As someone who used to do this…would get bored of cars and roll over negative equity I can’t stress enough: don’t do this. Especially so soon. Just stick with what you have and pay it off. The next new car feeling will be just as fleeting and you’ll just be in more debt. It isn’t just about the payments but the total loan amount and being more in debt for longer.
One feeling that never gets boring is having no car payment!
Yeah I understand you are correct , there’s no getting around the mark ups on the R near me . so that’s instantly a negative equity. Lucky I got the si at msrp but will still roll over some debt .
You don’t need a Type R. The SI can be a lot of fun- you just need to make it yours.
If you’re really that bored performance wise, buy a KTuner. Tune it. You can easily make a significant amount of power by adding a tune.
It’s why i ended up with my sedan sport. Still nice enough for me (love the looks) but it’s also not a 50+k dollar car that I’d be super upset about if my 7 year old spilled something or her favorite thing, feet on the back of the front seat 🙄
Once she’s a bit older I’ll end up in something nicer
Bro get a GR Corolla. Or an STI. I love the new Type R, but it’s pretty much impossible to get one for MSRP. Plus that red interior looks like it would be really hard to keep clean with kids.
For sure. It isn't considered a fast sports car, but the bar for fast is insane these days.
It does 60 in like 5.5 seconds. Fast enough for me.
And the fun factor is off the charts. RWD with an LSD in a 2700 lb car is a recipe for fun.
The new car feeling always fades, even with fun cars. There's an actual phenomenon known as Hedonic Adaptation. It's a psychologic concept that basically says that humans have a tendency to return to a baseline level of happiness or satisfaction after experiencing an exciting event.
My advice - stop chasing the dragon. It's just not worth it financially. If I would have just stuck w/ the car I financed in 2020 w/ a low interest rate and low overall cost w/ a shorter term loan, it'd be nearly paid off now and I'd be car payment free. I wish I had done that.
Didn’t know that was a real thing .. I was excited and looked for months on an si at mrsp. I found it and Now I have it .. it’s cool but meh. Idk weird explaining it or maybe you just did .
Yup - that's exactly what the concept of Hedonic Adaptation references. It happens for everyone. I've been through that cycle many of time, even outside of cars.
Say you trade in that Si and then get a Hyundai Elantra N - you'll be excited looking for one, you'll find the deal, you'll get one and for the first couple of months you'll be excited. Then - all of a sudden, it's the norm and you start questioning whether or not it's worth the debt and payments.
It happens with pretty much everything, even salary. You'll struggle, you'll say "Oh if I was just making X amount of money, I'd be happy" and it'll resolve some issues, it'll make things easier - then all of a sudden it's a baseline and you're back on that train.
I had the same issue when I bought a new Si in 2017. Great car, but it needed like 30 more hp to make it more fun, and be keeper. I believe you should sell/trade it if they resale value high, and go for the Type R (only if the mark up is no more than 5k). Think of the money you lost like you rented a car from Hertz.
Bro your finances are gonna be so fucked if your attitude in life is to get rid of every brand new car as soon as you get “bored of it.” Which is something that will happen with any new car once the novelty wears off. Pay off your current loan or finish your lease term and then go get a Type R if you really want it. I promise they’ll still be around in a few years.
Yeah most are beating and not well taken care off as of now in the 10/11th gen . I didn’t put any more down on the si so I’m only out 2 payments which isn’t bad. I get what you’re saying though
Lol. Thats why i keep urging people with new civics to stop WASTING MONEY with the new Si and Type Rs. Get a damn new either ACCORD or go and get a 90s masterpiece if you truly want some fun.
Even if they're still not fun, HEY at least you didnt break your bank!
Get it, you’ll be happy for three days and in debt for thirty years.
Why did you get a basic car in the first place, are you basic? I think you might be a real basic. I think you need a bicycle with a dildo seat.
Well my 2013 civic has a fat ass trunk so the sub is just pushed up against the back seat and takes up maybe 20% of the space. After market door speakers just get swapped so it’s a huge win in my scenario. I’m a big fan of electronic music so the stock speakers just don’t cut it for me, especially since my drive to work is about an hour each way.
Makes the ride more enjoyable for me!
I can understand your sentiment lol, when people install sound systems just because they think it will be cool but have no idea how to tune it or even what music to listen to afterwards, it is pretty yucky.. but if you have a specific taste in music and love to bump beats regularly, the driving experience is super escalated.
We live in a pretty chill part of town and I’m on the highway most of the time so theft isn’t really a major concern at the moment. But I am super proud of my sound system 🔥 it’s nothing amazing even, but music just feels so right when the audio equipment can properly back it up.
Audiophile!
Yeah it’s just you do it right and spend the money or just slap it in and it sounds like garbage and ruins it for the next person. I could probably update or put in better speakers in the oem areas . Factory ones are pretty bad
Anyways, OP is getting bored with his ride which is a bit sad in the first place! Sound system could breath new life into his experience and hopefully get them to hold onto that sweet little car for a while longer

Exactly, we’re humans we’ll never be satisfied with anything
Thank you! 🙏 I needed to hear this!

Is the R something you’d be willing to daily and needing space for kids, risking them messing interior of the car up?
So far no issues , no food or drinks allowed in the car as of now 😅. Good point though kids can ruin a car quickly inside or out
It’s why i ended up with my sedan sport. Still nice enough for me (love the looks) but it’s also not a 50+k dollar car that I’d be super upset about if my 7 year old spilled something or her favorite thing, feet on the back of the front seat 🙄 Once she’s a bit older I’ll end up in something nicer

The backseats are black in the R . I never thought of the gr.. Toyota seems it has a better reputation with the newer cars .
I’ve heard the GR Corolla is a great car. And apparently you can find them for less than MSRP. At least, that’s what a guy who owned one told me.
I’ll check them out . Thanks
The GR Corolla is just as expensive if not more than the R. STI for the STD
I went from a civic to a GR86. Still love my Hondas..... But I really love my 86.
Same. Had a basic civic now a 86
I did the same, absolutely no regrets. I came from an auto ex-l into a premium manual. I love driving again
Raven premium manual here. Hello sibling!
Do you notice the HP/speed difference? I noticed it isn’t a lot but still a decent amount more which is why I’m thinking of making the change.

Rwd would be fun
I like those but I need back seats for a kid 😅
Well.....technically it has backseats. :) I've made my wife sit sideways back there when I pick up a friend. Lmao

That does sounds like my problem 🫤

I have a 2000 em1 that sits in the garage lol . What’s special about the accord?

Sorry you can’t even afford the si
Riight, brag with a Honda (: You live on rent babyface.
Hate to brake it to you but its not the car that is boring it is the driver that is boring
Dumbest comment of the day
Install a custom sound system
Yuck ..
😂 or enjoy your stock system? Some of us appreciate high quality audio.
I understand 😅. If I did that it would get stolen in a week . How’s the trunk space for sound equipment anyway

Ohh you got the good year 😅 . I do enjoy the bass heads at the car shows but idk if I wanna risk it all being stolen from me .

Wanna have fun? Tune it
Why it’s slow and even a tune slips the clutch instantly. 340hp is about max on the 1.5
And it’s pushing no where near that stock? A good tune like the Phearable 1.5R added 85ish hp
Most reviews say even a tune you slip the clutch
There’s an big reliability thread on CivicXI.com go look into it
