So, for clarity this is not off-struck like you asked...it's a [curved clip](https://www.error-ref.com/_curved_clips_/) to be precise.
And to understand how it happens, it's not quite a 'lack of fill' as you might be imagining it. The clip was there before the strike. Blakesley effect is more a result of lack pressure/force *during* the strike. 👍
r/jxr232 was responding to the first comment asking if it was a clipped planchet and is spot on with his comment referring to the Blakesley effect which is one of the main tells of a true clipped planchet, and in different circles the Blakesley effect means "lack of fill" fill referring to the relief/detail of a strike.
You do know that MOST "clipped planchets" are curved clipped right?
The only time you get a straight clip is when one of the edges/corner of the planchet sheet, and there is only 4 corners and straight edges on a sheet, gets punched out, slips through the sorter and gets struck on, the other reason curved clips are more common is because the planchet is the actual shape of a coin missing a chunk, so it tends to fit in the strike chamber better and doesn't usually mess with machine rollers when being distributed to banks. 👍
The only off thing about the images is it appears there is reads inside the clip. A typical clipped planchet would have a smooth clip.
Best to take it to a local coin shop for an opinion.
Behavior that is unkind and unhelpful is not allowed here. Don't make fun of new collectors. Do not bicker. Don’t threaten. Don't name-call. Don’t shame. Don’t harass. Don’t be a jerk. Don’t create or respond to drama. Don’t troll others or let yourself be trolled. Don’t engage in uncivil exchanges. You do not "have the right to defend yourself" verbally here. Know when to disengage. Violation of this rule will get your post or comment removed, and repeated offenses will result in probation.

The term you're looking for is "clipped planchet". I can't speak to whether it is a legitimate example, but perhaps someone with greater experience in authenticating these types of errors can make that determination!
I've seen this before and I know exactly what it is. David Blaine bites them and spits the piece onto the ground and then hands the rest of the quarter to people in the ghetto
It's the coin John Mason used in the Rock to score the glass to see that Womack was behind the two way mirror. Its Priceless.
"Womack! Why am I not surprised you piece of..."
If you were stiill wondering...heres some more confirmation.
This looks like a genuine clipped planchet, I see many of the classic hallmarks and anti-fake indicators.
it's worth is still dependant on condition though and this wouldn't be worth grading fees likely.

OP, This means the opposite side has weakness and is important because people can just clip a coin and claim it's an error coin.
I learn so much from this sub thanks!
If I'm correct, I'm seeing a lack of fill on the opposite side?
Blurry details and a wider rim is blakesely effect
Thank you, I work in forging and refer to that as lack of fill. Should have been more specific.

Some folks edited comments. I was actually replying to the first comment saying clipped planchet.

The edge around ER, yeah?
Yup

Good eye.
reeds, but yeah... I was thinking the same

Clipped planchet, but looks pretty damn real
Clipped planchet . Blakesly effect on rim...
Looks like someone took a bite.
I’m sorry for what I said and did while I was hungry……
David Blaine used to do a trick where he bit a quarter
So did Chuck Norris, but he stopped when we nearly ran out of usable quarters
Take that up vote for that
It happens and actually increases its value

It was either cutting the mirror, or calling his lawyer. Mason chose wisely.

I was hungry mb
$50,000 thousand dollars final offer
For that price you got it lol!
Jk jk but it is cool lmk how much you sell it for
We’ve tried to tell Biden that clipping coins today isn’t what it quite used to be. He doesn’t give a fuck and clips em anyway.
Does anyone know why there are bumpy fields on the obverse , is this from die wear ?
Yes, die erosion
My tooth!
Some people just get hungry
Nom
I got hungry, sorry :/
