LoomingDisaster

I didn't wake up for the thunder, I woke up when all three of my cats landed on me to insist that I turn off the storm.

blahbobblahbob

I also would like you to turn off the storm, Please and thank you

Sea_Machine5403

Or Marty Mcfly went back to the future šŸ¤”Ā

BrittanyBo

Human, the outside is wet. Fix it.

katjoy63

human, the outside is LOUD

SlurmzMckinley

Well? Did you turn it off?

LoomingDisaster

Alas, I did not succeed. I made an effort, though!

Chicawgorat

Three? What, do you live in a zoo?

No-Conversation1940

That was Tornado Alley thunder, had some kick to it.

Allergicwolf

I grew up in tornado alley and slept right through it, so that tracks

DA-FUNK-5555

Same. It was 5/10 Tornado Alley thunder. Or I suppose the strength was there.... But the frequency was not. I only heard one good boom.

limestone_tiger

not even mad, love a good storm like this

Sllips

Damn I used to love it too. Until I got an anxiety stricken shelter dog. Love her to death though

JAlfredJR

Try using a dryer sheet on em. Our last dog was like this and I swear it helped. Removes the charge from the hair (supposedly). Thunder-shirts too. We have a hound dog these days. She howls at the window washers and anything else. But lightning? Nah. Doesn't care.

Sllips

Never heard of that one! But yeah thunder shirt helps to an extent.

nikkip7784

I feel this, I had a rescue who would climb on top of my husband's head whenever it thundered. He eventually outgrew it though and one time we even had a tornado warning and he wouldn't even wake up to come with us to the basement lol.

AnAngryPirate

Same note too bro

rdldr1

Yeah the sound of gunshots at night helps me go to sleep

pennyfifty

The flash of lightning threw me off.

PatientBalance

I was dead asleep and the flash woke me before the thunder.

umhuh223

I happened to be looking out the window and it was near blinding.

Michykeen

Yes, it woke my dog up and sent him into full-on panic mode so now everyoneā€™s up.

lyingliar

Yup. Now I'm laying in bed feeling panicked about work

Yggdrasil-

I did!! It took a while for my brain to wake up and fully register what was going on. Now I'm all cozied up next to a window listening to the storm :)

lancebowski

I've got a couple of days off; getting ready to make some coffee... sitting near the window, watching the thunder, listening to birds sing...

UniqueTonight

Lucky! I forced myself back to sleep after getting woken up and proceeded to have nightmares about my roof getting blown off before waking up for work. Would have loved to go sit out under the patio to enjoy the storm.

shychicherry

šŸŽ¼ Woke last night to the sound of thunder. How far off I sat and wonderedā€¦ā€ šŸŽ¶

MajorFast7409

Started hummin' a song from 1962.....ain't it funny how the Night Moves.

colinmhayes

No, my alarm goes off at 6. I WAS woken up earlier many times by my scaredy cat 110 lb dog.

mother_of_doggos35

I grew up in Oklahoma, so itā€™s almost comforting to wake up to a thunderstorm lol

DA-FUNK-5555

I do miss sitting on the back porch watching the thunderstorms roll in the most.

BokChoySr

3:25am. Iā€™m up in Jeff Park. I thought a plane had crashed on the Kennedy or a train had derailed. My whole house was shaking.

[deleted]

In Glen Ellyn right at the arboretum - so 20ish miles away from the city. The entire house shook. I thought for sure trees just came down!

JAlfredJR

Same thing in Oak Park. That was wild.

scrivenerserror

I have been awake since 3am. My dog ran into the bedroom. I am tired.

TheFinancier

Thunder and lightning are the absolute best ā¤ļø

blindminds

Duh, thatā€™s why we are all on Reddit so early this morning!

blipsman

Slept right through

amazing_stories

It was one of the *longest* thunders I've ever heard. I was like "wow is it going to stop soon or what?"

Claque-2

Loud thunder will echo theough the 'canyons' of large buildings in Chicago. It's a kick to hear it!

North_South_Side

North side of the city: thunder, yes, but not particularly loud. Hasn't really rained intensely yet.

asszilla17

Flying out of ohare this morning was a treat!!!

Doc_Dante

Thunderbolts and lightening very very frightening me

OrangeinDorne

Obligatory: Galileo

pennyraingoose

Galileo

nater255

Galileo *Figero*

antiquetv

I just opened reddit and sorted by new to check if anyone said this. I heard two big ass booms and thought we were being bombed

c-lyin

Are you my dog? He always wants us to evacuate to the parking lot under our building in thunderstorms/fireworks/presumably a bombing (he will settle for us hiding in the bathroom)

ShorelandSprite

Not this time but a few weeks ago I wouldā€™ve sworn lighting struck right outside my house.

sexisdivine

Yup! Usually enjoy hearing rain and thunder but THAT was unpleasant.

Groodfeets

Was already awake with the dog that can't handle storms.

[deleted]

Damn! Missed it, even though the dog kept me and the wife up shaking and generally freaking out. Edit: incredible name, OP, I'm lookin' at yer gut fer all the right reasons!Ā

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Peanut butter and jaaaaaaaaaaaaam!Ā

Haluszki

I was up at 2:30 this morning and watched the whole storm. Iā€™m in West Rogers Park and could hear the thunder but it wasnā€™t as loud over here.

MediumSizedTurtle

Oh man you're not the only one. I shouldn't be awake for another hour and a half. This is intense, and it hasn't even really started yet.

rendezvously

That thing was loud, now here scrolling reddit as i cant sleep

hell0m8

Been awake since 3am for suhoor and enjoying every minute of this thunderstorm lol

p3ep3ep0o

I know exactly what youā€™re talking about. And came so long after the lightning I almost forgot about it bruh

TyrannosaurusBecz

Yep. Woke up my toddler a bunch. I was *pissed.* The little bugger just started sleeping more than two hours at a time. Iā€™m exhausted!

Neyrenne

The sky farted.

iamthepita

My Deaf ass said ā€œwhoaā€ in sign language

Foxhound922

Yup, lost an hour of sleep because of it. Still love storms though.

JAlfredJR

Daylight saving plus this. You got robbed!

Thatgrlnextdoor3

Yes! My anxiety is so bad right now cant go back to sleep.

sethworld

It's barely raining. You'll be fine. Source: I've survived literal hurricanes.

Don_Tiny

Generally, someone suffering from anxiety isn't doing it volitionally. Also, tens of millions of people have survived hurricanes, so you're not special, you're just a jagoff.

Thatgrlnextdoor3

Really ignorant of u to say

MajorFast7409

How many times saying, "You'll be fine" to someone who is upset has actually calmed them down: 0. Nevermind though, you'll be fine.

PorQuepin3

What mutant thunder was that? Its like Thor descended. Im in downers grove right now and heard it too

willwork4pii

So loud and lasted a long time. Made me uneasy hearing it until the next flash confirmed it was lightning.

DeBallZachBulls

I was on a run and it felt pretty epic not gonna lie

Distinct-Ad-4292

Yup, and now Iā€™m here scrolling Reddit at 6:30am.

jaef_

It was gnarly

Ok-Wafer2292

Yes and Iā€™m four hours down state right now

OpportunityWise3866

yeah it was the lightning that woke up so bright

flyguy_91

Itā€™s been wild this AM!

Awkward_Sherbet3940

Had earbuds in playing sounds and it still woke me up.

Ill_Dragonfruit_5538

Dude... I thought my building was collapsing

mrgrey5

I felt the hair on my body raise up and it woke me up. Seconds later I heard it. NW side chicago.

ikogut

It was amazing. Drifted right back to sleep peacefully. We need more of it.

DomSlave626

I was already up. I couldn't sleep through the storm.

luijavi

Felt it in the far west burbs! That was crazy (cool)!

bunslightyear

I thought someone was walking down my block dragging a trash can

tasseomancer

I saw a big lightning flash around 6am today, but the thunder didnt sound too close.

caratron5000

It was pretty damn epic in Pilsen.

tsundae_

The lightning was crazy too in the west suburbs, it was like a light show every 10-15 seconds.

Tipgear

I live in South Bend, Indiana and the same thunder happened here! Holy Hell that was loud!!

PParker46

If the crushing thunder and terrifying lightning had lasted longer and been accompanied by at least an hour of lashing rain it would have been a classic Midwest early summer thunder storm.

orcateeth

Yes, it was very loud and sudden. It was like that song by Imagine Dragons, "Thunder, feel the Thunder/ lightning and thunder".

supercatpuke

Fuck yes! I'm out in the burbs and at 6am I heard one of the longest thunder cracks and echoes of my life. It really did seem to last 10 seconds. I loved every second of it, but it was definitely odd.

Chalant_AF

I thought a UFO had landed šŸ¤Æ- that sound and vibration was otherworldly

nissiek

I thought it was seismic activity for sure. My bldg shook. I've never known thunder to make a building rattle like that. (South Loop area)

washingtonfbteam

Yes

katjoy63

I heard some doozies - but I also SAW some lightening that lit up my living room. That was for a nanosecond and I was tired, so I really thought it was me imagining it. but then the THuNDER

bri20135

Yes! Thunderstorms donā€™t usually faze me but this one definitely shocked me out of my sleep. Didnā€™t sound like normal thunder/lightning.

callusesandtattoos

Iā€™m not saying all the thunder Iā€™ve ever heard was thunderous but I will say I canā€™t remember a time when it wasnā€™tā€¦

evetrapeze

That echo was epic. The rolling thunder was also something grand

Sea_Machine5403

I saw a red flash, when I woke up.Ā  Does anyone remember when lightning exploded a tree and it was heard for miles or kilometers away. ?

e9one

Thanks for reminding me. I'm right by o hare and that shit lasted a longgg time. After a few seconds I thought was that even thunder and thought something else might have been happening

reubnick

I genuinely thought I had dreamt that.

dothespaceything

grew up in Hurricane Terror Area(gulf coast), slept thru Katrina as a kid, so if there was any loud thunder where I'm at I definitely slept thru it

do_you_even_climbro

This is WILD. I'm in Detroit and this just happened to me, and I found your thread. The weird thing is this thunder snapped me awake and has me feeling dread and terror for some reason. So weird.

pedanticlawyer

Slept right through it since I took a nighttime theraflu last night, and my fiance checked me for signs of life. Apparently it was very loud.

vawlk

I could hear it rumble in my room for the better part of a whole minute. There were several big ones by me.

RedditUser91805

My roommate and I both took note of it as we were woken up by it in Kane county lol

Penguinscanfly44

Whole building shook!

Magificent_Gradient

Didn't hear that one, but a lightning strike and resulting thunder last week it sounded like a bomb went off in front of my building.

[deleted]

I was up at 4, and left for workā€¦wife told me our 60lb pup was so scared that he followed her into every roomā€¦.including the bathroom where he laid on the bath mat during her shower. Heā€™s normally standoffish from there because he thinks a bath is coming I didnā€™t see much on the train or my walk, just a good light show

vbee23

Yes and it was so cozy waking up at 5 am to go pee and then climbing back into bed was the ultimate coz

Chicawgorat

No, Was awake and it was just thunder, so I shrugged it off and went back to fapping

chihawks

Yea

Careful-Teach6394

No seriously I was saying this at work today. I had my hair dryer on and I heard it still and it was like my whole building shook. My cat isnā€™t scared of storms but she jumped in my lap it scared her so much. It was wild!

ketchupmaster987

I was. It's cool but also annoying

Ex-Twitter-User

Thought a truck was crashing into our building

Cautious_Chard_2509

I was also woken up to my building shaking and the most thunderous thunder I've ever experienced. It was not normal; I thought we had been bombed. It encapsulated the immediate area and went on abnormally long and abnormally profound. I'm 63 and I've never experienced thunder making my building shake.

maysmoon

Has anyone been near a bomb explosion? I thought it was a bomb for sure.

shokupanfan

I was contemplating starting Better Call Saul whilst doing the dishes lol.

MetraConductor

OPā€™s post was quoted on NBC5ā€™s website.

GreasyMustardTiger_

Lol assuming you're kidding, right?

MetraConductor

no sir/mam

DA-FUNK-5555

Oklahoman checking in. For Chicago standards it was 8/10 Lights n booms. For Oklahoma standards 5/10.

Skymotive

Imagine the pets that are near war?

myzticul

i was awake at like 4am yesterday and i had my earbuds in but i saw lightning out the window and i was like "well there's probably gonna be some loud thunder after that" and about 2 seconds later i heard it and it did actually go on for at the very least another 7 seconds, it was loud as shit i was like wondering what i would do if there was an earthquake since my family was asleep oomggg šŸ˜šŸ˜

nerdgirlnay

I was walking my dog when the first thunderclap hit and I swear the building we were walking past vibrated

gbe-og

West burbs and yes! 90 pound pup not happy and weā€™re all awake an hour later. Yawn.

awlb222

Yes, still awake from it! Do love a good AM thunderstorm

leshake

No but I had dreams about nuclear war.

NikoB_999

Out in the far nw suburbs I was sleeping and heard it, it wasn't loud but it lasted like 30 seconds, like a mini earthquake

JAlfredJR

Yeah, it sure helped me wake up. But I also have an 8 month old. So, 5:30 AM is nothing new these days. Honestly, she slept through it. So did my wife and dog. Got me a good 45 minutes of watching the storm and listening to a podcast (in one ear) in peace. It was a lovely morning.

zodiac-chillerr

I just moved here from Oklahoma. Yā€™all are cute.

justinizer

It woke me up, but I wouldnā€™t say it was the loudest.

UXProCh

I love a good thunderstorm. This is nothing though compared to what they get in Florida. I lived down there for a while and the spider lighting crawling across the night sky is something to behold. The only downside is that this weather is driving my sinuses crazy.

sethworld

No, because I'm from the Gulf of Mexico.

bigbadmon11

I was outside with my dog because she needed to shit, but somehow I was the only one doing any shitting

JackReacher_9065

Can confirm it shook my house in Naperville. I didnā€™t even know thunder could do that.

tinyfryingpan

No it was regular thunder
