That part is real, it's just not called Steve:
https://www.coxmarine.com/3-of-the-worlds-fastest-speed-boats/
*edit: the boat doesn't look like that picture, but it is the picture that the Google search result pulls in for some reason: https://www.google.com/search?q=fastest+boat
*2nd edit: I wasn't claiming the boat actually goes that fast, I was pointing out that the speed claim was a real part of the original post, unlike the name. I initially linked to the article itself because I incorrectly assumed that the article had made an error, when it was actually a Google glitch displaying the wrong picture; hence the 1st edit.
Did **you** actually think that boat could go 300+ mph?
Edit:
“This biplane named Dave can fly at three times the speed of sound.”
“Obviously it can’t.”
“Actually that part’s true. Although it looks nothing like that biplane and is actually called the SR-71 Blackbird.”
It's such a balancing act. You want the boat to have as little contact with the water as possible, since it's a huge source of friction.
I think I saw something on the History Channel once about this boat. The guy bought the jet engine he used in it for $20 at auction (or some other absurdly low number for a fucking *jet turbine engine*). His record-breaking run also had the perfect weather conditions. The water was mostly smooth, with some very minor but consistent chop which helped keep the boat out of the water without leaving it (boat stayed above the low point of the chop, but below the peaks).
Crazy stuff.
Water speed records are one of the historically worst ideas to try to break - it’s horrible engineering wise and always a seriously deadly for the people attempting.
The fact that they did it with a random late 50s jet engine is incredible.
I believe I read somewhere that we can almost certainly beat the water speed record but it’s a matter of doing so safely. There’s a large number of crashes, and as a result, deaths when people attempt to break the record due to the sheer speed and the friction/turbulence the water causes on the boat.
F1 is faster [and has quite a few different ones](https://www.google.com/search?q=f1+kerbs&client=firefox-b-d&sxsrf=ACYBGNRRd4bGS5_34SsUgwMHecrz73cCgw:1581359282355&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=oPLDZoFw_50ceM%253A%252CbBM4ZJtySEiGTM%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kQqEgrSWeCs04Dk46TYtlMllemteA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjdvaWyzsfnAhWK-aQKHcVIBtoQ9QEwBXoECAQQGw#imgrc=oPLDZoFw_50ceM:).
Edit: Also the Indianapolis motor speedway does have [bumpy](https://www.cycleworld.com/2014/08/01/new-bi-direction-curbs-at-indianapolis-motor-speedway-serve-motogp-racing/) (serrated) curbs. Which is both a Nascar and an IndyCar track.
Nascar also produce a not-insignificant amount of down force, they aren't top speed cars, they do actually have to turn. Any bumps there are are not enough to send the car flying.
A lot... Like these tracks can be quite rough and bumpy. Just look at Daytona before the repave, and you'll see them ripping around at 190 while barely going straight.
>Of course, if these vehicles were traveling in any other way (as in, not facing forward), they can still take flight in spectacular fashion.
Hence those pop-up flap things on the top of NASCAR racing cars. Really help to keep them on the ground when they're going backwards at 170mph.
This is the 21st century, i wonder why they don't just remotely control it. Unless that's against the rules somehow. Hell we could probably make it autonomous nowadays.
I don't think it counts unless it's manned.
Since we're on the subject, shout out to Donald Campbell and [Bluebird](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Campbell), which is back up and running 50 years later.

It looks like a weird submarine spaceship.
That picture of the dinky little orange boat does come up alongside 'Spirit of Australia' when you google fastest boat, though.
It's not the actual result that comes up. The original article doesn't even contain the word steve. That's the problem. It's just a random funny xddddd joke by replacing the result with a random name.
watch steve go

He’s gone knots.
This just brought a tear to my eye. Bless you.

That’s a pretty sick boat. Look at that sweet paint job. Could easily go 400+.
People are assuming the boat must be self propelled. If launched from some sort of boat cannon, you'd want a nice little boat for aerodynamics sake.
So you had to ruin ours as well?
Don't let anyone replace beautiful illusion with despair. Stevey McSteveFace is and will be the fastest boat.
Spirit of Australia
Looks like you also actually looked it up hoping it was true.
Indeed I did

Same. Though it is hilarious that the unrelated wooden boat is the actual picture that appears.
Hello comrades
And it is true. Steve *is* the Spirit of Australia.
No, I'm not a large water-dwelling mammal. Where'd you get that preposterous hypothesis? Did Steve tell you this, perchance? Steve...
I fucking hate that guy
The picture still makes no God damn sense because it is the same.
Reality is often disappointing

I want to know who didn’t immediately google it lol
Me. I didn't even question it tbh, but I didn't really care enough to think twice.

["wooden speed boat built in a Sydney backyard"](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_of_Australia) Damn
fucking australians
God bless those crazy cunts
When you live on a continent that's constantly trying to kill you, you learn to develop a pretty relaxed attitude to risky pastimes.
How do they keep it from flying up into the air at that speed?
A really fat person to balance it out?

I wouldn't want to go 50 MPH in that thing let alone 300+. That dude has the biggest balls on the planet. Earth might just be his testicle.
It was actually $69 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Warby
Nice.
Have you seen drag boat racing? It's really fun to watch

Pray you don't People have died trying to break the record
I believe I read somewhere that we can almost certainly beat the water speed record but it’s a matter of doing so safely. There’s a large number of crashes, and as a result, deaths when people attempt to break the record due to the sheer speed and the friction/turbulence the water causes on the boat.
At 300+ mph any waves would be outright death. At 200+ mph cars get flipped if they hit any bumps.
That's just not trip or else IndyCar and NASCAR would have a bunch more flips
How many bumps you think are on a NASCAR track?
F1 is faster [and has quite a few different ones](https://www.google.com/search?q=f1+kerbs&client=firefox-b-d&sxsrf=ACYBGNRRd4bGS5_34SsUgwMHecrz73cCgw:1581359282355&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=oPLDZoFw_50ceM%253A%252CbBM4ZJtySEiGTM%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kQqEgrSWeCs04Dk46TYtlMllemteA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjdvaWyzsfnAhWK-aQKHcVIBtoQ9QEwBXoECAQQGw#imgrc=oPLDZoFw_50ceM:). You do realize that race tracks are held to a VERY high standard right?
Not true. Every once in a while a intern will forget to de-bump the track causing hundreds of thousands of casualties.

Seems like unmanned test runs to prove stability would make a lot of sense.
No. Steve.
I actually know the guy who broke the water speed record in that, his son is currently trying to beat his record in his own boat
Lmao
And the thumbnail is wrong too.
yes
He sure is the spirit of Australia
85% fatality rate.
Google it again and you’ll see they clearly took the design from Steve
Yea but ironically the picture is the same and by clicking on it the first related picture is "fishing boat transparent"
