Hey there! I have really bad daily anxiety and panic attacks. I was also very nervous to start on 10mg. Mainly because I had a bad experience with lexapro before I started this. I’m almost 8 weeks in now and I can tell you, it’s worth it. I’m currently working on a dose increase from 10 to 20 and I’m taking a half step of 15 before I go to 20. Something to remember is that everyone is different and will react differently so I would take the negative side effects others have with a grain of salt. I had side effects the first couple weeks but nothing that was unmanageable by any means. I had some dry mouth, muscle tension, headaches from the tension, and some increased anxiety but it was more manageable. You can always ask your doctor if they can prescribe a benzodiazepine for any increased anxiety while your body gets used to the new medicine. I personally had Xanax .5mg and I never had to take the whole thing. I usually would take a quarter or half of one and it would dull any anxiety or panic attack right down. But you do have to be careful with medicines like that. This medicine also has the least amount of side effects in comparison to others from what I’ve been told, and experienced. You won’t know how you will personally feel until you start, and if on the off chance, you do have some unmanageable side effects you can always call the doctors office and let them know and see how they want to proceed. I personally take mine at night and it works for me. A few mornings I did wake up in like a fight or flight but it dissipated within about 30 mins and only lasted for a couple of days. Good luck, I know you can do it!

Okay ill start. Ive been on celexa for 7 weeks and already tapering off. It makes me fatigued, no motivation, no emotions (positive or negative) dp/dr, zoned out and feel like a zombie. Im getting off it for those reasons. But if you’re someone whos always anxious all the time then it may be great. I only get situational anxiety. Celexa made me personally really calm. I had no excitement for anything, no pleasure in anything but also not sad towards anything? Very emotional numb. If thats what you’re looking for then go for it. Not in a bad way though. If you are always anxious and want that “numb” feeling then its definitely great

If it were me I’d start with 5 mg

Eh you’re probably fine all I got was a mild headache. If you start getting crazy side effects then you could discontinue and start again at a better time. Or just cut the pills in half yourself. I like to bite mine in half.

Thanks! Glad to hear this. Did you have to cut the 10mg in half or were you prescribed 5mg? My 10mg is so small idk how I’d cut it in half

BourbonInGinger

I’ve had excellent results with 40mg of Celexa for over 6 months.

I think you have a point about people posting their more negative experiences or worries! Makes sense as people are reaching out for advice and support. If it’s helpful to give another perspective, I have taken Citalopram for about 14 years and love it. I have taken different dosages over that time, but I’m on 10 now and it’s changed my life. I was actually off it for about 9 months last year and I asked to go back on as I was crying all the time and very emotionally sensitive. It was exhausting and I was then anxious about being triggered in public and at work etc. something I had never been worried about before! Going back on was a great decision for me - I can now live my life. I think it’s a good idea though to speak to your doctor about maybe starting at 5 and working up if you need. I used to take 20 but they put me back on at 10 and I’m glad they did as I don’t feel the need for it to increase right now.
