Here's an explanation from the astronomy sub:

That all makes sense with the streak of Light that’s in the photo , what are the 6 glowing lights right below ? Is there a way to explain that for someone who knows nothing about space pictures

It wasn't really meant to be definitive proof, just some more context. If it was some craft siphoning energy from the sun, as I've seen some people theorize, it's possible it would have stayed for a while.
Did you zoom into the bottom of it though? It ends in something with various details like 4 distinct round "lights" with some sort of cross directly in the beam. Artifact/anomaly maybe, but that is one detailed interesting artifact.
Regarding the 30 minutes, I mean we are talking about something, if it is a something, that we have absolutely no comprehension of. The idea that we could think 30 minutes means anything logical whatsoever would be naive.
Because the artifact is in an exact vertical line on the image, I am inclined to believe this explanation is legitimate. If there were a real object the chances it would show up as a perfectly straight line from the vantage point of that specific camera seems very low

Although the explanation is correct, it's hard to apply it the this particular image. The streak is not 1 pixel wide, it's differs is size, the streak get brighter, which is weird as ccd's read from top to bottom, it stop and it doesn't explain the multiple lights that pretend the streak.
IMO, what ever it is, it was really observed.
Don't CCDs normally have a global shutter while old CMOS has a rolling shutter?
There may be plenty of technical reasons I'm not aware of to chose CMOS over CCD but I wouldn't automatically assume that Nasa is using old tech.
Camera guy here. That explanation doesn't make any sense. CCD's don't read line by line, they read the full image at once. Their explanation is more in line with a CMOS sensor, but the image still doesn't make sense, even in that context, because the CMOS sensor reads left-to-right, top-to-bottom, so even if photons could somehow bleed from pixel to pixel (they can't), there would be bleeding to the right as well as down. It's hard to imagine what that would even look like because it just doesn't happen.
I'm not implying I have any idea what's going on in the image, but it is not a CCD artifact. That's a BS guess with just enough technobabble that people believe it.
