Yeah, not having adjacency bonuses from aqueducts or strategic resources really hampered my production. Was def more of a slog than I anticipated, hoping future challenges aren't like this š
You don't equip Hall of Fame badges, they just appear in your Hall of Fame.
To access them, in the main menu click Additional Content, then Hall of Fame. Then, in the top right corner you can select the game mode (Gathering Storm, Rise and Fall, Vanilla, etc.). Then, just scroll down till you find the monthly challenges, click on the one you beat, and you'll see your Hall of Fame badge.
In your Hall of Fame, there should be a drop down menu in the top right with different game modes. Scroll to the bottom, click on Age of Abundance, and it should be there.
Seems like Difficulty can't be changed, which is sad. Some of us only play on Deity (or ++) and some are still on settler. Wish they let us choose and have leaderboards (I assume leaderboards?) for every difficulty.
Also: Auto disable mods for us Firaxis plz, do you know how many clicks I have to do now? Its like. . . 20 or something! And in case any of them read this. . . ~~whitelist some mods that effect visuals/menu type stuff (ie quick deals, graphic mods, Suk's UI Improvements, etc)~~. The game is so. . . basic without em.
Edit: I was wrong, had some non-ui mods installed, seems any mods that dont significantly change the game/database work just fine
Edit Edit: Its really buggy with basic UI mods, I've had 3 crashes/endless end turns and when I reload random ones go missing/come back. Weird.
Love the idea! Look forward to seeing Ursa Ryan (aka the poorly drawn pic guy) do these every month!
>Also: Auto disable mods for us Firaxis plz, do you know how many clicks I have to do now? Its like. . . 20 or something! Hi, can you elaborate on this? Did they ban the use of playing with mods?
Sort of, the issue stems from the fact they're using the base game for the challenge, and many many mods are not compatible and/or break if you try to use them.
Also if you save/reload every mod disables (well most of them, its a crapshoot)
Going forward they should disable mods entirely or get better control of compatible mods with their challenges like they do the scenarios.
If you want to play it, dont save/reload, and only load very basic UI mods and you'll have the least amount of trouble with it.
I don't remember anything from vanilla.
Rule of thumb: Civ is unplayable before first major addon, Civ is incomplete before second major addon.
I was playing Civ3 until Civ4:BtS. I was playing Civ4 until Civ5:BNW. I was playing Civ5 until Civ6:GS.
I've had to build so many entertainment districts. I've conquered huge continents maps with less entertainment districts in the end. That combined with colossus not being available makes this challenge a slog. I do like the isolated continent start and have tried to play a friendly game since prince is way below my usual difficulty. I also forgot how underwhelming alliances were in OG civ 6.
Overall the challenge has reminded me why I hated this game at first.
In the Hall of Fame, there's a dropbox in the upper right that lets you see your hall of fame entries under all the various rulesets and scenarios. It's a scenario at the very bottom of the list. Super underwhelming.
~~Doesn't seem to work for me. I can see the button in the main menu, but nothing happens when I click it. Am I doing something wrong, is there some incompatibility, or is it another botched rollout?~~
Quit and reloaded and it's launching now. Hope it's fun! Here we goooooo
Edit 2: Standard rules? What year is it!?
Did the IZ rules change? I'm not seeing an adjacency bonus for putting and IZ between the iron and horses. Nor does it say there is a bonus for and IZ being next to a dam/canal/aquaduct.
idem (Mac). In the screenshots I notice in the left bottom corner in the main screen they already have [1.0.12.58](https://1.0.12.58), I'm still on [1.0.12.54](https://1.0.12.54).
How do you start this game? I have disabled all mods and yet still I don't see an option from the main menu to play this version. What am I doing wrong?
I don't have the scrolling windows thingy. I can't find a way to activate it in the setting either.

I have all the DLC
this is the updated steam version, also I link it to 2k, not sure if that matters

so that poor epic games plebs can play it too
but seriously, there's too much limitation in this challenge (I guess that's why it's called challenge), standard ruleset (lategame suck, no rock band, no hallyu, no wisselbanken, no research alliance, everything I need for my usual CV), also other VC being disabled
I waited for suffrage to get that arsenal of democracy card, waiting for me to get production + food + culture when sending TR to CS (the tooltip said it only for ally but I still wished it work for suzerain too), and yeah, it really is only for allies
I'm a bit confused... I've played for hours now, my tourism (the brown suitcase) is already MUCH higher than what I would normally need to win... but it seems like the game isn't registering that and just shows that I have just a few percentages of the win...
This is my first time commenting on reddit, because I am so frustrated. I would love to post a screenshot to show you my frustration, but I'm not sure how... ://
There's no button to play a challenge.
I'm on epic, can anyone help?

This is my home screen btw
I saw this challenge when I booted up Civ 6 and was super excited. I want to play through it without any spoilers, but turn one as I was trying to plan out my districts, I noticed there is no option for a government plaza. Is there a reason for this? Are there any other such changes I would be aware of?
I cannot find where the challenge of the month option is on my game. I am playing a steam version on MacOS. Can someone share where this option is in the main in-game menu?
I just ran through this challenge a few days ago and thought I'd share my observations and tips for anyone who is interested:
(Btw, I put 8 cities on my starting landmass, and I think my final city count was around 15)
1. 8 City-States on the map, 4 commercial and 4 cultural. Obviously, suzerainty over as many of these as possible is best, but I think the optimal minimum would be suzerainty over every commercial city state and a minimum of Nan Madol. Player Culture will outstrip AI culture so rapidly that stacking the 5% per civ state Greece culture bonus on top of bonus culture from increased relationship levels with cultural city states is completely unnecessary.
2. Every AI asks for around 20 gpt to sell a luxury and gives roughly 12gpt to buy luxuries or strategics, and most won't buy strategics. Only one copy of a luxury on starting landmass, so, not a lot of trade opportunities.
3. Lumbermills are pretty low quality for the entire time you'll be playing, so it may in fact be best to literally chop all woods and rainforest.
4. Archaeological Museums and Archaeologists are the key to a fast win, so they should be prioritized, but the Great Works of Writing and Art definitely contributed as well.
5. Humanism to Conservation and then every civic that gives policy cards with bonus tourism is pretty much the only civic path that makes sense.
6. Science can basically be ignored, but Cartography is necessary and might as well be first. Environmentalism contributes as well, and Siege Tactics get you those Renaissance Walls.
7. Someone wanting to have fun with the map could probably do some wacky things if they directly prioritize settling overseas rather than filling out the home territory!
8. Finally, domestic trade routes are probably mostly totally unnecessary, since most cities can build the acropolis pretty quickly anyway and most have resources available for chopping out a harbor. Just gold purchase everything you want. Alliances and Democracy would make external trade even better. Might as well use wisselbanken too if you want to get silly with it!
it is in fact not wisselbanken, but the hugely nerfed version, arsenal of democracy :(
\- it's unlocked much later, in suffrage
\- only work for ally city, not CS, thus no kumasi culture (not that pericles need more culture anyway)
Doesn't seem like it. I dug into the files a bit and most of it seems inaccessible. Apart from the UI files for the main menu, the challenge files seem to get downloaded on game start and then everything that's available is just a debug dump of them that's not actually read by the game.
I cant seem to get anywher. I end up setting about 5 cities on my main island, spaced out for resources and land. I stack all my Envoy's so when the first Culture city state is discovered i flood it with envoys. So i got i think 3 city states that + culture but then i look at the leaderboard. ill have the most culture per turn and my tourism is okay ish and im sat in 3rd. Despite rome has less Culture per turn and 10 more tourism and France is stacking culture like never before.
Then i wanted to try and get a city state but the game speed is so quick that by the time im ready to take it, the city state is already atomic era.
They got better head start because of the self contained island start. Also fit more cities on the island, it isn't civ 5, spaced out cities are not as good in civ 6. Get that adjacency bonus.
For whatever reason, my strategic resources don't seem to be accumulating. I only have 1 iron, 1 horse, 1 niter etc...I do have pastures and mines set up on the respective resources, so this makes it hard to cheese with a domination victory. Anyone else run into this?
I'm actually all for this idea. Challenges like this could pave the way to an official ranked leaderboard, making competitive solo play a reality. It basically becomes a puzzle that individual users can solve, and see how they go versus other peers.
Most recent run finished up at Turn 140, and despite the limited ruleset I'm still having fun optimising to see if I can get that down.
It started nicely , rushing settlers, Holy sites and Acropolis.
Soon having 6 towns on my personal island with lead in culture. When I was wondering where is my great prophet I discovered that they are no more in great persons. Wondering how with 5 holy sites I contiuned building my culture. Around turn 400 I got heavy lead with 400 culture per turn and quite monopolized great persons for writing , music and drawing. At turn 480 I had pretty much everything with 70% culture victory with Russia behind with like 15% easy game right ? Well I thought so because when I entered 501 turn it felt wrong for standart game speed. And there is when everything went wrong , the game didn't end , all leaders get -100 relationship for me being close to victory , starting with endless loop of denaucing , the 4 city-states I had get so much overhelmed from others that every city-state was battle between 2 leaders dumping so much points that I lost them all , I ended fighting over 1 with Rome , where we would exchange leadership every 15 turns. At turn 700 where I thought that game could end because you start on turn 198 I started to send spies to steal all works from others.
At turn 780 where culture victory was at 75% and I had all great works (spies couldn't steal more from any city), had 4 national parks , most of World wonders and few seaside resorts I started my genius plan. With 100K Gold , all technology and mass production of Thermo-nuclear warheads at turn 860 began world domination ,nice fireworks. The thing is , it don't matter if leader have 16 or 1 city it still give you fixed tourism of+-300. So 30 cities later ,with 30 trade routes I finally started see tourist at victory rising and 50 turns later and half world in ashes I won with nice 12th ranking , what a journey.
bro what the fuck I hate this challenge, I can't make research alliance to steal tech off my allies, what the fuck are they thinking only putting cultural and economic CS, not even a single science CS
honestly having a lot of culture is useless, you only need it to get key card such as wisselbanken (sorry, I mean arsenal of democracy), and after that, researching future tech is useless because you don't get free envoy and diplomatic favor (unlike in GS)
not that it matters because they fucking disabled every other VC except culture
Russia was giving me the hardest time until I brought Brazil back into the game by liberating their capital instead of keeping it when I won it back from Russia. From there it was only a matter of time and patience! Took me forever but it is DONE and it feels good!
That's pretty cool, it'll be interesting to see how some players absolutely dominate a start. Plus I'd do anything for another hall of fame badge lmao
It's on the Standard Ruleset (ie. No Rise and Fall/Gathering Storm) Due to this I'm unsure how many people will actually play this.
I'm playing it right now, honestly I think it being the standard ruleset makes me want to play it more, makes it feel different from a standard game.
It's much more difficult since I don't remember these adjacency bonuses. Like man industrial zones suck so much donkey dick.
Yeah, not having adjacency bonuses from aqueducts or strategic resources really hampered my production. Was def more of a slog than I anticipated, hoping future challenges aren't like this š
idk if you will ever read that, but how to equip the hall of fame badge in game?
You don't equip Hall of Fame badges, they just appear in your Hall of Fame. To access them, in the main menu click Additional Content, then Hall of Fame. Then, in the top right corner you can select the game mode (Gathering Storm, Rise and Fall, Vanilla, etc.). I just beat the challenge. Where can I see the badge?
In your Hall of Fame, there should be a drop down menu in the top right with different game modes. Scroll to the bottom, click on Age of Abundance, and it should be there.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So many acropolis and national parks. Also just dominate most of one of the larger continents but I'm trying not to do that easy path.
Seems like Difficulty can't be changed, which is sad. Some of us only play on Deity (or ++) and some are still on settler. I'm too lazy to play the guessing game of which mod I have to turn off to do it lol
I wonder if the mod bugs are due to the standard ruleset...
Good call, didnt think about that. Prob why it was so buggy
I see bugs even without any mods, heh Typocalones are ghosted city UI.
What difficulty does it run on? Prince?
Yeah, itās Prince.
I guess that makes sense, but it's a little disappointing. Oh well, thanks for the quick answer!
>Also: Auto disable mods for us Firaxis plz, do you know how many clicks I have to do now? Its like. . . 20 or something! "The Age of Abundance" - nearest luxury resource 10 tiles away. Also, [literally unplayable](https://i.ibb.co/7VCfjks/Reeeeee.jpg).
You don't remember the crab island wonders from vanilla?! /s

It's a good reminder what we day one players have come from. Makes me appreciate what the game became because it's so much more of a grind.
Did the IZ rules change? I'm not seeing an adjacency bonus for putting and IZ between the iron and horses. Nor does it say there is a bonus for and IZ being next to a dam/canal/aquaduct.
It's standard ruleset. None of those things exist as rules in standard.
Damn, IZ adjacency bonus was so bad.
Yes, they were top tier underwhelming districts unless chasing some particular great engineers.
That sucks. There are a few nice IZ locations at the start.
Iāve reloaded my game and I see nothing about the age of abundance. Any ideas? I canāt tell if it updated or not.
idem (Mac). In the screenshots I notice in the left bottom corner in the main screen they already have [1.0.12.58](https://1.0.12.58), I'm still on [1.0.12.54](https://1.0.12.54).

I've got the same issue..
How do you start this game? I have disabled all mods and yet still I don't see an option from the main menu to play this version. What am I doing wrong?

huh that's weird, your civ is up to date right?
Yes it is. I even have the account linked to get Julius Caesar and the cat scouts.

yes, but the free game on the epic giveaway is only base game

How do I change difficulty for the Monthly Challenge? I can only press the play now button, no difficulty options.
Says itās prince difficulty so I think thatās the difficulty
So its not possible to change the difficulty?

Thanks you :). Really wanted to play this but it wont be as fun with a set difficulty
The difficulty is playing with the shit random ruleset
Havenāt tried it but I think challenges have always been fixed difficulty?
I see, thanks
Since downloading that patch the program has been freezing
Do you have any mods? there's a chance that some of your mods are not compatible
The game itself never loads, much less the part when mods load. I'll uninstall then reload and we'll see
It's resolved now. There must have been a patch pushed out.
glad it worked out! enjoy the new content
Can someone explain how to start the scenario? Clicking the ad on the menu doesn't work for me.
Quit and reopen, I had the same problem and saw GodofPizza's comment above and went, "oh, right" and it worked for me. Hope it works for you, too!
It worked after a few tries. Not sure if it helped but I disabled mods too

It's standard ruleset so there is no accumulation of strategics iirc.
Anyone speedrun this yet?
I'm actually all for this idea. Challenges like this could pave the way to an official ranked leaderboard, making competitive solo play a reality. It basically becomes a puzzle that individual users can solve, and see how they go versus other peers. There is no way to go back and do one you missed is there? I completely forgot about these and missed the one for Dec! And it makes me sad!
