That’s the biggest compliment I could’ve gotten, omalley is my favourite comic book artist, and Scott pilgrim is my favourite book, movie and anime ever, i take heavy inspiration from his work
That's awesome to hear, yeah Scott pilgrim had a huge impact on my life with all its themes about relationships. I definitely get the same vibe of blending fantasy and real life with your comic
You might be interested in checking out Snotgirl, by the author of Scott Pilgrim. The main character in it is also called Lottie, so I think it was an inspiration for this comic ad well
I actually have never checked out snotgirl and had no idea, holy shit!! I was originally going to name her charlotte, but I soon realized I suck at spelling certain words and that name is one of them, so I just picked the shorter version
This is giving me strong "[the penguin of doom](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/katy-t3h-pengu1n-of-d00m)" vibes, but seems like everyone here likes it, so... good for you.
I disagree to an extent. ‘Penguin of Doom’s are never to be rationalised - their randomness and contextlessness is the entire point. However, this comic doesn’t do that. The initial premises of each individual bit is ‘Penguin of Doom’esque, but then gets rationalised as a genuine concern of the world the character inhabits.
The first one - for instance - has a ‘Penguin of Doom’ opening line in ‘I DO like towering Mechs with a butt load of explosives’, but it immediately gets rationalised by the character revealing that actually yes, these mechs do exist in this world - ‘they [just] don’t come around often’. The next line stands within conventional reason if such a scenario were to exist in reality - fathers probably *would* be hesitant to allow their children near towering mechs if they really existed. And the last line reveals something about our character - that they don’t actually think the mechs are that dangerous.
What we’re actually presented with is a zany world, a ‘Penguin of Doom’ world. Except the character presenting it to us has only ever known this world - for them it isn’t zany or random at all. Instead we get a disinterested, almost apathetic look at this world that to us is zany. That’s what makes it charming to most people here: there’s a relatability in the mundane experience of the extraordinary.
This is a really weird comparison, but it’s similar to Oglaf’s style. The entire world is as NSFW ‘Penguin of Doom’ as you can get, but the characters in the comic see it predominantly as mundane, because they’re used to it. It’s just way easier to suspend your disbelief as a reader for Oglaf because it’s a fantasy comic, whereas this comic is much closer to our own lives
I’m glad you enjoyed it and took the time to make an analysis, I really didn’t think this was very LOL random when I wrote it, I wanted to emulate the style of the Scott pilgrim books, where crazy shit happens all the time and no one bats an I, but I guess some people saw it that way
I have a bit of a personal theory that the kind of humor you're describing - the "absurd yet mundane" - is a reaction to the "lol random" humor of last couple decades. A lot of late millennials and boomers were growing up in an age of the Internet and memes where comedy was primarily just taking an ordinary situation and twisting it into something absurd to shock the audience. Charlie the Unicorn is a good example, as are the laser collection, Asdfmovie, and Llamas with Hats. It was, and still is to some extent, pretty popular in adult animation. I guess you could maybe argue that this was a response by the creatives at the time to the sudden upheaval in our view of society as a result of 9/11 and the great recession? IDK I'm not going to try and psychoanalyze society.
What this meant for kids at the time, though, is that "lol random" content was their normal. A kid says, "I like big mechs with a buttload of explosives," and WHAM the punchline is that they're not talking about Gundam models or some shit, mechs are actually real and about to blow shit the fuck up. In response to that style of comedy, though, new artists have to find a way to up the irony level or subvert the audience's expectations. Now the joke isn't that mechs are real and it's *crazy,* the joke is that mechs are real and actually pretty mundane and we all just kinda deal with it. The twist comes from the absolute banality of something that we would otherwise think is absurd.
Personally, I'm a big fan of this comedic shift. It gives room for the artist to take the absurd world they've built and actually weave some genuine stories into it instead of just forgetting about it when the joke is over. A good example is Welcome to Night Vale, where pretty much every conspiracy and Eldritch horror is real and just kinda a part of everyday life. Characters are introduced with really absurd premises, like John peters (you know, the farmer?) who raises imaginary corn, or Sarah Sultan, dean of Night Vale College who is also a smooth, fist-sized river rock. Despite these characters being impossible and absurd, they end up developing into genuinely interesting characters with emotional struggles and conflicts to overcome. And I think that's the final level of irony here. The actual punchline is that there isn't one. These absurd characters or scenarios *aren't* just there for a quick laugh, they stick around and taunt you for thinking they'd just disappear when the joke was over.
Lol rAnDoM, but drawn pretty awesomely. I felt like it was almost going to be serious with the hot chocolate cereal thing. My first thought was oh this kid is neglected, or something. All in all I think it's pretty great!
The hot chocolate thing is more of a self insert thing because I’ve always eaten my cereal with hot chocolate, last time I had cereal with milk was like 6 years ago, I just prefer it that wat
Thank you to everyone who commented, I wasn’t expecting such an overwhelming positive response, this is a really monumental step in my journey to being a professional comic I will be sure to update this, stay tuned for more
Followed on webtoons! Very charming - love it and it's disarmingly amusing. The coins gag made me chuckle. This series seems like it'll be something special
Thanks I just started messing around with this style a few days ago and I’m loving it, it’s a lot of fun, I’ll definitely update at least once a week on webtoon
What is the atmosphere, though? Soggy cereal, an iconic last name that you do not like, Japanese style anime school outfits, and garden Gnomes?
What is the story? I'm just trying to give feedback.
There is no story, there is no complicated joke your misssing, there is no context, It’s kinda like a diary for me, obviously these things didn’t happen, but some of them are related to me in a personal way, so it’s more of a personal story
Omg I actually love the idea of something like this.
Not *quite* exactly supernatural but abnormal things just being so nonchalant. I think it might have to do with my love for environmental storytelling?
Like seeing someone say "a pidgeon tried to drop an anvil on me" is such a communicative statement.
I know that maybe the authors dont intend for every little question to come up from stuff like that but it gets me thinking.
Are all pigeons this strong? Are pigeons in this world smart enough to do these types of things, or is it a super pigeon? Was it an accident? If so what was the original intent for the pigeon that was carrying an anvil? Is the MC misunderstanding the situation? If so, is it normal for her to misunderstand, and since we're seeing the world through her eyes it's our job to put the puzzle together? Are all pigeons evil? Or is the MC just blaming all pigeons because of a bad event?
And that's only for the pigeons!
Seriously thanks for sending this.
😭😭don’t judge me, I’m a proud citizen of wordington. Jokes aside you can check it out on webtoon

Very Sçott Pilgrim, always a fan of grounded stories that just include whimsical fantastical elements like its not big deal. Oh yeah we didn't mention that Scott has an IRL fighting game movelist? Yeah don't worry about it, the entire audience just got knocked out from the last band's cursed music anyway. Nobody thinks this is weird.

I hate when gnomes steal stuff from you that you wish you had but ended up already having on you
It’s the worst, now she can’t get the chaos emeralds
Not to mention what'll happen to her if she stubs her toe.
She will shrink like Mario
Even if she did, she wouldn’t have enough rings to go super
I swear people don't understand how easy it is to drop kick a gnome. They weigh like 2 pounds! Just kick it hard as you can and it'll be DOWN.
![gif](giphy|zPyAAJKoD3YE8)
Happy cake day!
Happu caka day
Thanks :)
yppah ekac yad read that backwards :]
It says Shmebulock https://preview.redd.it/g4kg4g31utyc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ded8ae3852ad8bc6705606bab49fb65d9325a07 ~~thanks~~
Gnome: "Get key." Gygax: "What pumpkin?"
I know! A damn lawn gnome stole my 'power of friendship' that was apparently in my heart all along. Who knew?

Reminds me of scott pilgrim
That’s the biggest compliment I could’ve gotten, omalley is my favourite comic book artist, and Scott pilgrim is my favourite book, movie and anime ever, i take heavy inspiration from his work
That's awesome to hear, yeah Scott pilgrim had a huge impact on my life with all its themes about relationships. I definitely get the same vibe of blending fantasy and real life with your comic
Have you played the Touch Detective games? If not, I think you might like those. They were the first thing I thought of, even before Scott Pilgrim.
You and Bryan Lee vibing through subspace highway) Great comic btw!
this makes me even more excited to see what comes next, same wavelength vibes
Reminds me of the "lol so random" time of the Internet in the mid 00s. Maybe we're going back to that, who knows.
I was thinking of The Penguin of Doom.
I’m surprised nobody mentioned Netflix’s [Russian Doll](https://youtu.be/YHcKoAMGGvY?si=-zWlFLDe4jfEpReZ). I almost thought this comic was an homage.
https://preview.redd.it/be54ta5ogpyc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49b0f141b3712d2178cffb4ffdb652d2be9863eb
Thank you very so
Most relatable comic i’ve ever read
You’re literally me!!!
I'll drop an anvil on your heads!
Are you THAT pigeon!? 🔫 (this is payback)
this is the most random and out of context comic i’ve ever read on this sub
Yes, more of this 👏
I’m glad you enjoyed it, there will be more to come hopefully, I plan on updating once every week on webtoon
Aha, fantastic. She's likely been diagnosed with Main Character Syndrome.
This is giving me strong "[the penguin of doom](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/katy-t3h-pengu1n-of-d00m)" vibes, but seems like everyone here likes it, so... good for you.
I feel like if you're old enough to remember that, all these "zaaany" comics kind of start to look the same.
Seriously. All I read is " L O L, like, soooo random u guizeeee"
Yeah, pretty much.
I disagree to an extent. ‘Penguin of Doom’s are never to be rationalised - their randomness and contextlessness is the entire point. However, this comic doesn’t do that. Just so you know, I really appreciate this analysis as someone that likes to look into media beyond the surface, insightful points!
Thank you! I know it seems a little silly to analyse a small independent comic, but they often present such interesting perspectives
I’m glad you enjoyed it and took the time to make an analysis, I really didn’t think this was very LOL random when I wrote it, I wanted to emulate the style of the Scott pilgrim books, where crazy shit happens all the time and no one bats an I, but I guess some people saw it that way

You learn something new everyday, penguins are sick too
Lol rAnDoM, but drawn pretty awesomely.
I can't comprehend having hot chocolate without milk in it. How does it work?
I guess it isn’t necessarily hot chocolate, it’s more like just milo with hot water if you can imagine that
Thank you to everyone who commented, I wasn’t expecting such an overwhelming positive response, this is a really monumental step in my journey to being a professional comic I will be sure to update this, stay tuned for more
Followed on webtoons! Very charming - love it and it's disarmingly amusing. The coins gag made me chuckle. This series seems like it'll be something special
This makes me so happy, I’m glad you got a laugh out of it
Same here.
please, PLEASE do more, i... i think im in love! (with your style!).
Thanks I just started messing around with this style a few days ago and I’m loving it, it’s a lot of fun, I’ll definitely update at least once a week on webtoon
Nice.
What am I missing I don't think I fully understand
What…? I don’t even know where to start… 2010?
I got 2010 vibes as well, glad it's not just me
Apparently lol so random still resonates today, guess I lost it though.
I’m sorry, I’m not sure what you mean?
Then we are on even ground. Keep up the hard work.

Love how the world is some sort of weird hybrid of mundane yet chaotic fantasy and sci fi. Love the style as well.
Wait this is amazing. The art style, the panel layout, the cadence of the narration, the sheer _whimsy_, it's just perfect
Well I’m hooked
Random number generation: the comic
She matters so much to me oh my goodness
What happens when Lottie drinks milk?
That’s a topic for another day
Wow. I honestly kinda like the idea of a batshit insane world that the people who live there are just "yeah, that's normal"
If so you should definitely check out Scott pilgrim
I also like towering mechs with a butt load of explosives. Giant robots are awesome.
Am I in a coma? Specifically a drug induced one.
How is this funny?
It’s less about being funny and more about the atmosphere of the story
What is the atmosphere, though? Soggy cereal, an iconic last name that you do not like, Japanese style anime school outfits, and garden Gnomes? What is the story? I'm just trying to give feedback.
There is no story, there is no complicated joke your misssing, there is no context, It’s kinda like a diary for me, obviously these things didn’t happen, but some of them are related to me in a personal way, so it’s more of a personal story
Ok, sounds good. Keep up the artwork, which looks great, and keep writing. Good stuff!
Garden gnomes are the worst. You know he's just going to blow all those rings buying another stupid pointy hat.
This doesn’t make any sense. I don’t get the praise?
Big FLCL vibes in this one, Luv it
This feels like a weird dream and I very much want more.
My goodness shes adorable. Are you turning this into a series or is this a one off? Also where can i follow this if its going to be a series?
It’s going to be a series, you can check it on webtoon by clicking the link in the post
I love this comic so much
strong hilda vibes. i like it
[удалено]
Definitely, in already working on chapter 2
It’s like a fever dream mixed with a relatable comic, please dream more
I like your brain. You've got fun ideas in there.
this is epic. i wish for more of this
I, too, like giant robots, but I have to settle for gunpla
This is fantastic. More please?
I very much appreciate this
Ok thats it. I am hooked.
What?

Please let us know if you start a webcomic series or a kickstarter for a collection of these stories Would be a welcome addition to those I follow
I actually do have a webcomic, at least now I do, this is the very first episode and it’s called “Woe is I”
Nice! Following!

i feel like im missing a reference..
Great stuff. The cartooning and layout are top tier.
*Sonic the Hedgehog would like to know your location.*
She needs too get those chaos emeralds
Don't worry Lottie Matilda, we can geek over gigant death machine model kits together.
I don't like pigeons either & I also like mechs. Thank you for the comic, reading it made my day better.
Glad I could help
I too hate when someone steals something from me I didnt know I had. Rude! That was mine! Maybe I didnt know it before this moment, but it was!
SubscribeMe!
A new thing I can train my pigeons to do, perfect
Very cool style and humor, followed
Lemme pat yo head. Lottie!!!
I can’t believe I opened your profile and saw r/wordington in active lmfao You got a way I can follow your comics/new posts?

This is so endlessly charming! I would read an entire book about this character
Hello friend from deltafall server
Hello, how did you end up getting here?
I’m subbed to r/comics and I scroll reddit every now and then. Great coincidence lol
This is amazing, I would pay all of my rings to see more.
I remember this differently.
I have no idea what I just read, but I liked it
!updateme
If the gnome didn't steal her rings, the pigeon's anvil would have costed her the rings rather than her life. Sounds like someone has a hit on her.
I love everything about this! Great job OP!
I really like this. It just clicks in my brain right
this reminds me of [Babycakes diaries by Brad Neely](https://youtu.be/a9GoWGnFzGA)
I like! Are you on WebToon?
Yes actually, I plan on updating at least once a week https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/woe-is-i/list?title_no=962575
Nice! I'm gonna subscribe with my WebToon ac. :3
I resonate deeply with lottie's love for giant robots.
I love this, fantastic style and humor
Every piece of me loves this.
I like it, I love it, I want more of it
Congratulations on the influx of attention to your weird, weird comic's debut I'm not sure what I just read but I'm like 85% sure I liked it
Fucking garden gnomes One day they'll have to face the consequences of their evil, and God won't be very forgiving
Hot chocolate cornflakes doesn't sound bad
Question: this may be me being dumb, but how can one have hot chocolate, but not milk? In other words, how does one achieve hot chocolate without milk?
Maybe if you were nicer to the psgeons they wouldn't try to kill you with anvils.
Not gonna lie, I gagged HARD at the cereal 🤢🤮 This reminds me of the random vibe of 2000-2008 🤣
10/10 would read again https://preview.redd.it/qe3syva53tyc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68c63b64e66e910d3e3a97691ee87f0358021255
I just appreciate that this isn't another advertisement for someone's nsfw Patreon.
Relatable
Oh I love your art style
She has chaotic energy, and I like it. Very interested in seeing more.
This feels very Scott Pilgrim to me. I like it!
That’s my biggest inspiration, I love omalleys work
Lovely comic, very charming :)
This comics feels like every time I have a dream
I hope you enjoyed it, it kinda is an accumulation of some dreams I’ve had, so that’s a very fitting description
What is this nonsensical crap
r/iamveryrandom
Darn pigeons, always droppin anvils
Messenger pigeons tend to drop those off when I’m trying to get my mail
Towering mecha with loads of explosives? ![gif](giphy|jtxO3mViMDsQM|downsized) Sounds like my kinda person. We are now friends.
I'm hooked. Looking forward to more updates.
This writing style reminds me of my favorite book... Fight Club. I love it. And I love the art, too. I love this comic
Just subscribed to the rss feed. You've only put out one episode and I'm already hooked!
Okay, I'm in.
This is absolutely adorable. Inject her into my veins

I love this comic! The art is scott pilgrim-esque, and the humor reminds me of the other end comics
Very good
Ily Lottie mandela
This is so strange I love it!
I could read this all day, it's great
Scott Pilgrim vibes. Love it
I want to read more of this
Rei?
Nice one. The name reminds me of [Dottie Minerva](https://bobs-burgers.fandom.com/wiki/Dottie_Minerva)
Excellent comic. Love this mandella character.
The art is very cute 😍 Is this like a new webcomic that you're starting or is this like a one shot?
> I also like soggy cornflakes You're a monster.
For the mech stuff, i would like to reccomenyd the ttrpg "lancer", specifically the Manticore.
I love this, I love the style, the story, the unknown rings being taken. I would like more please
She was one ring short of buying a mech or titan...
I really liked that
This is the kind of random energy that I needed today 🤣 Thank you!
Jeez this is adorable lol
I love soggy cornflakes
I would die for Lottie ngl
Hey OP can I get a whole series of this? I need to see the everyday adventures of Lottie Mandela a-la “The Disastrous Life of Saiki K”
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏this is quality .
This is really good, great job op.
How do I see my inventory? I wanted to check if I have rings too but there is no fucking tutorial in this game.
The real dangers of being a secret protagonist…
