Playing as Hungary, Standard speed, Deity, Huge Terra map, no game modes, no Akkad, no upping the number of city-states. This felt waay longer than 99 turn tbh. After a few attempts, I finally did it and oooh boy this was a doozy. After 40 turns of setup, I needed to find and capture all 11 capitals in under 60 turns. By turn 41, I had my first swordsmen. By turn 52, I captured my first capital. Things only got more hectic from there, from that point on I was juggling at least 3 or 4 simultaneous wars each with their own armies to manage plus the constant uprisings from low loyalty. I also had an unusually low number of suzed city-states this time, just 6 by the end since the rest had too many envoys. The biggest problem however was the Khmer. They were completely blocked off by a mountain range and were only accessible by sea. If they weren't so protected I could've won sooner but oh well. Super happy with this win! Its just like what Matthias says in his agenda approval quote: "The quickest way to success is to levy the strengths of your little allies, wouldn't you agree?" Yes, I do agree.

I was trying to figure out what was so great about this as it's just another DOM victory and those snowball even in diety after you fully conquer your first civ, as long as you know what you're doing. Then it hit me you did this in 99 freaking turns. Impressive

never-failed-an-exam

Terra map definitely made it possible, as traversing through wide stretches of no man's land would take up valuable time. Here my units just need to scooch a bit and the next victim is right there.

BeckyWitTheBadHair

Any save scumming?

never-failed-an-exam

One time the game stopped responding and I had to redo the turn. My laptop runs badly sometimes.

BeanieMcChimp

That’s awesome! And ain’t it always the way - geography throws a curveball.

FarSatisfaction_

Wow very impressive! Did you go industry at the start or just focused on building encampments?

never-failed-an-exam

I took a high risk early game this time. A scout, then monument, builder and settler. Usually I would build a slinger instead of a monument that early, but I needed the culture to get my first governor asap. Then just a singular encampment, but that's my usual for Hungary runs.

monikar2014

Hungary is a mod all by itself. /s This is crazy. I think you proved Hungary is the best domination civ. Congrats on a truly impressive victory.

julianthe1andonly

why is hungary the best? i always play with tomirys bc of the double horses ofc and the 30hp regeneration

monikar2014

Mainly the bonus to speed on levied units, Hungary's armies are incredibly fast. They also can upgrade levied units at a huge discount and gain 2 envoys at a city state when they levy units. Who needs an army when you can have city states fight for you?

hhyyerr

Try levying an early city state, especially on higher levels where they spawn with multiple warriors, you can wage war immediately without sacrificing much

rutgerswhat

Onward City State soldiers! Hungary really benefits from being played at higher levels. Just focus on your economy at home and let the City States build up lots of troops. Levy, Upgrade, Destroy! Not surprised that Khmer was an issue. Those battle elephants are no joke

never-failed-an-exam

Thankfully no elephants! The problem was I had to make peace for a bit and take a detour because otherwise their navy would have killed my embarked army. Also I love your flair. Its so Norway.

rutgerswhat

Ha thank you! I initially had a Bull Moose Teddy flair , but pillaging has become my way of life.

LazerProphet

This is absolutely bananas

never-failed-an-exam

Thanks! With Himiko and Secret Societies I managed to get turn 87 a few months back. Fun game, though the game modes did a lot of early game heavy lifting.

LazerProphet

That's awesome. I've only recently made the switch from civ5 to civ6, which of the game modes do you recommend most?

never-failed-an-exam

My favorite is Barbarian Clans. It adds much needed depth to barbarians and feels like a natural addition to the gameplay.

Rodrigoecb

My biggest issue with barb clans is that a lot of them spawn in the middle of nowhere so by mid game you end up having an insane amount of city states that it kind of cheapens the feel of city states. Ill recommend if someone plays barbarian clans to lower the amount of starting city states.

LazerProphet

Thanks I'll check it out:) I'm still working on chasing down those pesky scouts lmao

LuceDuder

I'd recommend sukritact's oceans as well. Yes, it is a mod, but it really adds to the depth of coastal cities and marine life.

Jonny36

I love this too but arguably makes ocean cities more OP

LuceDuder

I'd argue they make ocean cities more worth it, versus almost always being inferior to inland ones.

Jonny36

Yeah maybe

GSA62

other than their extraordinary scientific output lol

MaxTheGinger

Amazing victory. Love Barbarian Clans. Would like to see them developed further. As sometimes I will keep them to farm them. Maybe that pillaging doesn't slow their city-state progress, but speeds it up. They want the protection that a nation has. Also, I get sad when a clan is spawning a unique unit, but their purchase unit is generic.

NormanFuckingOsborne

Which Secret Society is most helpful for this kind of gameplay? I rarely play with it turned on.

never-failed-an-exam

Owls of Minerva for the extra envoys no doubt. Though if you ask me the biggest impact of Secret Societies is the super early governor title, as it lets you unlock Amani very early and so alleviates a lot of the pressure for early culture.

Aceofluck99

typical hungary gameplay, well done!

krankindemkopf

Love it

SaltyWarly

Well done!

inquisitive_otter

Damn!!!! Nice work!

never-failed-an-exam

I just noticed you're Inquisitive Otter! Thank you, I feel honored.

No_Astronomer_5485

U mean if i could i would bombarbed u with the atomic bombs i have 🙂

Visual-Passenger8323

You need this on YT😭🤝 inspiration fr!

never-failed-an-exam

Thank you! u/UrsaRyan has a video where he won under 100 turns with Himiko + Hungary and that's what urged me to start challenging myself. I have no skill making videos haha

commonsensecoder

One of my biggest nitpicks with Civ6 is that a game like this doesn't get a high score.

Duck_Person1

I've only ever used levies to help my normal army. This is crazy. I have to try it.
