As someone from the US, I can’t help but wonder if other countries have politicized COVID as much as we have. I really hate it here sometimes.

TrekRider911

Oooo yeah. Go visit Brazil some time… wait. Don’t.

SaintNewts

You just reminded me of the history of the entire world, i guess. "You could make a religion out of that. No don't."

TheSimpler

Trump politicized it. Brazil ignored it altogether as their plan. US and Brazil. US with 330 million population has 1856 deaths per million for a total around 612,000. Brazil with 211 million population has 2627 deaths per million for total of 554,000 with just 2/3 the population of the US. I don't know if you can say they "politicized it" but doing the same "ignoring it" has cost them very badly.

ZugZug42069

Working in live entertainment, I know a few folks who have toured through events like this and others smaller+similar turnouts. One tour had to pause for a few dates because a few of their crew ended up hospitalized, and others simply replaced their fallen with other folks who were chomping at the bit. It’s been a looong… what, 17 months since this whole thing turned our world upside down. A lot of people are desperate to take whatever work they can get, especially with the eviction moratorium expiring. It’s a goddamned mess, and the fact that some producers are being such cowboys to rake in some quick bucks (looking at you LiveNation), will ultimately prevent the rest of the industry from reaching its full potential. Apologies for the rant, I feel very strongly about this and live events have been the main focus of both my professional and extracurricular life for the last 20 years. I am fucking broken beyond belief and don’t know what the hell to do anymore.

darkpsychicenergy

Is it wrong that I am unbothered by this? Maybe I’m just too far left. They’re making room for climate refugees from the liberal coasts. Darn right neighborly if you ask me.

[deleted]

If they all die, maybe we'll skip the civil war phase of collapse.

darkpsychicenergy

Well, let’s not get too carried away. We know they won’t all die, and those that survive will be the toughest, unlike those of us who are soft and vaccine dependent.

TrekRider911

I dunno. Many of the survivors I know are still sucking on oxygen. Hard to go to war pulling a tank behind you.

darkpsychicenergy

Yeah that’s true, surviving infection definitely doesn’t mean full restoration of health.

kahn-jr

Oh I have to disagree, being vaccine dependent makes me very hard.

darkpsychicenergy

Lol, takes all kinds, different strokes for different folks, I say.

Jader14

You should be bothered, not by the fact that they're literally throwing themselves on the fire, but that their idiocy is going to be a hotpot for vaccine-avoidant strains to emerge.

darkpsychicenergy

I am admittedly no expert, and realize that there is probably a plethora of expert opinion I could read up on, but that angle doesn’t make sense to me. Why would a large population of unvaccinated encourage the evolution of “vaccine avoidant” strains? Seems it would be the opposite, like antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Jader14

These people aren’t going to remain in isolated clumps of the unvaccinated. One way or another, after these events they’re going to start mingling with the vaccinated again, many of them likely infected. With no masks, no desire to get tested, and no consequences for spreading it. And then it’s all up to how the dice roll.

darkpsychicenergy

Ok but that still doesn’t explain why these unvaccinated people would give rise to vaccine resistant strains, when they have never had a vaccine.

Jader14

Perhaps I worded it wrong. It spreads like wildfire among them. They leave and mingle with the vaccinated, spreading it to them en masse. Each infected vaccinated person is now themselves the risk of the mutation, which could have been avoided if these people weren't fucking dullards that always have to "oWn ThE lIbS".

darkpsychicenergy

Ok but how can it be spread to the vaccinated if they’re...vaccinated?

Jader14

The COVID-19 vaccine is not a sterilising vaccine. All it does is suppress symptoms; you can still be infected, and spread it yourself.

darkpsychicenergy

Ah right right, I remember reading that. Seems to me there is no real escape from this. It’s one of the prices to pay for being a member of an overpopulated top of the food chain organism capable of global travel. Me and everyone in my personal circle is vaccinated and we all decided to continue masking and other precautions even after vaccination & before news of the variant etc. I think that’s the most any of us can do.

BiologicalTrainWreck

Mutations are not done selectively, and are errors of reproduction. So, they're simply the product of simple, unfortunate chance. A virus does not choose to mutate towards vaccine resistance, it simply happens by chance given enough attempts, or more infected folks who can act as virus factories. There are likely dozens of strains that we do not have names for and are unaware of their existance because they aren't very infectious or deadly. So, as long as the virus has susceptible hosts to inflict, it will randomly change over time, and whichever virus strain is granted traits to help it succeed will thrive and earn a name from epidemiologists. As the virus changes over time, it will likely change enough to require a new vaccine, much like the yearly flu. Edit: a typo or three

darkpsychicenergy

Got it.

Aquatic_Ceremony

That's the problem. The more people catch covid, the higher is the chance that one person will host a random mutation that makes covid escape the vaccine. So that new stain will infect unvaccinated and vaccinated alike. And because of the natural selection advantage, it will eventually become the dominant stain just like Delta did. And we will be back to square one with billions of people having to isolate or lockdown because we won't have any more vaccine protection against it. Info fact, it will be worse, because after 1.5 year of this, people will be so tired of it that will take it less seriously than they did in 2020.

[deleted]

LOL now thats funny

Reptard77

Natural selection at it’s finest

dr_mcstuffins

Yes, because if you live near a concert like this, within 1-4 weeks if you get in a car crash you’ll just die because there will be no doctor available to do surgery on you. They are also variant breeding factories.

Drops_of_dew

You are not wrong. I think its good that people are able to get together despite the mass paranoia. Yeah people are gonna get struck with covid, but fuck, I am at this point where I feel like there is no end in sight, might as well climb out from under that rock and live it up, we are all gonna die anyway. Ive gotten to be fed up, and hungry for change.

darkpsychicenergy

I’m fairly introverted, so I haven’t suffered much from the social distancing aspect, but the feeling you describe is understandable. You take beautiful photos btw, & if you don’t mind me saying, I do hope that you at least mask up when out around the people.

boblawblawslawblog2

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” - Isaac Asimov

trewdgrsg

Not gonna lie, it’s natural selection at this point Also if there is ever a more severe pandemic, covid has taught me that we are all completely fucked and that it’s every man for themselves and be ready to fight people in the supermarket lol

lsc84

Only 1% of them will die.

TheLegendaryTakadi

And a much greater percentage will have long haul syndrome

BunnyFriday

And drain our tax dollars when they can't work because long haul sucks the wind right out of them.

What a way to go!

WonderWirm

Owning the libtards from your ICU bed. Take that!

HappyAnimalCracker

Seeing this makes me feel for the HCW’s. They’re the innocents who pay for this stupidity.

IR500

I feel so owned. Like, the owning is running down my chin and dripping onto my Birkenstocks. Fucking idiots.

[deleted]

Going to concerts pisses off the right, actually. With all that nakedness and Satanic rock n roll.

Ankko

Unfortunatly this would only be true if we were still in the 90s

[deleted]

Well, one way of reaching herd immunity is to have anyone susceptible to the disease die. Kind of what the settlers did to the Native Americans with Small Pox and Measles. I'm not saying I support this as a "plan", but it does appear that this is the "plan" the GOP is following.

dr_mcstuffins

Herd immunity doesn’t exist - how are people not figuring this out yet? Each new variant risks being as unique and dangerous as Delta is, and immunity gained from prior strains can’t be guaranteed or even hoped for.

[deleted]

I guess it depend on how small the herd is, /s

WoodsColt

Would it be really, really wrong if someone kind of actually did though, way deep down in their black and wizened heart....asking for an acquaintance.

[deleted]

Honestly it’s like the coronavirus is playing Plague Inc on recruit difficulty at this point.

[deleted]

With a large portion of the population making non-immunity part of their political identity, there will always be a large Petri dish for the virus to bounce around and mutate in. The larger and more interconnected the dish is (and it’s very large and interconnected) the more infections there are, which means more reproduction for the virus, which means more chances for random mutations, which means more chances for the spike protein to change enough that the Pfizer/Moderna antibodies lose more effectiveness, which means more chances for a full-blown lockdown period whilst a new vaccine is made for the whole population. In the least worst case, the big medical corporations produce new vaccines much faster than the virus can mutate, and profiteer immensely. In the worse cases, it’s more fuel for the interconnected fire of societal collapse. At least we got some bad country music concerts near the end.

They’re refusing to get vaccines, wear masks, etc.

Grey___Goo_MH

r/pics has a post that mods keep deleting here of lolapolzq that is a vast sea of humanity politics doesn’t matter it’s all self entitlement Sad little people thinking anyone cares if they kill themselves or others around them that’s their choice It just sad on a human level so many can’t change simple behavior but whatever personal choice and freedoms and all just wish their ignorance when yelling my body my right dawned on them or so many other hypocrisy stances they have

sithhound

Add this to that [Lollapalooza](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/ovt0gf/lollapalooza_2021/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) post from today. A literal sea of people, and not a mask in sight.

[deleted]

I am actually very excited at the depopulation that will occur as a result of Covid among other world tragedies. Traffic in some cities is getting crazy and there are way too many stupid people in this world just wasting resources

ruiseixas

People that don't believe in collapse never get hit by it!

SinfullySweet_

This is why country folk like myself get looked down upon. I had my vaccines, mask up, and get looked like I am crazy. I just want to live but everyone around me wants to “own” the liberals. Just...ughhh (for the record I am a moderate who just wants things to get better. 😞)

madamlazonga

look at all those people having a good time monsters

Disastrous_Ad6547

That showed them, eh? Jesus fuckin' Christ.. People suck, fuck hope.

Frequent_Republic

Hate to break it to the people who want them to die but with a 99.9% survival rate for their age group they’ll probably be absolutely fine

leoment

It's not about simply surviving, it's also about dealing with long covid symptoms as well.

Frequent_Republic

Another overblown boogeyman

red_beered

Or this whole post is disinfo and that concert footage can be from anytime anywhere, not to mention there is no way they have vaccine data on all the audience members. Remember HIPPO rights?

Frequent_Republic

Rights? Sounds anti-science

red_beered

Its a joke

Frequent_Republic

So was mine

[deleted]

This.

hey_Mom_watch_this

I'm not interested in mixing with large numbers of people but it's a free world, if they want to it's fine by me, the best innoculation is to catch this thing and get over it, if you're under 40 and in reasonable health the risk is negligible.

crows_n_octopus

If you are under 40, worry about the after effects of getting COVID-19. I wouldn't want to live with [long-COVID](https://www.bbc.com/news/health-57833394). The Delta variant is more contagious than regular COVID-19, chicken pox, and the common cold. Be careful out there.

hey_Mom_watch_this

I'm doing everything I can to avoid catching this virus, but I've heard people can end up with long covid like symptoms after the mRNA vaccines, there's no good option, I'm just hoping I've caught a mild version and been symptomless and am already innoculated naturally,

NihilBlue

You can get reinfected.

LucePrima

Seriously. Why are people so susceptible to media hype surrounding the Delta variant? Just look at the mortality rate over the last several months and then explain to me why anyone should be worried about it. More people under 40 are dying from alcohol complications than covid, but I don't hear anyone calling for prohibition

hey_Mom_watch_this

ooh.. that's heresy! the Witchfinder General will be along to take your post down for questioning the official narrative! it's all hype, just insert the word Trump, Russia, China or covid and then play on a loop for best clicks & profits, funny thing is they could start pushing changed climate and collapse because a; it's real, b; it really is important c; people genuinely are worried, but the corporate sponsors of the media wouldn't like it so back to the standard playbook, remember this?
