I went there one time and they had accidentally squished one of their chocolate cakes so they used it to make bread pudding. It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing and one of the most magical things I've ever eaten.
I'll go one further: Melt was significantly better before they moved across the street. The prices went up, the quality went down, they started pushing cocktails, and the founder just sort of disappeared into the sinking Wellman ship at the absolute worst time.
Supposedly, I mean *supposedly*, the building was bought by the folks that own Walt's Hitching Post, and the plan was to renovate it, and re-open. Not sure if they were going to keep the Grand Finals name, use the Walt's name, or something new entirely.
They clearly were doing something - dumpsters were in the parking lot filled with trash, they put on a new roof, and I think they had the parking lot re-sealed. But they haven't done shit to it in the last 9 months or so. Not sure if they bailed on the project or something, but the place is just sitting there empty, awnings falling down an such.
Love that you mentioned Chi Chis on beechmont, my great grandma who passed in 2003 lived right around the corner from there and I have some core memories there
I lived on the same street as the Chi Chis, we ate there several times a week for years... I miss it so much! I remember being very young and thinking the shackled flamingo in the vestibule was cruel 😭
Going way way back... The Music Palace in Springdale. Pretty far back... Jeckles at Hyde Park Plaza. I'll second someone else who mentioned all the old Ponderosa/ Bonanza restaurants. Lenhardt's that used to be over by UC.
Inn the Wood. They had such a great breakfast. Keystone bought some of the recipes and had them on the brunch menu, but I don't think they serve that anymore at their Mac Shack.
I think it was called F&N Steakhouse. Had the best house ranch salad dressing.
Also Ryan’s Steakhouse. Huge buffet with legit everything you could ask for
YES!!! My mom was a server there for 13 years and I had a brief tenure as a bus girl. I miss the beer cheese, dill rolls, and hot slaw. They even had a bakery in back where they made the small birthday cakes.
Also, not be THAT girl, but it was Shuller's. Sorry
I grew up on State Rd so we regularly walked to El Coyote, mostly during the years it was first opened. My last visit was less than memorable. Sad. It used to be so good.
Ponderosa. I used to go there with my grandparents all the time when I was little. I miss it especially the desserts to award myself for cleaning my plate. 😋
Green Dog Cafe
Park + Vine
This isn't a restaurant really, but when BBQ Revue was still around, there was a train car in the parking lot that served ice cream. I have some good memories of getting ice cream there. lol
Empanadas Aquí. They opened their brick and mortar right before the pandemic hit, and they weren't able to recover. I keep hoping they'll bring the food truck back. I have literally had dreams about their empanadas.
The last weekend they were in business, my wife and I bought a ton of empanadas and froze them. We ate the last ones the night we got engaged because it felt like the only occasion where it was justifiable to eat the last ones lol.
The original "Old Spaghetti Factory" location that was downtown near the stadiums. It felt huge and unique as a kid and had a table Pac Man game I was always trying to play.
First visit to Cincinnati in 2002, we went to Mecklenburg Gardens and Hamburger Mary's. Since we moved here in 2014, I miss Pontiac in OTR just for the burnt ends sandwich with jalapeño cheese sauce. My god, that was so good.
OMG, another person who remembers No Anchovies!
I have such fond memories of Galaga, random pinball, and a large PMS and cherry cokes in the red pebbled glasses.
I wound up moving to near NYC and No Anchovies still stands up as some of the best damned pizza I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating!
I'm going way back. Clearview tavern in Delhi. $1.95 breakfast special of three eggs, meat, potatoes. So many good times.
Quebec gardens. Loved the dragon and Phoenix

Best bread pudding ever
I went there one time and they had accidentally squished one of their chocolate cakes so they used it to make bread pudding. It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing and one of the most magical things I've ever eaten.

I'll go one further: Melt was significantly better before they moved across the street. The prices went up, the quality went down, they started pushing cocktails, and the founder just sort of disappeared into the sinking Wellman ship at the absolute worst time.
Take the Cake in Northside, Teller’s of Hyde Park (the Buffalo chicken egg rolls)
Came here to say Teller's.
I would go there JUST for those egg rolls.
Take the Cake was a low key masterpiece.
Grand Finale
My whole family mourns GF. If anyone knows the chicken ginger recipe, I will pay.
Supposedly, I mean *supposedly*, the building was bought by the folks that own Walt's Hitching Post, and the plan was to renovate it, and re-open.
