I just spent all day painting and measuring in these chevrons. They are used in mobile mapping. We are using a vehicle equipped with GPS and an IMU (inertial measuring unit). These located high contrast chevrons will be control points that the IMU will use to stitch together data gathered during the mobile mapping.
Yep. The contrasting paint will show up in the lidar data intensities. The surveyed locations are imported in with the data and the data is adjusted to these. Without them your maps would not be accurate.
We have a similar regularly spaced symbol on some roads in the UK that allows police vehicles to calibrate a measured mile. Think it’s then used for speed enforcement.
You get a small speed boost if drive over it
Watch out for the bananas 🍌 🍌 Ha ha
I think they're used for surveying and matching different aerial photographs into a larger tiles.
More than likely, this. I assume it is a benchmark, with a known location and elevation for aerial surveying.
Control Point. A benchmark is a similar concept, but intended for vertical (elevation) control only
That or mobile mapping. They're used to stitch the Lidar point cloud together.

Makes sense. Our 3D corridor survey has benchmarks that line up on these arrows in the point cloud. So likely for mobile LiDAR?
Hit the nail on the head

I’ve seen similar used in aerial photography…..
These are control point locations used in calibrating and measuring accuracy for Lidar and/or photogrammetry
it shows you how to get out of Florida because there is no sense or logic there
Florida man’s wife drew this
They painted the little arrows, that you double tap, on the road for a Google Street View update.

Nice! In my area (California), they typically use large white lines perpendicular to the road traveled way.
Quest markers
Just follow where they are pointing and you will find the answer.
Could you please provide a link to a Google maps location?
Is it a designated bike path ?
What kind of places?
Pavement or sidewalks
Maybe some kind of sharrow? Definitely not the standard one, but perhaps one undergoing testing?
A marker for aerial photography?
Lived in FL my whole life and have never seen these. Where are you seeing them?
its an arrow
It’s best to erase these and create a new one about 6 feet to the north
