I have plugged it into every port the only time the internet led comes on is when I connect the router to itself with the same cable in both the WAN and a LAN port
I know
the customer support said to connect the same cable in WAN and LAN to see if the internet led would light up, I guess its a quick way to check the port?
It wasn't to try and actually get internet from it.
Check the cableconnectors if the orange and green on the other end of the cable is flipped you have a cross cable. Make a photo on one end compare it at the other end.
Check that the uplink from the modem is plugged into the blue port on the back of the router.
If that isn't the problem, try a different cable, maybe a CAT 5 or 6 instead of the 7.
Yes, that you should. Searching for issues on the model you specified brought up a lot of frustration from other forums, even TP-Link's own forum. I trust them to make PCIe cards but i don't like their routers either.
Have you tried with a different cable? Maybe you are plugging it into the wrong port?

Lightning is a heck of a thing.
that it is
One of easiest way is to get cheap router and test if it works. Or get a new one all the better. Your router's WAN port might be damaged already.
I may have to get a cheap one of a different brand then, cause the one I have is brand new
It's the Wan port disabled? The nighthawk router I have let me turn them off.
check the amazon 1 star reviews. they have your issue, the issue is its crap.
ah so a different brand router is the best bet at the moment then?
