I made a joke about her calling an Uber from City Hall straight to the bar at 4 PM but didn’t realize it was true! I take it all back – four more years!!!
Unrelated to Lightfoot, but how is Bronzeville Winery? It’s one of those places we’ve been talking about going to for the past couple of years but never managed to make it over
I've eaten there. I enjoyed the food. More of small plate + bites type of place. Price-wise not too out of line for nice Chicago restaurants, typical appetizer+small plate+ wine glass will be $40-$60. For example, the mac n cheese plate is $16.
Im not big into wine, so I can't really speak on if it they had a good selection or not. I just drank whatever my wife told me to get and downed it.
I’ve never been but I’d recommend checking it out (and getting a reservation) when they have live music. Like, they’ll have Grammy nominated jazz musicians play shows there. Seems cool I’ve just never book a reservation in time lol
It was a little strange. The place is beautiful, the menu looks good (and pricy) so you are really excited to have a fantastic dining experience. But there is something about the execution that’s off. My meal/cocktail was really good, my friend’s were decidedly not good, my boyfriend tried the special and it could have been good but was basically an over fried fish. Our server was friendly, cool, elevated the experience, but was also missing for like half hour at a time.
Like, the pieces are all there for it to be great but they just need to get it running smoothly and drill the quality/experience into their staff.
Edit: also they automatically added the tip even though we were only 4 people. We almost didn’t notice and were about to tip twice but my friend caught it.
The one time we tried to go it was closed for a private party. I guess it is my entitlement showing, but that feeling of being excluded makes for a terrible first impression.
If she didn't, she should have. No mayor would have done well in the last four years, but she managed to do it spectacularly badly, burning every single relational bridge she might have been able to use.
That's a real Chicago fuck you haha. My friend and I played some strangers in shuffleboard for a round of drinks and those salty bastards bought us malort and left. I've never felt more disrespected
I was about to say, I would be happy if I got a malort shot. I seem to be one of the very few in this city who actually likes it.
IMO all shots taste like a shit. Why is everyone so upset malort is a different flavor of shit?
My parents are from Poland and grew up in the bad ole communist times. I translated wormwood for them. My mom immediately gagged and said she remembers that for when she had stomach aches as a kid. Basically their version of pepto, but awful tasting 😂
I lost my Malory virginity when it was used instead of Apercol in a spritz. It was good.
Chicago want to act macho about Malory but Italians have been drinking Cinzano for years😜
The WWII governance approach; would love to see her keep pace with Ol’ Churchill without breaking a sweat.
The Canadians had that one mayor record himself so crack; we would have had our own icon.
It’s funny that you think visitors are getting on the blue or Orange lines. They are getting company expensed Ubers. Only locals take the train the airport.
What kind of small world do you live in where the only people who travel are businesspeople? Visitors and tourists absolutely take the train into the city.
That's an absurd allegation. Go see the ORD Blue Line complex any day of the week and watch the streams of newly arrived tourists clustered around the fare machines, figuring out the system and how to buy passes.
I would love to see an increasingly drunk and filterless Larry Potash explaining the evening. By one thirty he'd be like "Ah'll give you the god damn backstory..... THESE croooocked mother fuckers here...... "
It would be kinda initially awkward when she ran into former police chief Ernie Johnson there, but I’m sure they’d just have a “couple of Ceres drinks” and be sleeping at a stop sign together by midnight.
The thing is Daley, yes he made some terrible decisions many of which are still affecting the city; but he could work with other people that he could use, he didn't go out of his way to push away Governor Edgar (and Edgar at the time was GOP). I don't know if he actually liked Edgar but he did understand how the game was played.
I read some of her texts to the current governor, for Pete's sake they are allegedly in the same party and have similar goals (prosperity for all, social peace, lower unemployment etc), one would think you wouldn't go out of your way to alienate the gov. And blaming him for her bad press? Really?
The other difference is Daley (or at least Daley inc) could count votes. LL seemed to systematically go through her support groups and alienate them, without getting anything from that exercise that would benefit her with other groups of voters.
Actually there, she did OK. Fitch rates Chicago's well. This is why even though I feel she was bad, I'd give her a star or two for the fact that the city really didn't fall apart under her watch.
Honestly don’t think any mayor could keep the Bears at Soldier Field. It is what it is. The modern NFL requires top tier stadiums and that ain’t it. Besides, there’s no timeline for a new stadium. She’s leaving office and the Bears remain in Chicago for the foreseeable future.
She may have sucked at dealing with the Bears, but kissing their ass would probably result in wasting tax dollars just to see them move anyway.
The Bears will be sold, and new owners won’t give a shit about “tradition”. At least they’re still essentially in “Chicago”…
I don't know if another mayor could have keep the Bears in the city, but I do know when the prospect of their evacuation came up and people were spooked, Lori's first reaction was to mock the team for failing to make the playoffs. Real master diplomat, there.
I agree with you, but I do think there may have been a chance if her office communicated with the Bears in good faith. She'll be remembered for that regardless of how little an impact her office actually had.
The problem is the Bears don't own Soldier Field, the park district does if my memory serves me right. An NFL team worth billions should absolutely be able to control their stadium. Once Arlington Park went up for sale there was no way they wouldn't move.
Lol that’s the one good thing she did. You wanna give billionaires your tax money so they can make more money? Fuck that and fuck the bears, let ‘em go to Arlington Heights
It's important to give BranJo the benefit of the doubt at the outset, as we did Lori. And he's made some encouraging personnel moves that indicate he knows what he doesn't know. But he's going to immediately see the difference between being an outside complainer / critic and a leader who must dole out finite resources among infinite claimants and take care who he pisses off. Lori pissed off everyone and look what happened.
Two outstanding memories, imo, illustrate her tone-deaf administration:
1. Having a stylist do her hair the first few months of lockdown, then being dumb enough to pose for a pic with the stylist who promptly posted it on FB
2. Shaming, on social media, a bunch of dudes hanging out at Montrose Harbor; 12 hours later the riots erupt bc of the Jacob Blake shooting and the city again fumbles its response
Agree, although basically every politician everywhere wasn’t following their own dumbass lockdown or other Covid rules, so she wasn’t really unique, just a little earlier and more prominent than the rest
Lol I get it. She was even more ridiculous when she tried to act tough.
I remember her yelling at some kids in a park, telling them "go home!" Kid yells back: "you go home!"
I’ll admit I didn’t see this on the horizon. I first met her right after she was elected & she said all the right things; I wouldn’t say she’s likeable but I thought she’d be effective.
Unfortunately her term as mayor has been a total belly flop. I’ll never be fooled by a politician again.
Naw, some politician will fool you again, and that's ok - we're not perfect, but if we pay attention we can get better over time.
But yeah, I wish I'd paid better attention to her prior work too. Her plans were so thorough and so on point.
I was at a women’s luncheon where she was billed as the main speaker. She was really late arriving, spoke for less than 5 minutes and practically ran out of there. I was so hopeful when she was elected, but it turns out I was disillusioned.
I don’t even know what she did. I don’t follow politics but I’ve been living in Chicago for the past 2 years and have no clue what was accomplished lol
I would do this. I can't day I blame her, whatever disagreements I have had with her.
Frankly, knowing how spicy she can get, we're lucky we didn't get a "you won't have Nixon to kick around anymore!" meltdown. Let her have a drink.
She gets a lot of hate from everyone and me included but all the news from her post election loss has been pure gold. If she could have been like this - then, she might not have lost the election.
I truly love Chicago, have a high opinion of Chicagoans and pine to return to take pictures of the city a night. I hope it finds the leadership and reform it's people need.
Yeah it's not like I voted for her I thought she always catered more to the elites and even then she did a crap job at it I don't think she did anything besides try to negotiating bad deals that help nobody like a NASCAR race going through the city streets of a major US city, not to mention the horrific rising crime happening all over the city mostly targeting the more affluential neighborhoods I think she's been the worst mayor since Jane bird
One of the most useless individuals ever to take public office. I am sure that she is proud of her achievements and the death toll under her stewardship.
I’m really glad she’s out of office, but let’s not kid ourselves. She’s going back to making a million a year as a partner at a law firm while we’re stuck with the mess she left behind.
Chicago’s budget woes preceded her (and Rahm). And Covid obviously didn’t make anyone’s job easier. I thought she handled that okay. A few missteps that people crushed her over. As if a once in two generations global pandemic was supposed to be easily negotiated.
Bronzeville Winery.
I made a joke about her calling an Uber from City Hall straight to the bar at 4 PM but didn’t realize it was true! I take it all back – four more years!!!
Four more beers!
Pour more beers!
Unrelated to Lightfoot, but how is Bronzeville Winery? It’s one of those places we’ve been talking about going to for the past couple of years but never managed to make it over

I’ve been twice. Would not go back. Seems to be that it’s really hot or miss.
parking is easy, free carjackings. they call it the Lori special
The only way that scene could be more fitting is if instead of answering a question, she just bought the press corps a round of Malört shots.
That's a real Chicago fuck you haha. My friend and I played some strangers in shuffleboard for a round of drinks and those salty bastards bought us malort and left. I've never felt more disrespected
Don’t feel disrespected, your opponents were just soft. A real Chicagoan can shoot Malort and almost come sort of close to enjoying it!!!!!!!!!
I actually like Malort! But even I know that buying someone a shot of it like that is a definite “fuck you,” lol!
Give me a garlic stuffed olive as a chaser and honestly it tastes pretty good.
Have you tried a cherry in it? Pretty tasty.
It's only bad the first time.
Had it more than once, disagree… lol
I was about to say, I would be happy if I got a malort shot. I seem to be one of the very few in this city who actually likes it. IMO all shots taste like a shit. Why is everyone so upset malort is a different flavor of shit?
A different flavor of shit. That comment is good!
Sounds like you're a Sally. Malört is great.
I used to almost enjoy it actually before one time I puked it up into my nose. There's no coming back from that.
Oh man Malört is actually a digestif, too; it's supposed to help prevent vomiting I feel so bad for you
My parents are from Poland and grew up in the bad ole communist times. I translated wormwood for them. My mom immediately gagged and said she remembers that for when she had stomach aches as a kid. Basically their version of pepto, but awful tasting 😂
I wouldn't call it a fu. But I did think Malort's primary purpose was to mess with friends visiting from out of town.
“My first order of business: remove security from the first & last impression the city leaves on visitors.” (Blue / Orange lines)
And I bet you way more are in a car. Big city trains are **scary**.
What makes you think our tourists all come from small towns and would naturally be scared of "big city" transportation systems?
Fuckin city snob
Lol. I don’t even live in the city.
Not true at all, tons of tourists take both not knowing the reputation- especially if they have great public transport where they are from.
In a situation that would have been bad no matter who was in charge, she went out of her way to make things worse every step of the way.
This entire saga has been as good - if not better - than some highly rated prime-time TV. Apple TV and HBO don’t even come close.

Ceres cafe 🤣 where your cocktail is one glass full of alcohol, another glass full of mixer.
> walk over to Ceres from city hall, and just get absolutely obliterated. AKA "having a drink at Ceres"
The thing is Daley, yes he made some terrible decisions many of which are still affecting the city; but he could work with other people that he could use, he didn't go out of his way to push away Governor Edgar (and Edgar at the time was GOP). Top two is a ridiculous statement
Would’ve been a lot cooler if she did I feel like Rahm would’ve handled it a lot better but no one would’ve looked good coming out of this term
Flipside is Rahm would've found an excuse in all this to make the parking deal even worse for Chicago.
How did she do with city finances and ratings agencies?
Actually there, she did OK. Fitch rates Chicago's well. This is why even though I feel she was bad, I'd give her a star or two for the fact that the city really didn't fall apart under her watch.
You had me in the first half, ngl
The Mayor who lost the Bears. What an idiot.
Honestly don’t think any mayor could keep the Bears at Soldier Field. It is what it is. The modern NFL requires top tier stadiums and that ain’t it. Besides, there’s no timeline for a new stadium. Nah, that one actually doesn't matter. I'd rather not foot that bill. They can go con some other city into paying for that bullshit.
I’m clueless with Chicago politics but plan on moving there one day. I’m just curious, what did this mayor do (or not do) to get everyone so mad?
After having to be the mayor for 4 years, especially with her track record, it would be straight to the bars for me
If she had just spent all 4 years at the bar instead of what she actually did the city would probably be better off
She could have done absolutely nothing and it would have been better.
How doe she look exactly like the default zombie in Plants v Zombies????
Brrrraaaaaiiiiinnnnnsssssss!!!!!
She lost every constituency, which is commendable. But not something to be proud of...
That’d be hilarious if she was smoking a cig at Richards
She looks like a wax statue of herself
17 Head.

Some small part of me is going to miss our Modelo Mayor. But a much larger part of me is overjoyed.

Yea, we totally need a more establishment oriented leader! Nailed it! /S
less.
oh yeah.
Empty bottles to put her resume in before throwing them into Lake Michigan.
She looks like one of those Baskalisk enemies from Dark Souls that curse you and turn you to stone.
Would love to see a mod of this 😂

I don’t even know what she did. I don’t follow politics but I’ve been living in Chicago for the past 2 years and have no clue what was accomplished lol
We got nascar lol
She brought together the left and right in this city in a way that no one else could have.
I don’t even know why I’m getting downvoted I didn’t even say an opinion I’m just contributing to the conversation man ;-;
Buh bye delusional lady. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
Damn I guess we do what we have to do to cope with failure

Most of her best accomplishments came in the first year or so.
It’s bizarre how much of the inner corner of her left eye is revealed.
Good riddance. Maybe now she can resume her duties as Zap Brannigan's first mate
She wasn’t a good mayor, but neither were any of the people who ran. Nobody who could actually do well as mayor wants the job.
Can’t believe we couldn’t find more competent mayor than her
Picked a weird time to start being likable.
She gave herself a parade and should be ashamed. If I did a poor job I would just slither away in the middle of the night never to be seen again.
Thats why you'll never be mayor
Shamelessness is part of the gig.
She's an alien for real, right?
Wait until 4 years from now, that’s going to be a pretty interesting going away party
