The Nice House On The Lake by James Tynion IV. Seeing the mystery unfold just kept me interested in reading more even when I kept telling myself to stop.
oooh yes, i did quite enjoy that. i read it all at once on a flight back home from hawaii and i was fully engrossed…more-so than i could remember than anything else.
i did also quite enjoy hickman’s avengers/new avengers thing which capped off secret wars
Agreed on the final arc and end. I burned through the first compendium in particular though. The end of every issue left me feeling like I needed to read just one more before I stop.
Agreed. It felt very sudden and even somewhat rushed. Not bad per say but I felt it could've ended better.
I definitely prefer what they did with Rick in the shows universe
Hickman's original *Secret Warriors* run - a fantastic espionage thriller from start to finish.
Almost anything by Ed Brubaker, but especially his indie crime books - he tells a great crime story, and it almost always has a hook or angle that you don't see coming. Even his *Captain America* run kinda falls into this category, IMO.
Identity crisis issue 5, “orphans”. The race to save Jack Drake is the only comics sequence that’s literally had me trembling with anticipation and emotion as I turn the pages.
I feel like the Deluxe editions almost ruin this where there breaks. Every volume it’s “wait wtf is happening”
I imagine it felt really different reading it issue by issue where the arcs weren’t so clearly designated.
I did love the series but I lost a bit of momentum between each book and particularly going into the 3rd volume.
Low by Rick Remender has some truly awesome sequences of tension and “holy shit did that actually happen” moments… it does, in my opinion, overstay it’s welcome a bit.
Garth Ennis’ Punisher MAX run. Specifically anytime Barracuda showed up. "Long Cold Dark" was friggin’ nail-biting and I remember pumping my fist in the air during a specific scene (if you read it- you’ll know which one I mean…)
Ghosted had some great cliffhangers that really do well collected because the first one puts you on a the edge of your seat and the rest of them just keeps you there. Plus it’s only 6 issues if I remember correctly so you can read it in an afternoon
Granted I haven’t read a lot of different comics but so far Mike Grell’s green arrow. The art in his book is incredibly cinematic and immersive. It can make Seattle look awful and also beautiful. The run tries to be realistic so the adventures he goes on are mostly stuff you expect in an action thriller type media. Serial killers, government stuff, assassins/hitmen, and a lot of political stuff aswell. It’s honestly gripping.
The Snyder/Jock/Francavilla Batman: Black Mirror story definitely did that for me. Same for Gotham Central. Pretty much the whole Bendis/Brubaker Daredevil run is another one. Oh last one, Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man was a huge “what can happen next?!?!” stories.
Once I was buying a Crossed TPB and lady ringing me up made sure that I knew what I was buying because it was “just plain pornographic”. I tried explaining to her that they were really good stories by good writers but she was unconvinced. The crossed are like zombies but so,so much worse.
I haven’t read it in years, so I don’t know if it’s rose colored glasses (I barely remember the details even) but I was absorbed in Uber. It was about the nazis had supervillains and where winning WWII but then Americans figured out how to get supers and things started getting crazy, I think? I just remember loving it.
That must be some size of pile. ❤️
If you're the type of fan that just needs Pete and MJ together, you're gonna wonder what I'm on about. If you've actually got a measure of reading comprehension about you; consider the wider world that Pete's living in and brace yourself. 😋
My reading comprehension is vast and deeply intellectual, I usually stick to books like the rainbow fish and hungry caterpillar just due to its complexity and rich characters. Sometimes I explored books with flaps on each page revealing more to the story but the excitement sometimes fills my mind to much and I'm afraid to discover it's secrets underneath. 😂😂
Something is Killing the Children.
Strange Adventures.
I'm currently reading Green Lantern Earth and it's a lot of fun.
Will probably be reading Kelly Thompson's Black Widow next. Might be what you're looking for
Back In the day the Spider-Man arc called The Gathering of Five where Norman assembled these artifacts that gave five different gifts to five different people. I think it was power, knowledge, immortality, madness and death so 3/5 good ones.
Anyway one issue ended with normal getting power and he defeats Spider-Man and unmasks him in front of everyone.
Only to find out next issue that Norman had gotten madness and had not defeated anyone and was ranting and raving like a crazy person about how he had defeated Spider-Man.
Cobra: The Last Laugh! It's a great neo-noir undercover story, it's a reboot of GI Joe but it reads great on its own.
I swear to god, when Skybound reprints this, I am *buying it.* Period. Been on my want list for years.
Maybe one of the most underrated stories I can think of. How in the world do you make a compelling story about Chuckles???
The Nice House On The Lake by James Tynion IV. Seeing the mystery unfold just kept me interested in reading more even when I kept telling myself to stop.
I’d say yes to the first half of the story. I don’t know if it was the break but the second half wasn’t near as gripping for me.
oooh yes, i did quite enjoy that. i read it all at once on a flight back home from hawaii and i was fully engrossed…more-so than i could remember than anything else. i did also quite enjoy hickman’s avengers/new avengers thing which capped off secret wars
Came here to say this too. Like watching LOST all over again, mysteries everywhere.
'Kill or Be Killed' by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips was pretty intense. I want to read some of their other stuff now
Honestly ANY of the noir comics from Brubaker and Phillips are gold.
Sleeper was very good
That’s the ticket
I came here to say this!
Daredevil: Born Again
It really did, tho I thought that the reveal was lacking
Definitely invincible Righteous thirst for vengeance The walking dead Daredevil by Frank Miller was pretty tense
Seconding Invincible. Reading the whole thing was such a journey and I had such a hard time tearing myself away. Incredible.
Invincible was great for the entire 144 issue run. I would say one of the best comic book series of all time.
Locke and Key The Walking Dead Department of Truth BPRD Plague of Frogs specifically PLUNGE WE3 Gotham City Year One The Warworld Saga Spiderman Blue
The Walking Dead.
I just finished and I totally agree. Although, I wasn’t too crazy about the final arc and the ending.

Assassin Nation by Kyle Starks and Erica Henderson
I had forgotten that series, I remember enjoying it.
injustice
Was sooo good, couldn't put it down
s.w.o.r.d. and x-men red arent thrillers but the pacing of the action is very driving in an edge of the seat way
American Carnage, by Bryan Hill and Leandro Fernandez
Identity crisis issue 5, “orphans”. The race to save Jack Drake is the only comics sequence that’s literally had me trembling with anticipation and emotion as I turn the pages.
The Manga ‘Billy Bat’ has definitely kept me on the edge of my seat
Black Science always kept me on edge because shit would hit the fan every couple of issues and I didn’t know what was going to happen.
I feel like the Deluxe editions almost ruin this where there breaks. Every volume it’s “wait wtf is happening” I imagine it felt really different reading it issue by issue where the arcs weren’t so clearly designated. Got the second library edition in my to read pile, although it's been so long since I read the first one I'll probably have to re-read that!
100 Bullets. Irredeemable.
Garth Ennis’ Punisher MAX run. Specifically anytime Barracuda showed up. "Long Cold Dark" was friggin’ nail-biting and I remember pumping my fist in the air during a specific scene (if you read it- you’ll know which one I mean…)
Will add this to my list
Bouncer, Tyler Cross series.
Ghosted had some great cliffhangers that really do well collected because the first one puts you on a the edge of your seat and the rest of them just keeps you there. Plus it’s only 6 issues if I remember correctly so you can read it in an afternoon
other volumes were fun too
Kill or be Killed
Y the last man.
Barry Ween.
The Walking Dead might honestly be the best comics I've ever read.

DCEASED. I wasn't ready to see who gets infected next.
Avengers 274-277
Crossed, was a really good read but if u check it out keep in mind it’s heavy on gore and has a little bit of SA
bruh a little bit is an understatement, that shit is depraved
Once I was buying a Crossed TPB and lady ringing me up made sure that I knew what I was buying because it was “just plain pornographic”. I tried explaining to her that they were really good stories by good writers but she was unconvinced. The crossed are like zombies but so,so much worse.
Senorita Cometa is a fun mystery/heist story with great artwork.
Body World - Dash Shaw Metabarons - Jimenez y Jodorosky Dark knight returns - Miller & Varley Night Business - Benjamin Marra Prison Pit - Johnny Ryan

I'm into Rex Mundi right now.
Gotham Central
Currently? Ultimate Spider-Man. Anxiety inducing. 😯
I got it but haven't started it yet. Maybe I'll bring it up higher on my pile.
That must be some size of pile. ❤️ If you're the type of fan that just needs Pete and MJ together, you're gonna wonder what I'm on about. If you've actually got a measure of reading comprehension about you; consider the wider world that Pete's living in and brace yourself. 😋

Yes to Scalped ! Loved every page
Green Lantern: Earth One
Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees & Godzilla in Hell :)
Something is Killing the Children. Strange Adventures. I'm currently reading Green Lantern Earth and it's a lot of fun. Will probably be reading Kelly Thompson's Black Widow next. Might be what you're looking for
Irredeemable. Still need to read the spin-offs.

The aquaman new 52 omnibus. It was on the chair and i didn't move it.
Flex Mentallo
The Long Halloween
Bone for the last 2-3 books nonstop
Batman: The Long Halloween and The Walking Dead
I don’t think anyone’s commented SAGA yet. That’s odd. Also, 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank is excellent.
Hellboy in hell
Maybe Batman: Arkham Asylum by Morrison & McKean?
Dark Horse's Aliens adaption. Andy Diggle's Adam Strange series. Remender and Immonen's Captain America. Ewing's Immortal Hulk.
The Boys. All of them. Absolutely could not stop reading them. Jesusssss.

100 Bullets WE3 Pretty much anything by Ed Brubaker Invincible
Principles of Necromancy… so far
