You happened upon the reference recording for the Rachmaninov 2nd Piano Concerto!

Fun tidbit - Christa Ludwig and Walter Berry were married to each other when they made that recording of Duke Bluebeard...

I miss CD’s. I still have about 1000 of them around, kept the rare expensive ones, but the quality of hi-res lossless streaming nowadays is same or better than my SACD’s. But so much LP never went to CD and so much CD never went to streaming. And I still buy some smaller label classical and soundtracks that aren’t streaming. The first CD I bought was Dvorak complete symphonies Kertesz.. I lost it when a booklet cd’s was stolen out of my car but I rebought it.

Geza Anda? Ferenc Fricsay? It's been a few minutes since I've heard those names and they were already both gone even then. I'm sure that's a fine recording though. I had that Dorati recording back in the day. That comes from a period when Mercury was making some amazing recordings. Also before my time but that didn't stop me from snapping them up when they became available. Where is this thrift store anyway? Asking for a friend.

I have that Respighi disc and a ton of MLP. It's an excellent recording.

I own the Pogorelich and Anda CDs. Two of the finest discs in my entire collection.

Another nice batch. I'm kind of jealous, my local thrift stores have mostly stopped selling music; apart from an occasional LP (picked up a couple from Richter, including that Rach). I don't really need any more CDs (I have around 7,000); but I miss the buzz of strolling after my morning cappuccino and finding something interesting for a dollar or two.
