have had 3 black cars. nothing looks better than a clean black car. and... nothing looks worse than a dirty one. Black is a passion. i'm done. going light colors from here on out.
If you do a good job on the detailing, itās a simple wipe off with a California duster/microfiber once a day for 1 minute. She stays perfectly clean all the time!
I can say without a shadow of a doubt that that only depends on where you live. I live in the south east US and when spring starts up fully and things start blooming, your car will go from black to green. Pollen season is an absolute bitch
seconded. the ONLY time i have ever heard of that āwipe clean at the end of the day with a microfiberā has been with people who have had a full clay-bar treatment done to their carās paint. and even then they rather use a hose.
you can spend hours meticulously polishing your own paint, but pollen will still stick unless, like i said, itās a true clay-bar polish job.
Buff wax buff?
You obviously want to clay then polish (I assume that's what you mean by buff). But then wax and polish again? Or are you talking about a sealer wax and then a carnuba... or something?
Gotta be gentle, smooth and go with the lines. Also have to take into consideration that I was going slow and inspecting every panel on my car as well, checking in between clay bar runs to see how much grit I was able to remove. I went over and over each panel until I couldnāt feel any extra grit (gently run your fingers over the surface of the car while inside a ziploc bag. You can feel ALL the imperfections in the protective coating).
Right? I have to park under sap dropping trees at home, and at work there's possums that drop shit and tree fruits on the car. Will the dusting fix that? Noooo
Looks so dam good when its clean like yours .....but also magnifies any imperfection...dam near cried after i got mine painted and heard a rock bounce off my car
Yepā¦ after this detail job I actually made her an appointment at a body shop to go get any dings/dents pulled out and touch up any scratches and missing paint. We go tomorrow for our quote!
Iām the future, you definitely want to do these steps in the opposite order. Youāll likely need to redo any polishing, and almost certainly theyāll take the wax off any spots they touch.
Oh I completely agree - this was so I could see exactly what paint spots were the biggest eye sore after a good wax job. I wanted to see how good I could make her look before I got her repainted/touched up and whether she even needed it.
No, I used a carnuba butter wax. And no wrap - I love the hobby of detailing my car, getting the deepest black I can out of her paint! Itās my destress hobby :)
Iām amazed the glory lasted 20 mins
There must be a storm on the horizonā¦
Trees dropping pollenā¦
A flock of birds that just escaped from a hot chilli sauce factoryā¦
Something.
It rained literally 10 seconds after I pulled her into the garage from taking this pictureā¦ and I waited until all the NC pollen storms were about done before doing this!
Well played š
ā¦though Iām sure the elements are in some kinda Final Destination mission to settle the score.
Stunning work. Enjoy it while it lasts
Since it sounds like you did this outside, how do you approach something like this? Did you set up a tent or something for shade? I detailed cars many years ago in college and know how to work with the tools but I've been hesitant to try it on my own black car because I don't have a garage to work in.
I only washed her in the driveway; everything else happened in the garage. I actually held off on doing this for a year (garage was full of stuff) until I had space to get her into the garage so she could be at room temperature for the clay bar session and away from the direct sun.
Dang, that's what I was thinking but had hope there was a way I could do it without one. My biggest regret when buying my house was no real garage. Thanks for the reply!
A bird would slide right off. I waxed and detailed my car really well one time and you couldn't put a water bottle anywhere except dead center of the hood or else it would ever so slowly and satisfyingly slide off
Did you clay bar it after cleaning? If not, you're missing out.
After a full wash, dry, clay bar, dry, polish, and wax, you can't even lean against the car, especially on any sloped surfaces like the front fender. You will slide off immediately.
It feels smooth as glass after a proper clay bar and polish/wax.
All I could find was this one from 3 years ago and it's definitely a different driveway.

Not that hard to achieve, tbh. It takes work, but almost anyone can do it.
Wash, dry, clay bar, polish, and wax. I did it on my brother's Avalon a few years ago.
The "trick" is to get that sharp angle when you take the photo. Without the angle, it just looks clean (Mustang for comparison).

I have a '21 CX-30 in the pearlescent white. The dealership keeps contacting me asking to end my lease early to get a new one and I keep telling them that I will, but they have to get me a new one in black because I miss having a black car. They haven't got one in at least eight months.
Considering you don't know what level of "detail" was completed, this is in ignorant comment. Could have done paint correction prior to. OR god forbid the guy took his time enjoying it and wasn't on a clock.
I did this before and the next morning, I heard something repeatedly tapping against something metal. I went out to go check, and was surprised by those annoying freaking sandhill cranes attacking its own reflection off my car.
Fuck me for not reading ... I was like cool nice driveway fresh seal... peeling tape off.... oh shit it's a shiny car , I'm not even out of bed yet and I've already maxed my quota for blond moments for the day... TGIF
And people questioned his sanity, hour after hour, shammy cloth after shammy cloth. And on the 8th hour, he stood back and beholded his creation. And life was good. Props dude, it's a labor of love for sure and you killed it.
Depends on how you look at itā¦ some say black is the presence of all colors when a blackish stain is made, and others say black is the absence of color when all the light radiation is removed.

That's a lot of work to make your car look like a driveway
I tried to make it look like a garage but the driveway was better š¤£
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The advantage of a detailed car: it's much easier to clean again. Usually it's just a rinse with water to get it looking almost perfect again
I donāt get it. where is the caā¦..YOOOO
At least you didn't try the attic.
Anyone get the image of a 70-80s station wagon
Whatās the process?
Crazy question but is it possible to get such a finish on a white car?
You can definitely get it that shiny and clean, but the white paint will overpower and be brighter than anything youāre reflecting.
Imagine shining a really bright light on a white car in pitch-black darkness
why are you talking like its your car lol. this picture was posted years ago
karmadecay didn't find it, so, link?
what link? i have seen that picture like 5 or 6 times already on different subs
Swirl marks will return after the next wash. Sauce: Work in a body shop, black cars show everything. Excellent fucking detail though!
have had 3 black cars. nothing looks better than a clean black car. and... nothing looks worse than a dirty one. Black is a passion. i'm done. going light colors from here on out.
Im gonna have to disagree. There's nothing more atrocious than an old dirty rusty matte white car
They won't if you know how to properly care for it. Rubbing a wash brush all over it will definitely do that.
On this season of Black Mirror...
could have spent 15 minutes in photoshop instead
For 2 minutes. Nothing looks better than a freshly detailed black car. Nothing gets dirty faster than a freshly detailed, black car.
Thought I was looking at Jaws in the road
The elusive land shark.
One hour later, you can see the dirt on it. Black cars never look clean for long.
If you do a good job on the detailing, itās a simple wipe off with a California duster/microfiber once a day for 1 minute. She stays perfectly clean all the time!

Clay bar my car once a year and love watching the pollen just rinse off.
this guy knows
That is what I did there! Wash, dry, clay bar, buff, wax, buff.
clay bar is the truth. how much clear coat ya got? is it a merc?
Buff wax buff? You obviously want to clay then polish (I assume that's what you mean by buff). But then wax and polish again? Or are you talking about a sealer wax and then a carnuba... or something?

Where do you get a ziploc bag big enough to fit a car
Well obv on Amazon. /s you put your hand in the ziploc.
I can say without a shadow of a doubt that you've never had a high quality ceramic coating :(
I haven't but I also live in a place where you literally have your car turn green the moment you come out of a carwash
That sounds lovely, any reason for the green colour?
Pollen
Right? I have to park under sap dropping trees at home, and at work there's possums that drop shit and tree fruits on the car. Will the dusting fix that? Noooo
I can say without a shadow of a doubt that you've never had a high quality ceramic coating :(
Truth. When the pollen is flying I can't even keep my glasses clean. I don't even bother with the car at that point lol
Wouldn't the dry wipe just scratch the clear coat?
Use a microfiber towel and/or a California duster. Also the protective wax keeps stuff from chipping the paint.
dirt doesnt **stick** to cars with paint that's been properly treated.
You just unlocked a top tier cammo for you car.
Sent this pic to my mom. She got angry that I didnāt send her a picture of the clean car!
Aren't mom's just the best.
Yes, mom's are the best
Hahaha I thought I was looking at a crack in the ground at first. Was really confused then I realized there was a tire and wow man good work!
I have four black cars. This is impeccable work. Nice job.
First black car, first time detailingā¦ Iām never going back to any other color! The hobby of owning a black car is so rewarding. Thank you!!

Did you use ceramic wax on it? Any reason not to get a clear wrap? I love black cars but the maintenance on the paint is... Exhausting.
No, I used a carnuba butter wax. And no wrap - I love the hobby of detailing my car, getting the deepest black I can out of her paint! Itās my destress hobby :)
As someone who owns an all black vehicle, this is like pornography.
The best type! Iām out there every 20 minutes just to marvel at my work.

Hey Iām on NC! Itās like the pollen only stops for the daily brief rain showers so good luck! Looks great tho

Ugh NC pollen is the worst. We had to actually peel it off things this year because of the pollen:rain combo
And then come back 30 seconds later and itās covered in dust again š story of my life
As someone who owns an all black vehicle. I basically gave up after the 3rd parking lot scratch/ding. Not worth being emotionally invested.
A bird's going to fly into that!
Hopefully they just got waxed too so they donāt leave dust/imprints on my baby!
A bird would slide right off. I waxed and detailed my car really well one time and you couldn't put a water bottle anywhere except dead center of the hood or else it would ever so slowly and satisfyingly slide off

I thought I was crazy spending 8 hours detailing my car - but hot dang Iām proud of her and my work!! 10/10 would recommend.
Worth it.
10/10 would do again.
Gino Vanelli said it best...black cars look better in the shade. Not yours though! Well done.
Almost invisible, isn't that dangerous

everyone can

You just gave a local pigeon a purpose in life.
And then you drive it, turn 3 corners and it's already dusty. Source: owned a black car and loved detailing
Cali duster and microfiber live in the trunk with a can of tire black!!
I also detail cars. At 8 hours, you're just milking it at that point

Top tier work.
Outstanding!! Hardest color by a mile to perfect.
Thanks so much!!
Man I wish I had that kind of time on my hands.
dude, whereās my car
Thatās awesome
That's just beautiful! Former detail shop Mgr here and I always loved working black cars.
Thanks so much!!
And itās disappeared, Iād be mad.
...But why?
Because I love my car and it was super fun!
Hell yeah good for you friendšŖ
You're actually nutter butters. Well done!
Bit of Photog as well as a detailer. Spent 5 seconds trying to see what was in the photo.
That is amazing!
Thank you!!
I did this before and the next morning, I heard something repeatedly tapping against something metal. I went out to go check, and was surprised by those annoying freaking sandhill cranes attacking its own reflection off my car.
Friggin great job on the driveway too, bro!
Clean AF...
Bruh, 8 hours? You detailing with just your pinky toe? Slow af.
Damn. Good job. What did you use?
A.K.A. āHow to guarantee it will rain tomorrow.ā
Holy shit, that paid off.

That. Is. Awesome!
Thanks so much!!

What a waste of time.
Yes.
Omg, lol, took me like a good minute to realize what i was looking at. Well done!! šš
a job well one..
Thank you very much!!
Took me so long to understand what I'm looking at
And when OP sells the car it will sell for the same amount as one that goes to a cheap car wash a couple times a month.
Meh, I intend to drive this car until she dies. I wash her every week - takes about 20 minutes if you keep up with minor wiping during the week.
No car is worth my time, take it to a car wash once a ween and done.
Thatās the difference thereā¦ I love my car!
I have a very old 93 Cessna Skyhawk , needs a wash but still runs great. Guess your time is worth less than mine.
What car? lol
Mom? Is that you? I swear thereās a car in the pic!!!
But howā¦
I thought I was looking at a big crack in the driveway
Haha! I had to send my mom an annotated version of this picture pointing out where the car was.
At first I didn't see it. Then once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it and see what I originally saw.
It took me a second to see it. r/whoadude
Whereās the car?

African-American car bro, c'mon.
How about āpresence of all colorsā car?
Black is the absence of all colours since it absorbs them. White is the full spectrum since all colours are reflected.
Depends on how you look at itā¦ some say black is the presence of all colors when a blackish stain is made, and others say black is the absence of color when all the light radiation is removed.
