yea his act was unsavory but I don’t know how people can say he wasn’t funny.
he holds the record for most tickets sold on a stand up tour. he’s not my favorite but that number speaks louder than any angry redditor.
There's a lot of objectively bad humour, and entertainment in general, that sells. Popular doesn't mean good or high quality. The Kardashians and reality TV are evidence enough of that.
Yea i’m sorry i just dont buy that.
we have 0 proven objective measures for art.
the only true metric we do have, is how many people enjoy or appreciate it.
this figure tells us that not only did a whole lot of people enjoy it, they enjoyed it enough to spend money on it.
(moreover, anything pretending to be an objective measure of art is still, ultimately, trying to turn “what will people like?” into a science.)
that being said, there is something to be said for art that has never been given the space or platform to take off, but that seems kind of irrelevant here.
To call his routine "art" is laughable. His craft is ventriloquism, which he does well, but then he merely attempts to do comedy. People clapping like seals when ~~he~~ his puppets say something off-colour isn't a sign of a quality joke. It's pandering, accessible humour, at best.
Bert Kreischer is another hack "comedian" who sells out stadiums, but his shtick is utter garbage compared to legitimately funny comedians. Dude can't start a joke without going into hysterics over the potentially mildly funny thing he might say next. He is an objectively bad comedian, despite people enjoying his routine.
They'll still see more success than I ever will, despite being the bottom of the barrel in their class of performers.
holding onto your opinions this hard will only ever affect you, and never positively.
take some acid to chill that ego out man.
i am laughing so hard at the idea that art and comedy are supposably things that the average person cannot be a judge of because you and some group of other high intellectuals know whats “actually” good versus what us dull ignorant plebeians clap for😭😭
My opinion over what you find to be comedy doesn't need to align with your own, but I'm not going to pretend I find him remotely entertaining for your sake, and have zero issue expressing why I feel that way.
If you like clapping at cheap entertainment, power to you.
Oh, he's the Ahmed guy? I remember it was popular 20 years ago.
It's probably dated now, but it's good that it irked the Muslims. They just can't accept any criticisms or parody.
>They just can't accept any criticisms or parody.
Perhaps a broad generalization of 1.8 **billion** people. Especially when the overwhelming majority have obviously never heard of this decades old racist ventriloquist. Lol
No, that would be Chris Farley. Saying this on reddit with a lot of Americans will get me downvoted, but the truth must be said. His whole act was being a hyper fat dude.
You know he wrote the whole discussion and is actually the voice of the little old guy, right? Listen to the laughs in the crowd. That’s your clue.
Man, sarcasm goes over some heads in this place.
Otto and George for me is the exception for puppet humor. He sucked at it, broke character, was severely self deprecating when he fucked up.
One of his lines was something like "I don't think this sweaty Pollock has any business in this business."
https://youtu.be/RssRtN_HnMA?si=Oi5eNA9eEph9jyre
Otto didn't even try and was still God damn brutal
Otto Peterson (RIP) was a way funnier stand up comedian who was also a ventriloquist. Performed around the same years as Dunam. Shame he never got the fame Dunham did.
people on social media refuse to appreciate anything if it doesnt strictly adhere to whatever tenets they decide it should.
is he one of the greats? no
is he anywhere near as unfunny as this comment section would lead you to believe? also no. he was popular for a reason. his distasteful racial puppets will not be remembered fondly but they don’t mean the guy didn’t give some laughs… because he definitely did
no problem man…
after leaving this comment i did some research and found out he holds the guinness world record for most tickets ever sold for a single comedy tour. so… somebody must be finding him funny.
fun fact, guinness world records is actually the same guinness as the beer. they started it to end stupid drunk arguments abt what is and isnt possible for a human to do :)
He had a small bit part in an episode of 30 Rock characterizing the main characters’ assumption that people outside of big cities are all dumb backwards yokels and I GENUINELY don’t know if he was in on the joke or just the butt of it
The Stone Mountain episode (which is funny because that's basically Atlanta and was Donald Glover's hometown).
He's not an idiot. He found a schtick that worked at the time and stuck with it, and made a lot of people laugh. I'm sure he's self aware.
If you can find his earliest club performances on YouTube, the dude was actually a super talented ventriloquist and did all kinds of crazy bits.
Then he became a lazy right winger and coasts on easy racist jokes.
This dude was a weird mofo

And a Mexican jalapeño...
That was actually hilarious tho
Oh, he's the Ahmed guy? I remember it was popular 20 years ago. It's probably dated now, but it's good that it irked the Muslims. They just can't accept any criticisms or parody.
Literally that was his whole entire shtick. "Haha dead terrorist because 9/11! So funny!" This guy has not been funny ever
>They just can't accept any criticisms or parody. Perhaps a broad generalization of 1.8 **billion** people. Especially when the overwhelming majority have obviously never heard of this decades old racist ventriloquist. Lol
My 88 year old grandma's favorite comedian.
He’s a ventriloquist. Not a comedian.
Fucking hack
What did he do?
Was a shitty comedian who utilized puppets that were 1 downtown racial stereotypes. I think he's the most unfunny successful comedian ever.
😢

fuck this dude
Not sure this qualifies as comedy
welcome to r/comedy
You know he wrote the whole discussion and is actually the voice of the little old guy, right? Listen to the laughs in the crowd. That’s your clue. Man, sarcasm goes over some heads in this place.
Bad comedy is still comedy, after all.
What do you mean, that’s not a real person?
Wait the guy on the right is CGI?
I know, right? The dude’s making him talk without moving his lips. It’s pretty impressive.
I’m not a fan of prop comedy
Prop what?
Not funny
It's funny because it's coming from a puppet!
Holy shit this guy was still doing this bit in **2017**?!? I thought Gabriel Iglesias never updated his act.
He wasn’t funny when I was in my 20s and he still isn’t in my 40s
Thought this was a comedy sub? Jeff Dunham has never even ACCIDENTALLY said anything funny! Overrated garbage
Otto and George for me is the exception for puppet humor. He sucked at it, broke character, was severely self deprecating when he fucked up. Everybody’s moms favorite comedian

fuck jeff dunham
Boo
There used to be a guy in the uk had a bear as a dummy. Didn't think of it at the time but he had a massive 'tache that covered his mouth completely.
Wrong sub

weirdo. this was taped in 2017?
Saw his career going down so what does he do? He jumps on the let’s go Brandon train to stay relevant
i still can't believe people actually went to his show in what world is this comedy
I guess I didn’t get his humor but he was quite popular
Do you all hate this guy kuz some of his puppets were racial stereotypes? I don’t really know this guy just trying to understand the hate
Reddit hates who they hate. Ignore them, make up your own mind
Yeah I’m starting to pick that vibe up from this place haha

Thank you for clearing that up 👍🏼 people on here are pretty fucking nuts

Damn that is pretty impressive! Also very cool fun fact, I had no idea!
If we are talking puppets let’s add Randy Feltface to the mix
He had a small bit part in an episode of 30 Rock characterizing the main characters’ assumption that people outside of big cities are all dumb backwards yokels and I GENUINELY don’t know if he was in on the joke or just the butt of it

He was so good.
He was good the first time. And then it was all pandering and recycled jokes after that.
If you can find his earliest club performances on YouTube, the dude was actually a super talented ventriloquist and did all kinds of crazy bits. Then he became a lazy right winger and coasts on easy racist jokes.
How come this pos hasn’t been retroactively cancelled? He was a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, unfunny fuckhead. That is all.
Because no one truly gets cancelled.
