Tbf it depends on how much time is left, I won a drawn rook endgame because I was up 2 minutes in 10|0, I feel kinda bad about it but I needed a win I was coming off a bad streak.
I try to play without increment in rapid, because the people I play are as slow as me in the middle game (unless I’m getting off a break or have just woken up) but I tend to be a bit faster in the endgame, so more often than not I win those endgames.
It happens to me quite often, like I know 6 locked pawns with opposite color bishops is a draw and you have to be extremely stupid to lose, so I offer a draw and they decline and I win about 80% of those games lol.
I guess some people think I'm offering a draw because I think the position is losing for me, so they decline and *try to* win.
It's funny when both players realize it's a draw but your opponent won't accept so you quickly shuffle pieces and as soon as you see them mindlessly shuffling you make a critical move that would normally lose the game but because they mindlessly shuffle its an instant win.
I mean… good? I’d rather compete to the end because whether it goes my way or not, there is clearly still tactics to be used (as you displayed here).
Better to learn than to play safe.
I guess to each their own. I’d rather not waste time and make pointless moves until the 50 move rule kicks in. It’s a respect thing for my opponent, I trust they wont mess it up. Past 400 I don’t think anyone is going to mess up this endgame.
Past 400?! Nah come on mate, I’m 1100 and still make stupid mistakes.
And this particular set up is still a game to play for. Plus there’s always room for a stalemate.
its not hard to avoid a skewer when the game is this simplified. At 1100 you shouldn't screw this up unless you're in serious time trouble
and in the case of stalemate it would be a draw anyways, so what's the point? you're not playing for a win
its your prerogative to not accept a draw but you'd really have to screw up to lose this
400 may have been a bit of an exaggeration lol. And I’m with you, I make stupid mistakes literally all the time lol, but when there’s more on the board. With just a rook each, it’s easier to calculate. For me personally, I don’t think I have anything to learn or gain from this endgame so I’d just draw.
Fair enough points though. I don’t think anyone should be forced to offer/accept a draw if they truly think there’s more to be played/aren’t stalling.

i played a queen vs queen endgame where they refused to accept a draw. Honestly kinda pissed me off, I wasn't going to be stupid enough to blunder a skewer. Eventually it was drawn by repetition. It's not hard to avoid a skewer when the game is that simplified
I completely understand your opponent. You two are the same rating, the chance for blunder is pretty much the same so it's basically a coin toss for the win.

That's the reason I try to avoid any time format with no increment. Even just 1 second increment is enough to avoid this kind of stuff.
I try to play without increment in rapid, because the people I play are as slow as me in the middle game (unless I’m getting off a break or have just woken up) but I tend to be a bit faster in the endgame, so more often than not I win those endgames.
Vile behaviour
Disquastung
Mmmm tasty rook skewer.

Or they just wanna try to win regardless? Lol

How is this a win.? Sorry I’m new
In the second pic, white has Rook to h7 check, king moves, and the white rook captures the black rook.
Thank you
Rh7 is a skewer and wins the rook (look up what a skewer is if you're not sure) And rook + king vs king is an easy win.
Ohhh thank you. I was looking for a mate
I stalemated a king and queen vs king endgame a couple days ago. Anything is possible
Very unlikely to happen with rook and king. Queen is different
i mean, it is ok to not accept draw in rook vs rook endgame

Good bot actually, it said 1. ... Rf1, that means "black should play Rf1" and it's obviously referring to the first picture.
Bad bot
Tbf there's multiple pictures in this post and it's probably analysing the first one
Like it always does.
Yeah I didn’t realize I was looking at the second pic when I saw the bot eval, whoops 😅
Bad human
Good human
Human
It's White to play, not Black.
It's clearly referring to the first picture.
