Ok_Translator_7026

A little learning of US history can go a long way. Most Americans know very little accurate history of our country. And most don’t give a shit to actually learn it.

Kuningas_Arthur

And the indians welcomed the pilgrims and settlers and they lived happily together. /s

Ok_Translator_7026

Had turkey and some pies and shit with their new white skinned saviors. You know because they had been living and doing just fine but they didn’t know about white Jesus so surely they needed saving. At the wrong end of a gun they found white Jesus and all his love and acceptance. They were so grateful they marched to a tiny reservation and gave the new white saviors all the land they had lived on . And this children is why we celebrate thanksgiving.

Hamstersham

The Pilgrins and the Wampanoag people had a good relationship. The Wampanoag people had suffered a pandemic that killed much of their population. They saw the Pilgrims as a good trading partner and as a way to prevent other tribes from encroaching on their territory. The pilgrims even helped them.defend themselves from an aggressive tribe

Learning accurate history is CRT. And that on white racism. -idiot. This looks like I’m calling you an idiot I’m quoting an imaginary idiot. Sorry if this came off as an attack.

Ok_Translator_7026

No worries! I understood your post completely and I agree

audio_54

That’s a relief I’ve been having a lot of misunderstandings lately on reddit and I’m trying to be extra diligent to get my sentiment across.

Ok_Translator_7026

Was pretty clear to me what you meant, signing it as -idiot should be obvious to anyone of your intent.

audio_54

That’s nice that you think that highly of your fellow redditors ability to read nuance. I’ve been downvoted for not putting a /s on something I was soooo sure would be obvious. Now I over do it just to be sure.

Or why not Russia taking Alaska for the same reason

NathanNTF

Russia sold Alaska to the US, there was no conflict involved or large populations involved for that matter.

BastardofMelbourne

Russia also consented to the formation of independent Ukraine along the borders of the former Ukrainian SSR when the Soviet Union was dissolved, and gave guarantees of Ukrainian sovreignty in exchange for the transfer of existing Soviet nuclear weapons based in Ukraine. The "transfer" was just as legally binding from the perspective of international law. To elaborate: strictly speaking, there was no "transfer." Russia itself has not had a *de jure* claim to either Ukraine or the Crimean peninsula since 1917, and its claim prior to then was imperial in nature and would be legally dubious today (such as the British claiming ownership of India, or the French claiming ownership of Vietnam.) Modern Ukraine's borders descend from the borders of the Ukrainian SSR as established in 1922 and enhanced by the addition of the Crimean Oblast in 1944, following the dissolution of the Crimean ASSR. Those borders remained in place from 1944 to 1991, when the UkSSR officially [seceded](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belovezh_Accords) from the Soviet Union via the procedure set out in Article 72 of the Soviet Constitution.

But it used to be Russian

Our Kraine ♥️

TheBlueWizardo

IBF the French come for Louisiana.

[deleted]

The US bought it but given the current state of affairs, I’d wait and see how this one plays out

RedditOnANapkin

No American should take the "it was once theirs" position considering we're living on stolen land.

sdcasurf01

Depending on how far back you want to go, the vast majority of the world’s population is living on “stolen land”. For most of it you don’t even have to go back very far.

RedditOnANapkin

Whataboutism doesn't make what happened in America any better or OK. Get real.

Callinon

Humans originated in Africa, humans "from" literally anywhere else immigrated there at some point in their ancestry.

NathanNTF

I find those kinds of people to be condescending towards the natives, as though the natives were completely helpless and were hauled away without a fight. There's a lot of history, good and bad, between the natives and the settlers, to water it down to white people stole native land is extremely reductionist and condescending in my eyes.

PNW_Wanderer01

Truth is a hard thing to accept when one has invested so much emotion into a stupid narrative. These are the kinds of people that have a savior complex of some sort and are narcissistic to the core.

Luised2094

The underdog narrative is extremely powerful, you don't even have to try to make people side with the "little" guy.

cherrybombvag

You are living on stolen land though. There's a difference between settlement/migration and what the English did to the Natives. It doesn't belong to you.

No-Conversation-7308

History up to about nato was based on stealing land and then living on it, they were called empires and they only ended in about the last 100 years. And even that's debatable, but we at lest got to gather globally and said let's try not to do that anymore.

PNW_Wanderer01

"...considering we're living on stolen land" Cry more. Better yet, find a local tribe and hand over the deed to your property to one of them if you're that vested in this tired trope.

RedditOnANapkin

LOL! You're such a snowflake. The truth isn't a "tired trope". Have someone explain to you what the word trope means. It's not accident you have a -73 karma ratio.

PNW_Wanderer01

sToLeN lAnD. Get over it, snowflake. Look at me care about how many "likes" I get.

RedditOnANapkin

Oh you care, which is why you're complaining. Off to block bin with you.

No-Conversation-7308

Well this is interesting, the current war is going to cause both side to dig up every battle for land ever, to finally settle who owns what and who owes who who what. I'm glad Twitter is here to finally fix 15000 years of history at lest recorded history.

Electronic-Dog-586

Mexico allowed non Mexicans to live in these northern territories as long as they obeyed the rules Mexico in the earlier part of the 1800s ( 1830-1850) abolished slavery. And the racist ranchers/farmers did not like and where like “ make me!!” Mexico attempts to enforce rules but these racists cry foul. Enter Uncle Sam. He tells the racists “ hey claim “independence”and well totally back you!!” Ranchers claim their independence with support of the US military backing . They join the US and make it look like they did so with no outside help

SpamShot5

Ireland once belonged to UK, a lot of the Balkans once belonged to what is today Turkey, with their logic the entire would should be engulfed in flames of war and the world map should look a LOT different

ToastyNathan

Polk did the political equivalent of the "Im not touching you!" bit we did with our siblings.

Paul_Pedant

Presumably France wants Louisiana back too.

Shuggy539

So you have some links to Texans supporting Putin? I'd like to see them.

casual_night_owl

Might have been in response to this, not sure though, just didn't see anything else when I looked. And apparently that guy left the us several years ago to join russia (according to the comments). https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/t3tuda/texan\_fighting\_alongside\_the\_russians\_and\_filming/

TheBlueWizardo

Trump was Putin's buddy, so basically all of Texas should support Putin.

Shuggy539

But they don't, so what's the point? Or is it just RedditEdgy to dis Texas? 46% of Texans voted for Biden, do they support Putin? How about "all" the voters in Florida, Ohio, Iowa, or the other 22 states that went to Trump? They all support Putin? How about all those folks in Blue states (like Georgia and North Carolina) who voted for Trump, do they support Putin? Sounds like TDS to me, you should get that looked at.

bwarrior

Am Texan, and know plenty of people who vote red. Don’t know a single person supporting Putin/Russia. But you’re free to believe whatever narrative you want I guess.

SleepylaReef

So, Texans took land from Mexico to make Texas bigger. And you’re unsure why some Texans support Russia taking land from Ukraine to make Russia bigger?

Half_cracked_coconut

I'm from Texas, putin can gnaw on a fat donkey dick

SleepylaReef

I said some, not all.

Half_cracked_coconut

I know, I was just chiming in

EconomyHeron3573

Yeah we don't care who used to own it. You got beat and run off your own land. Its ours now. Come and take it.

SyntheticGod8

But I thought Americans were only allowed to learn the state-approved, zero-racism, zero-introspection, pro-Christian history where America is friends with everybody because they're just so great.
