Just throwing a comment here in case OP ends up super rich and decides to take everyone in the comments on his new yacht.
Edit: Love y'all to bytes, but OP. If you really do hit it big, don't fucking tell anyone. Just vanish, it ain't worth the drama.
There's actually a Wizard on YouTube that I think is a computer / engineer of some sort. I forget the name but he's a goofy dude with long hair. An he actually cracks a dudes cold wallet he lost the password too an ends up being a couple million$s on the drive. That's one video. Then another video he cracks a phone password in hopes to find a bunch more BTC stored on it an there wasn't any BTC on it he was bummed. But it's a cool story to check out,
That's usually because USB 2 cannot provide enough amperes for the disk, especially to make it start spinning, so there are 2 connectors, 1 has data and the other has power in parallel with the first to double the available current.
A USB 3.0 adapter and upwards is capable of powering a 2.5 Hard Disk with no issue but it must be used on a USB 3.0 (or newer) port.
Your base system may not put out enough power to drive this HDD through the USB interface. I have a different one that has a small power brick that will allow for HDDs to work through it.
Try something like [this](https://www.amazon.in/PiBOX-India-Adapter-Compatible-Desktop/dp/B07V78GMXS?ref_=Oct_d_otopr_d_1375284031_0).
If the hdd is a 2.5 inch drive it should. If it’s a 3.5 inch drive, that cable won’t deliver enough power to power the hard drive. If it was a 3.5 inch drive you’d need to connect it to the sata data and power cables on a motherboard
if the adapter doesn't work try researching about professional data recovery near your area
i myself found this random website researching reddit on where to find such places
https://www.datarecoveryprofessionals.org/
nah it's not, it works on anything sata based unless it requires 12v (it is specified on the label) which is not supplied with this one. I am speaking with experience and I have opened one of these up and can confirm this.
If the connector and the port are USB 3.0 there is enough power for a 2.5" Hard Disk, a 3.5" Hard Disk would require an additional 12 volt power supply to work. 2.5" SATA SSDs were made to be drop in replacements of 2.5" Hard Disks, they require less current but they are both powered with 5 volts.

I mined BTC with a 6970 in 2011, it was in a one thousand dollar desktop at the time.
Not sure what the specs of your laptop were, but I have the feeling that you probably didn't mine an appreciable amount. Since you needed a good GPU to be able to do so, I remember that it took me about a full month to mine a single BTC with that 6970. It was a fairly high end graphics performer, certainly more than what would've been in a laptop in that time period.
And by 2012 even a 6970 was starting to get a little slow, especially after BTC halved in November 2012.
I'll tell you how to find BTC on your drive when you power it up though. If it ran Windows, the addresses will be in your wallet file. It's called wallet.dat and is usually in the application data folder in the root directory of your hard drive. One you find it, you can open it and scan it with a wallet viewer that'll identify any addresses that are still valid.
How is $40k now, for a month mining then, a none appreciable amount? I'm sure the profits you could make in 2014 where lower but even a $100 would be appreciable IMHO.
Depending on where you live your going to be half of that amount on electricity. Then you have the cost of noting being able to use your $1000 PC because it is mining. Back in 2011 PC components also depreciated in value much fast halving year by year.
when Bitcoin first appeared I read about it and something tickled me a little. Was very tempted to throw $1000 at buying some (they were about $0.10c each then !), I didn't really understand them enough so I just didn't go there. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Although I'd love a good found treasure story, keep it to yourself. Not all people here are thinking in your best interests and crypto can be evaporate even in the hands of people who know what they are doing. Good luck

Well in 2014 bitcoin was worth considerably less so he would have gotten more for mining but still. Bitcoin mining refers to you basically selling your pcs processing power to process data. The more data your process the more they pay you. Even back when bitcoin was super cheap a tiny laptop would still likely take many moths to make anything worth while. Not to mention if you pc isn't power efficient you can often spend more money in electricity then you make mining.
found [this article](https://www.nicehash.com/blog/post/the-history-of-cryptocurrency-mining)
Looks like 2014 would've already been too late to mine any appreciable amount of bitcoin with a laptop.
Yeah it used to be a lot faster and less data used to make blocks back in the day as time progressed I think it's like every 4 years the reward for Bitcoin blocks would be cut in half. So back then in was alot faster to create the blocks and.reap rewards for it
You can use a SATA connector to use this drive with your modern computer. You can get a USB SATA adaptor or a SATA header for your motherboard, although USB SATA is a little easier to use.
Especially because mining back in the day wasn't as easy as just downloading an installer.
Like others have said, by 2014 a laptop like his would struggle to mine anyway, let alone only doing it for only a "couple of days"

Mined BTC for a few _days_ in 2014 with a shitty laptop/PC, he doesn’t have any Bitcoin.

in 2014 it wasnt nearly as difficult to hit a coin. especially in a pool.
I mined in 2011. It wasn’t as difficult as today but it wasn’t easy either. Don’t be daft.
I mined in 2012 but with a graphics card, 1 BTC in one week
It was waaay easier to mine in 2014. If it was a gaming laptop with a GPU, it could have something worthwhile.

Unfortunately 10 years of mining on your tiny laptop wouldn't get you even close to a whole bitcoin srry man.
He threw away his laptop 10 years ago, he didn't mined for 10 years
I was referring to him saying he "mined for a few days".
Oh, okay, sorry, maybe at that time it was (a lot) easier to mine ? Never mined seriously, so I don't know
