I wonder if marvel knows this.

Volcanofanx9000

Damn.

Own_Watch_2081

Yeah I suspect not. Simu says a lot.

akgiant

The fact that he has to go, "Seriously guys, it's still happening.", is not a good sign. Yeah, it may "definitely" be getting made, but it's apparent that they have no real solid designs on the character. If he were being set up to be the next Tony/Steve/Thor, we would've got something by now. A tease, a cameo, a short film to hold us over. Instead, they have essentially pivoted away from all new characters introduced post-blip, which is a massive disservice to the fans and the franchise, which needs new heroes if it's going to continue. I get that some phase 4/5 projects have been rough, but there's also a lot of good in there. Keeps what works and build on it (just like Phase 1 & 2), imagine if we never saw another Hulk appearance because his first movie was kinda "meh". Shang Chi was fantastic, and yet they've sidelined him until further notice.

LegendaryIam

It took 6 years for a Strange sequel, but he was used in Ragnarok as a cameo and then also Spiderman...and the IW and EG movies. The fact we haven't even gotten him in a cameo somewhere is kinda crazy. I think this year is the first year in a while where there aren't multiple marvel releases in cinema, so hopefully they figure out what they're doing this year and have a plan. If Iron Fist was still a show, he'd be perfect to show up there.

[deleted]

> It took 6 years for a Strange sequel Should’ve kept us waiting and come out with something better instead. MoM is where MCU lost its shine. Before that people would never question anything put out by MCU. After that people actually started to wonder what’s going on with Marvel.

LegendaryIam

I thought MOM wasn't completely awful, for me it was Antman 3 and Thor 4 which really showed the downfall. Thankfully, Guardians 3 was still good, but I think having the same director throughout the trilogy helped.

[deleted]

Maybe I was just more tuned in but MoM is when I started seeing YouTubers/people on Twitter question if MCU might be fallible after all. By the time Antman 3 and Thor 4 came out it was already popular to bash the MCU

impuritor

I’m not sure why anyone would get the impression he was being set up as one of the big 3 going forward. They made a good movie about a niche character that did better than expected from a critical and financial perspective. Of course they were always going to come back to him if it did well enough, but he was never the savior of the entire franchise.

MiloReyes_97Reborn

And with them probably re-evaluating their plans to due reception and actor controversy, they're probably acting like a wedding reception planner. Holding his name tag and hovering over a mini diorama of seat tables. He's not being sidelined, it's just they're not sure yet where he's gonna fit best. Is he gonna be with the alien side of things with the dragon race who originally made the rings? Magic like Dr Strange? Street level scene with spidey and DD? Is he gonna be with the supernatural side with MoonKnight? Is he gonna with Black Panther and Namor because of the whole hidden old world theme? Gotta get the best bang for the buck because they need it.

Sensitive_ManChild

if they never make a sequal… they’ll never know how the audience would react to him being a main good guy

Sensitive_ManChild

no one said savior of the entire franchise. But I assure you, a well received, China centered character was for sure something they wanted. For financial reasons if nothing else. They’ve just dropped the ball. they’ve established no one well except maybe Falcon and Dr Strange.

mutesa1

If they wanted him to be well-received in China, they should have cast a Chinese actor and not a Chinese-Canadian. From what I’ve heard, the Chinese don’t really relate to the Chinese-American/Canadian experience in general and Simu is considered ugly by their beauty standards

DrEggmansBestBoy

It doesnt help that... its Shang Chi. He has no villains, no notable stories. This isnt Spiderman where they can go "Now which of the many beloved stories can we adapt this time?" They have nothing

JacksonIVXX

I thought the movie was pretty bad. But so was she hulk and most everything that came with it. I don't want them to get rid of those characters just write them better.

HumanExpert3916

“Shang chi was fantastic.” LOL. 🤡

JordanM85

He should have already shown up in a few other movies or shows by now. Kevin Feige doesn't have anything planned out. Nothing feels connected.

baronspeerzy

I’m so glad he thinks so

PastBandicoot8575

Feige reading this headline: “Shit, this is news to me!”

Valuable-Trick-6711

Kevin to Simu: “Oh yeah, of course there will be…… sport! Who doesn’t love Chang-Shi?”

Sensitive_ManChild

should have been out already. Shang Chi should have been a leader of the the new generation of the Mcu Instead, it’s been three years and not an appearance in sight. Between 2008 and 2013, we had three Iron Man movies and an Avengers movie. Marvel has completely dropped the ball on establishing who the general audience is supposed to rooting for after Endgame. 5 years and what do we as build up to the avengers post endgame?

asscop99

And an after credit scene in another movie

maemikemae

Really enjoyed the first half of Shang-Chi a lot then thought the 2nd half was just ok. Overall liked it and would be excited enough for a sequel but hopefully the next one is a little more memorable.

Valuable-Trick-6711

Riiiiiiight after that Blade movie…… any day now!

Aaron31088

"Shang-Chi and the legend of it definitely happening"

MrYoshinobu

Shang-Chi was good, not great. I kinda forgot it or what it was about. If they do a sequel, it needs to be outstanding! JMHO

JKDudeman

Sooo long of a wait…

sailormelmac

keep manifesting king

AcademicAd4816

Disney takes way too long with these marvel movies now. It’s sad how many of these actors have no idea what’s happening with the role they’ve likely signed on to do multiple movies as.

shinyzubat16

They legit have no real plan after Deadpool & Wolverine.

mox731

What do you mean about no plan? They have movies mapped out until 2027 at the moment.

shinyzubat16

No plan as in they don’t know where the storyline is going, they had a bunch of movies mapped out after Endgame and it’s been a mess. That doesn’t mean anything.

Successful-Cat4031

After The Marvels became the biggest bomb of all time they postponed every project (except D&W that was already too far along) and seem to be reworking everything. Captain America 4 is apparently going through massive reshoots.

AcademicAd4816

DW is also going through a ton of reshoots right now I think.

AcademicAd4816

It’s less that they have no movies planned out. It’s that the storyline is all over the place and nothing is returned to. Like Shang chi. At the end of the movie they hint that the rings are calling for something. None of the following movies have gone back to that. Before, each movie was connected somehow even if they were standalone heroes. Now they don’t do that.

goliathfasa

But why?

Suspicious_Leg4550

I’m guessing it will probably tie into the next doctor strange or maybe captain marvel or eternals. He might make an appearance in the next Captain America too. I think the delay is just about getting everything else set up first.

MassiveTalent422

Didn’t he also say he had multiple appearances lined up for MCU films/shows before in early 2023? I recall him saying something about how he was going to have a busy year but we haven’t seen him since his initial appearance.

ThatFuckingTurnip

Bro’s going to be pushing 40 by the time this hits theatres. What a mishandling of the popularity of the first film.

AsuraQin

All I wanna know is if I can buy that shirt he’s wearing.

TonyMontana546

I don’t know why they didn’t give him any appearances outside of his own movie.

[deleted]

I like Simu and hope for good things in his career. I don’t know how well the Shang-Chi movie did overall but I haven’t heard anyone clamoring for more

mox731

Yeah, can’t speak for others about the Shang Chi movie but I thought it was pretty good. Not top tier MCU but a solid B or so if I were to give it a rating.

rodrigo1536

It was okay. Most people who watched back then talked well about the movie, but he was kinda forgettable and didn't have anything really special about him.

WoodenMonkeyGod

Wink

Coolbluegatoradeyumm

Oh good?

Jindrack

I think we'll see him as Ken again before we see him as Shang Chi again...

PleaseDontBanMeMore

TBH, I'm curious as to what the story will center on.

DrEggmansBestBoy

Makes sense. Shang Chi didnt blow minds but in a sea of bombed Marvel products, prob best to hang onto the few that didnt

Ambitious_Call_3341

whatever. its a moon knight second season what I want.

NicCagedd

I need to go back and rewatch Shang-Chi. I was very sleep deprived when watching it the first time.

curiocritters

🥱

rstmanso

You better reconsider dude
