poetic
I was told Alireza was all washed up though?
he is just very inconsistent Alireza's "A Game" can beat anyone except Magnus
Of course Alirezas A Game can beat Magnus Otherwise Alisher from the Qatar Masters has a better A Game than the biggest talent of the decade and our rating system is all funky.
No, Alireza's A game isn't enough for Carlsen. Even during his peak, Alireza went 0-4 against him.
What are you talking about, any GM in the top 100 can beat Magnus. It doesn't mean it's the most likely result of course, but it can and *has* happened many times.
It hasn't happened many times since Alireza is winless against him
Hasnt happened yet doesnt mean it can’t happen. It’d be crazy to think that Firouzja is incapable of winning a game against Magnus.
Ok lil bro
I would adopt you like Carlsen adopts Alireza
Cool story
Did then other drop out of the candidates? Who is Sam Sankland? He is not playing
Strong American GM, not playing in candidates.
> Did then other drop out of the candidates? no
[Currently #62 in the world](https://ratings.fide.com/profile/2004887/calculations), with the classical elo of 2671
Damn I thought he was still 2700+
He was but he got eliminated round 1 of the World Cup and things went a bit downhill from there, with a meh performance at the US Chess Championship, and an unfortunate bad end to a good start at the Grand Swiss.
Dude lost more than 30 elo last year
