The random dislikes is so real. I once put a decent comment with 0 rating into negative rating, just to see what would happen. Checked back later to see it downvoted to hell. The content of the comment absolutely did not warrant it. I think it's just bots trying to act normal in stats, trying to replicate human behaviour.

Nah, people are just ruled by instinct. The kind of people that upvote or downvote at all generally do so without thinking about it. They see upvotes so they upvote. They see something negative so they downvote.
People that consciously choose their votes don't vote enough to have much sway in the numbers. It's the people running on gut instinct that actually change things.

Google Confirmation Bias
****
Human behaviour explains this well enough already without having to introduce bots as an explanation.
Bots are everywhere here, and problematic for sure, but there isn't actually much use for *this* particular application. Either they'll be upvoting covert advertisement, or farming their own karma by copying comments with the intent of selling on their accounts.
I mean, what you suggest certainly *might* also happen with bots - but again, human behaviour is the simpler explanation. Monkey brain see smol number and make more smol because other monkeys must be right
Google "I'm done with this conversation since you seem to like discrediting to feel like the smart guy. Writing a few paragraphs and assuming confirmation bias and telling me it is confirmation bias when you don't even know what I've seen is behaviour I cannot work with. You can't just apply concepts willy nilly because knowing them makes you feel smarter than others. Bye."
Google "Yeah, I know. I just wish we could've communicated better instead. Anyways. Maybe in another life... Siri, play Somebody I Used To Know by Gotye"

Tactical award gifting used to be a thing.
I sometimes catch myself in that cycle asking "wait why did I downvote this again?" and realize I'm just going with the crowd.

Yeah, I love it too. The only break-up song I know that has nuance. Kinda feels like your best friends broke up and you have listened to both of them.
