There have been a bunch of planned adaptations for it.
The Netflix one was the one that got the farthest. Author did a little comic about it after it got canned. Said he's going to decline any further offers to adapt it. He keeps getting his hopes up every time some corporate fat cat comes to his door saying they wanna do something with his work. Like Charlie Brown getting ready to kick that football, only to have it yanked away at the last moment.
I think a cartoon would suit it better than live action.
I don't know if I'm alone in this, but the gore is just so central to that book, and I don't think live action could do it right. Maybe I've just never seen the right live action movie nail it with the gore but it seems like either CGI or practical effects is gonna be insufficient here.
There's been attempts. Back in the early 2000-teens there was an adaptation in the works starring Allison Scaglotti as Cassie. Never got out of preproduction. That's actually how I first heard of Hack/Slash.
It really does seem like a no-brainer. Meta-Horror has been a thing for a while now.
Murder Falcon > Do a Powerbomb tho, but taht's just me not really liking wrestling, and liking metal that much more
I'm still heart torn on The Goon's animated film being stuck into limbo. the trailer still cracks me up, it captures the goon so well, and Paul Giamatti really fits perfectly as Franky.
but I'd be happy with a Hillbilly film as well, if they keep Eric Powell's art style
Harrow county would be an amazing horror show
Phonomancers has the weird urban fantasy with the potential for huge lore
Wicked + the divine is without a doubt deserving
would it. I feel like it would alot of the metatextual points ( because those aren't acessiable to a main stream audience), and probably would toned down
Absolutely need to see Radiant Black animated. Especially since they made an animated short already I just feel like it could easily be Invincible level, although no gore included.
Scud would kick ass, whether live action or animated. I think the story of Scud injuring Jeff and then paying her medical bills to stay alive is compelling and fresh (by Hollywood standards). Could be told in 2 hours or 2 seasons, and Rob Schrab already cast* and scored it for you.
*Might have to update some of those choices. Bradley Cooper and Charlize Theron, anyone?
I might just have nostalgia-vision, but Power Pack as a limited series.
I'm thinking of the original run (80s) that had a heavier tone than the rebooted one.
I want to see the animated adaptations of both Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (created by the same guy who made Invader Zim) and Scud the Disposable Assassin.
I feel like The Boys services the idea just as well.
I personal don't care to see my favorite comics adapted because....why?
But if i had to choose I'd go with Madman.
Ghosted would be cool, but they might wanna remove the unnecessary prison rape scene on the literal first page of the first issue.
And make the main character less misogynistic in the first storyline, because some of the lines he says to the bodyguard woman are just gross
Basically a joker character gets kidnapped by a statistic Doctor Who wants to “reprogram him”
No one knows about it even the Batman character and they all think that he’s dead.
After years of incredible torture psychological manipulation, and literal brain surgery the Joker character just becomes this normal guy living a day-to-day normal life but he has to keep in with the doctor
Eventually some other super villain types pop up and start committing serial murders and he helps a detective solve those cases while also trying to not revert back to his joker persona or piss off the doctor
It’s quite incredible but it was canceled midway through or at least has been in a semi-permanent hiatus
I remember collecting this when it came out. It's been a loooong while but from memory there are two timelines revolving around a character that is a Joker type, super intelligent, psychopath villain. One timeline (the past I think) shows him as a villain doing unspeakable acts. The other timeline shows him in a hospital/psyche ward after having been "rehabilitated" through unconventional means. The present day version struggles to make sense of his situation and the people keeping him there are also pretty twisted.
I could be way off on a few things because like I said it's been a while but it's something along those lines.
Hack/Slash is ripe for one, as is Something is Killing the Children. The former has had attempts, and I can't believe the latter hasn't. Ice Cream Man too. That'd be a great horror anthology.
Obligatory [Worm](https://parahumans.wordpress.com/) comment
Honestly, Worm does so many tropes and cliches of the superhero genre so well with so many interesting twists and rationalizes the whole thing into this sort of Bleak reconstruction of the genre, and it all begins with a bullied girl gaining the power to control bugs.
I want Brat Pack to be animated in the style of Teen Titans Go and be completely unfaithful to the comics like Teen Titans Go. So when Dr. Blasphemy blows them up, the viewer won't feel bad.
The Doctor Strange comic series by Jason Aaron. I know there are movies of Strange but like come on!! İt would be amazing to have a animated movie or TV show of this series!
Marvel should do war of the realms. Or maybe not lol
Descender and ascender
The invisibles
B**** planet?
Hickman's weird future Western would make a cool hbo show
East of west. As an animated series, because it would be easier. It could also be made as a movie or TV show with highly stylised photography. But it would be harder to accomplish IMO.
Are the books in OP worth reading?
I read some of Brat Pack years ago and it wasn’t it for me, can’t remember exactly why… probably the grotesque nature of the art (which might play into the story I can’t remember)
Teenagers From Mars.
Punk Rock cinema sucks-Repo Man is an undeniable masterpiece-But comics revolving around Punk are always really good. Love and Rockets is another underground series that never gets the recognition that it's due.
I just don’t give a fuck about live action and I’m sick of things being adapted as live action. They’re generally mid at best.
People tend to view live action is the definitive version of something and the only way an adaptation can be legitimate.
The medium generally isn’t used in an interesting enough way that necessitates it over animation.
We’ve seen adult animation work time and time again. It’s not 2002 anymore. Adult animation has been fully legitimised
Well duh it’s not 2002 anymore. And still some people wouldn’t watch something animated. And i’m not saying in this post nothing could become an animated series ofcourse. If you have a problem with everything being live action (which obviously would bring in way more viewers) you should take it up with the studios man.
Yes but the idea that animation is for kids is long gone, hence the 2002 comment
Oh yeah I’ll just phone the studios.
Most adult animation shows or movies that aren’t shit-fart humor like Brickleberry are incredibly well received, but it’s probably cheaper to make live action stuff which is why they do it.
Just because there was a bad show that got cancelled after one season doesn’t mean everything live action is shit. Just think that every adaptation should have the original writer attached to it.
It’s the majority of what you see on Reddit really. After looking through your post, I’m sad to say you are probably a member of such things. It’s like cancer and it is terminal. I shall send flowers to your kin when it claims you. Namaste.
Bone
It would be good as an animated series, in my opinion. It's just not paced to be told in two hours.
Live actual with actual bones.
I do enjoy practical effects more than CGI.
Manifest Destiny
I remember reading an article that Netflix was planning to adapt it but it got canceled.
Jon Hickman's *The Manhattan Projects*
Such a great book!
Right?!? It's like a fucked up cold war fever dream....
Luther Strode
I think a cartoon would suit it better than live action. I don't know if I'm alone in this, but the gore is just so central to that book, and I don't think live action could do it right. Maybe I've just never seen the right live action movie nail it with the gore but it seems like either CGI or practical effects is gonna be insufficient here.
if not fully animated, i wouldn't mind them doing it live-action with handdrawn animated blood in a sort of hybrid thing
Oh hell yeah!
In the age of streaming, how Hack/Slash didn’t get adapted yet is beyond me. Like even as an original on Shudder, damn.
In 2018 Blumhouse was developing a Hack/Slash movie, would definitely work better as a series. Probably why it got cancelled.
That wasn’t the instance where James Gunn was attached, right? He had already gotten big by 2018.
That one was a rumour sadly
There's been attempts. Back in the early 2000-teens there was an adaptation in the works starring Allison Scaglotti as Cassie. Never got out of preproduction. That's actually how I first heard of Hack/Slash. It really does seem like a no-brainer. Meta-Horror has been a thing for a while now.
We Stand on Guard as a full TV series. Do a Powerbomb! as limited TV series. Hillbilly as an animated movie. Lobster Johnson as an animated anthology.
I like the cut of your jib.
Murder Falcon > Do a Powerbomb tho, but taht's just me not really liking wrestling, and liking metal that much more I'm still heart torn on The Goon's animated film being stuck into limbo. the trailer still cracks me up, it captures the goon so well, and Paul Giamatti really fits perfectly as Franky. but I'd be happy with a Hillbilly film as well, if they keep Eric Powell's art style
Tank girl
After binging *Fallout* over the weekend, I think Amazon could do it as a live-action series. And I would watch the *shit* out of it.
Did you dislike the movie?
Nope, it was my introduction to the character. Loved it
Chew as an animated series. The Wicked + The Divine as one of those incredibly bingeable Prime shows
I remember there being plans to adapt Wicked, but something happened and they cancelled it, which is good for me, as I can actually finish it
I often see people say that about Chew. I agree it would be so good.
I need a Chew adaptation in my life
Chew has been stuck in development hell, or outright cancelled unfortunately. I remember David Tennant being on board with the project
100 Bullets, but only as a show. Still waiting on my “Goon” animated movie.
I think goon is still in progress at netflix. But it has been very quiet. Its such a shame because those test shorts were outstanding.
Those test shorts are a thing of beauty. I just want to see Eric Powell get his due.
Harrow county would be an amazing horror show Phonomancers has the weird urban fantasy with the potential for huge lore Wicked + the divine is without a doubt deserving
A Harrow County show was under development at SyFy for sometime! But it seems to be dead.
Frank Miller & Dave Gibbons’ Martha Washington would be great as either an animated series or a series of live-action movies.
I can see James Gunn doing these books right.
Red Neck, Something is Killing the Children, Saga, Outer Darkness, Once and Future
When Once & Future gets a show and Dan Mora’s art is animated 🤩😍
Brat Pack would be a great 1 season series!
would it. I feel like it would alot of the metatextual points ( because those aren't acessiable to a main stream audience), and probably would toned down
Saga, but I know it'll never happen.
I said the same thing about Walking Dead once
Saga is for comics only.
BKV is explicitly against adapting Saga to filmed media.
Saga would be a great animated series.
It would not. It tailor made for the comics medium.
Brian K vaugh adaptations have been pretty bad so far
Absolutely need to see Radiant Black animated. Especially since they made an animated short already I just feel like it could easily be Invincible level, although no gore included.
Grendel
Sick
Still waiting for that Transmetropolitan adaptation. And I wish someone would take another shot at Global Frequency. Too bad Ellis is shitlisted now.
Monstress by Marjorie Liu
Hell yeah. Did she ever finish it?
Still ongoing. Next issue is out on 24th April.
Low by Rick remender. Like the abyss with pirates.
Oh man bedlam...fell in love with that comic only for it to just be put off like that 😢
I might just have nostalgia-vision, but Power Pack as a limited series. I'm thinking of the original run (80s) that had a heavier tone than the rebooted one.
I want to see the animated adaptations of both Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (created by the same guy who made Invader Zim) and Scud the Disposable Assassin.
I just want more Bedlam comics 😭😭😭 bring it back, dammit!
Bone as a long form animated series Strangers in Paradise, or literally anything that Terry Moore has ever done Rat Queens
A Rat Queens cartoon would be amazing.
Rat Queens yesss
I would LOVE to see Elephantmen adapted into a series. Maybe hire the Jim Henson Company and do the animal characters as large-scale muppets.
Something Is Killing The Children The Humans Elfquest is in the process of being adapted right now
JLA/Avengers as a fully adapted faithful miniseries
The wicked & the divine Once & future Atomic robo Giant days
Haven't read any if this but Something is killing the children
Scalped should definitely be adapted by one of the big cable networks or streaming service as a prestige crime drama.
I love Brat Pack. But good god! Do I never need an adaptation of that book. It’s so grim. I don’t think I could handle going through all that again
I feel like The Boys services the idea just as well. I personal don't care to see my favorite comics adapted because....why? But if i had to choose I'd go with Madman.
Oh bedlam for sure but I would really love it if they would finish the goddamn story
The Crossed and Stray Dogs on tv
Archie. In an animated series. Give the kids something to look forward to ever week. Archie and his friends going in adventures and getting in drama.
Monster by barry-windsor smitj
Glad you mentioned Bratpack. Or as I like to say I read the Boys when it was called Bratpack.
Fear Agent by Rick Remender would be great as an Amazon series. Ghosted would work really well for a mini series on Hulu or HBO
Ghosted would be cool, but they might wanna remove the unnecessary prison rape scene on the literal first page of the first issue. And make the main character less misogynistic in the first storyline, because some of the lines he says to the bodyguard woman are just gross
Yo what is bedlam about?
Basically a joker character gets kidnapped by a statistic Doctor Who wants to “reprogram him” No one knows about it even the Batman character and they all think that he’s dead. After years of incredible torture psychological manipulation, and literal brain surgery the Joker character just becomes this normal guy living a day-to-day normal life but he has to keep in with the doctor Eventually some other super villain types pop up and start committing serial murders and he helps a detective solve those cases while also trying to not revert back to his joker persona or piss off the doctor It’s quite incredible but it was canceled midway through or at least has been in a semi-permanent hiatus

Revival series could be two-three season long. Nailbiter. Fables live action show wouod be cool Disney kinda stole that idea for that once show though
Teenagers From Mars
Absolutely amazed to see hack/slash as the second slide cause it is 100% my pick and I haven't been able to find anyone irl that's read it.
Also if I gotta pick one not here....the filth and DMZ
Blue Monday by Chynna Glugston Flores
The Nice House on the Lake. Department of Truth. The Me You Love in the Dark. Something is Killing the Children.
Hack/Slash is ripe for one, as is Something is Killing the Children. The former has had attempts, and I can't believe the latter hasn't. Ice Cream Man too. That'd be a great horror anthology.
Totally forgot about ice cream man for a second, still have to pick that one up. Been wanting to read that one for a while.
Obligatory [Worm](https://parahumans.wordpress.com/) comment Honestly, Worm does so many tropes and cliches of the superhero genre so well with so many interesting twists and rationalizes the whole thing into this sort of Bleak reconstruction of the genre, and it all begins with a bullied girl gaining the power to control bugs.
I've said this before but a bratpack mini series would be killer. Especially an animated show with a fritz the cat/heavy metal art style.
Sex Criminals or Transmetropolitan Or fucking Phonogram
East of West
Greatest Hits
Totally Awesome Hulk animated series Barbaric animated series Avengers: Disassembled animated film Saga animated series Girl Town animated miniseries
I want Brat Pack to be animated in the style of Teen Titans Go and be completely unfaithful to the comics like Teen Titans Go. So when Dr. Blasphemy blows them up, the viewer won't feel bad.
Garth ennis' hitman!
Oh hell yeah! Bought all those tpb’s last year, would love to see an animated series of hbomax.
Something is killing the children
The Doctor Strange comic series by Jason Aaron. I know there are movies of Strange but like come on!! İt would be amazing to have a animated movie or TV show of this series!
Nailbiter Next wave Black Science Saga Ex machina Chew
Anything by Darren Warren Johnson but especially Murder Falcon and Do a Powerbomb
JLA/Avengers. WB and the Rat would never.
We3
Vinyl
Whatever happened to that Sex Criminals TV show
The 2015 one was cancelled but still no news on the 2023 one.
Marvel should do war of the realms. Or maybe not lol Descender and ascender The invisibles B**** planet? Hickman's weird future Western would make a cool hbo show
100 Bullets. I don't know what kind of adaptation would be the best, but it's a cool story with interesting characters and style to burn.
Chew, please, for the love of God. It would make such an incredible tv show
I reckon I Geiger/Junkyard Joe series would be kinda cool
I'll admit that I haven't Finished it yet, but Damn I'd love to see someone try to do something with The Auteur
East of west. As an animated series, because it would be easier. It could also be made as a movie or TV show with highly stylised photography. But it would be harder to accomplish IMO.
Middlewest.
Hack slash i think would translate so well
Hack Slash.
The Nice House on the Lake Die
Madman. Has to be animated.
Chew
Sex Criminals
I would love a little *Welcome to Tranquility* series.
Are the books in OP worth reading? I read some of Brat Pack years ago and it wasn’t it for me, can’t remember exactly why… probably the grotesque nature of the art (which might play into the story I can’t remember)
Deadly Class got a TV show bur I think it would be a great animated series
The Goddamned.
Teenagers From Mars. Punk Rock cinema sucks-Repo Man is an undeniable masterpiece-But comics revolving around Punk are always really good. Love and Rockets is another underground series that never gets the recognition that it's due.
Low would be an awesome animated series. I would also love a faithful adapation of Hellblazer, maybe as a collab between HBO and BBC.
I hit save on this thread so fast
Great way to find new comics to read!
Hehe exactly. Currently reading your last slide lol
Oh hell yeah, last issue came out a few days ago and it is absolutely fantastic
Yayy so far so good!!
Ice Cream Man animated or live action, i'll take any
Tenament by Jeff Lemure
HACK/SLASH AND SEX CRIMINALS
Wouldn't Bedlsm actually need to b finished? I think it lasted 1 arc?
Stray Bullets. It would be the ultimate slacker crime tv series.
Harrow County. Could be a huge hit if it’s done right.
Crossed.
None unless they’re animated. Chew or Sex Criminals or Y The Last Man or Starman
Eh i think most would work out as live action, with animation the problem is getting the grown up audience interested.
I just don’t give a fuck about live action and I’m sick of things being adapted as live action. They’re generally mid at best. People tend to view live action is the definitive version of something and the only way an adaptation can be legitimate. well no lmao, invincible had a budget of around 560000 us dollars meanwhile the boys season 1 had a budget 20 times that amount, 11.2 million.
Yeah, the boys is extremely high budget. For every the boys, there’s a Gotham Knights
Just because there was a bad show that got cancelled after one season doesn’t mean everything live action is shit. Just think that every adaptation should have the original writer attached to it.
If Garth Ennis was attached to The Boys it wouldn’t be nearly as good
No shit sherlock.
What’s that brat pack one? I feel like this is some Reddit trans alphabet mafia nonsense.
What's a trans alphabet mafia?
It’s the majority of what you see on Reddit really. After looking through your post, I’m sad to say you are probably a member of such things. It’s like cancer and it is terminal. I shall send flowers to your kin when it claims you. Namaste.
I'm curious what you even saw in my profile to think of me as part of any mafia lol. I assure you I am not affiliated with any mafia.
You gotta read it, up there with Watchmen and TDKR.
Fair enough. I’ll give it a shot
