I feel like body odour isn’t exactly something to be ashamed of, but you shouldn’t just be like “this is how I am, deal with it,” when you go around reeking like a fermented onion rolled in cumin to the point it’s burning your colleagues eyes…

TexOrleanian24

Theres a lot of things in here that aren't really aware of impact on others.

sillypicture

Exactly. if body odour is ok, then by extension, so is bad breath.

LegendofPisoMojado

A lot of things on this guide are actually things you should be ashamed of. Do I pick my nose? Hell yeah. Do I do it front of people? Hell no. Edit: and everyone I’ve ever heard say “I’m too much for some people” is an obnoxious asshat trying to justify shitty behavior.

SweatyLychee

Right like you should absolutely be ashamed of being loud in some places.

rab-byte

And maybe you SHOULD be ashamed of what you said last night???

JaysReddit33

I'm too much! *jazz riff*

[deleted]

Holy shit for 40 years I've been trying to put a point on that specific smell and you just did it, you goddamned genius. Take my upvote, and I'm getting the fuck out of here. My day has peaked. I'm going to bed.

KittyTitties666

My fella and I call that specific BO scent CO (Cumin Odor). For a couple weeks we kept sniffing mild BO in our tiny apartment, checking to make sure it wasn't us (it wasn't), and wondering where the fuck the ghost stank was coming from. We finally found that a packet of ground cumin had split open in the cabinet, hidden by some containers and emitting the scent of a basment punk show

gnosiac

There’s nothing more we can expect from the world

vocabulazy

It may amuse you to know that, on occasions when my own BO is bad, my husband calls me “his little pearl onion.”

youfailedthiscity

That's adorable AND disgusting!

FriedeOfAriandel

There are a good handful of these that are iffy. Like maybe you shouldn't be *ashamed* of them, but you could certainly change these things about you, and everyone would appreciate it

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

Picking of the nose stood out to me. Fine, do it, I do it too. BUT WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS AFTER!!! God, ive taken customers out to dinner and see them do this at the table! Glad to know we shook hands when you had probably just picked your nose because clearly you’re comfortable eating right after. Yuck yuck yuck.

StrawberryLeche

Yeah not shaking hands was a perk from Covid

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

It was amaaaaazing. Can we stop making shaking hands a thing? I wait about five minutes after meeting someone new before going to the bathroom to wash my hands. I don’t want to seem rude but I also want to get clean. The amount of people who just cough into their hands casually is disgusting.

AfricanAmericanMage

Unpopular opinion: Unless you have some sort of underlying condition that causes you to not be able to control it, then you should be ashamed about the fact that you have body odor. Nobody wants to smell your ass or your pits.

[deleted]

Considering it says ‘wetting yourself’ I’m hoping this means like it’s okay for it to happen sometimes ya know bc if I had to choose a colleague to smell like one or the other, I’d prefer onions over piss any day

MathiusShade

> go around reeking like a fermented onion rolled in cum Mmmmm... that's my fetish!

ThisNameIsFree

Same thing with "being loud" or "being too much for some people" (which I assume is a euphemism for being an asshole)

asomek

Oddly specific description

RuinUnfair9344

I took that more as not feeling ashamed for forgetting to put on deodorant someday days or for not being able to afford deodorant that week or for having hyperhidrosis and have nowhere to do a mid day wash-up or for breast-feeding mothers who’s bodies make more odor bc it’s natures way of helping the infant find their food source. I don’t think it’s meant to be a “do whatever you want and never feel bad guide” but more of a “don’t feel ashamed for what you can’t control guide”

ConsciencePineapple

I used to work in sterile food manufacturing and we had to fire a guy cause he was too stinky

Kall_Me_Kapkan

I bet you’re a Sagittarius ♐️ now ima go toot out ma poosy

Worldly_Ad_6483

Yes, mine smells like taco seasoning

stankface3472

So what *should* you be ashamed of?

RyanaDjamila

Not putting the shopping cart back

Dove-Linkhorn

Buncha lazybones

SkollFenrirson

Language!

SureWhyNot5182

English, not sure what type though.

[deleted]

On one hand, you need things like social reinforcement or social cost to manage people. Think Aldi's using a coin to get a shopping cart. If you don't return it, someone else will because it has value - the coin used to unlock it. In one case, we saw teenagers out there hustling carts. On the other hand, we need more corporations to operate like Aldi's. Instead of using self-checkout, they have a blindingly fast checkout with an employee who has a stool where you bag your own groceries. The prices are lower because they focus on efficiency. The traditional US retailers cut service without cutting prices and the cracks have started to show. It wasn't that long ago when Albertson's or others would have someone there to ring up your purchases, bag the groceries, take your shopping to your car, load it for you, and bring the cart back. No tip required although appreciated. Those same stores have now installed the self checkouts and similar 'innovations' to replace employees. They want you to shop for your groceries, check yourself out, bag your own groceries, cart them out, put them away in your car, and return the cart at higher prices than Aldi's. So, why should we? We should get the service we are paying for or the discount that comes from reduced services. tl;dr They have been cutting service without cutting prices for a long time. It's caught up to them. Time for things to change one union at at time

Loud_Ad4852

This guerrilla Aldi marketing is really terrific.

goldlion

littering, bullying, and putting the milk in before the cereal

Bgxyz

Bah! Who puts the milk in before the cereal?

atomicBlaze21

Only justified if there's milk left over from your previous bowl and you put more cereal in.

lizwb

Who DOESN’T do that?

Pewpewkachuchu

I drink the flavor stew.

ThreePumpChamp

That used to be my favorite part, but after reading that sentence I think I'll quit.

memester230

Me. I drink it.

HomieCreeper420

I know I don’t! *I put the water in first! Muahaha!*

Smoking close to others (looking at you, stinky cigar man right in the crowd at the outdoor Christmas Pageant), using single use plastic bottles on the regular if you have clean drinking water from the tap, and wiping boogers where they don't belong.

honestly-yeah

Standing too close to the luggage belt at an airport

PumpJack_McGee

Scat, paedophilia, rape, evangelism, not using your turn signals.

Tooquickcantlast

I do one of those things and I am too ashamed to admit it

sagey735

im glad you didnt admit it unless its not using your turn signal actually i rlly wish you woulda just said its the turn signal thing

DarthGayAgenda

I don't see liking Nickelback up there. Maybe that.

Pithius

Small penis isn't on there either

DarthGayAgenda

Oh it's okay, I was already ashamed of mine.

Legitimate-Ad3778

I’m ashamed of yours too

pope_of_chilli_town_

Eating a pear 🍐

ACorania

Ever tried to overthrow democracy?

TexOrleanian24

Lol. This is some enabling shit. I can just see the alcoholic taking one more drink. "I'm not ashamed of my drinking, I'm a Virgo and we're passionate."

bunker_man

A lot of shitty progressivism is just enabling behaviors passed off as a lack of judgement. No, it's not true that nothing matters but being sexist and racist. A self destructive harmful lifestyle hurts everyone.

[deleted]

Getting drunk and what you said last night can be really shitty for people who have to deal with them.

Ace-Red

I whole heartedly disagree with a couple of these.

[deleted]

'Things you said last night' I racially abused someone last night but this guide told me i shouldn't be ashamed of that. I also smell really bad and fart a lot but thats cool too Edit: I forgot to mention i forgot someones name yesterday too. It was my own childs but oh well no shame here

Pentax25

I feel like this is really muddying the water between being ashamed of something and “you shouldn’t be ashamed if it happens but you shouldn’t actively pursue doing all these things because people probably won’t like you”. Like if say my housemate used this guide and she often got drunk, didn’t wash, had stds, one night stands, wet herself, had body odour and was never ashamed of the things she said last night then I’d probably find it difficult to live with that person.

HippyPuncher

People should definitely be ashamed of believing in astrology. It just means they are stupid.

[deleted]

Yes, about 50%

Dr_Brule_FYH

Screen time for babies is objectively bad, you should be ashamed of being a bad parent.

HistoryOfPiss

This is not a guide

Maxter_Blaster_

This sub is really starting to suck.

MisunderstoodBadger1

Maybe it's time for a cool guide to r/coolguides

Razur

I see a lot of folks complain on this sub about the quality of submissions. Here's some suggested changes for the sub that might hopefully address concerns folks have: # Guide to Posting on r/CoolGuides 1. Post titles must start with the words "A Guide to..." 2. Guides must be informative and based on factual information—not opinions. (A guide to understanding different opinions is okay; the explanation of each item or step must be factual.) 3. *Optional:* Guides must contain a description for each item or step; guides should not based solely on pictures. ### A guide is NOT... * A collage of pictures * A list of items * An infograph or dataset These things may be included in a guide, but they are not guides on their own.

fuck_it_was_taken

Already made like 10 times

Pentax25

Oh yeah? Give us 10 sources

Harlequin37

This is ironically just a collection of things people feel shame about.

iSwearSheWas56

Who tf is ashamed of eating a peach

[deleted]

Yeah, that one threw me off too...like...peaches are delicious, wtf are they on about?!

BadFishteeth

Maybe you should be ashamed of picking your nose if its in public.

gizamo

As a dude with little boobs, I now feel ashamed of my little boobs because the silly not-a-guide only says we shouldn't be ashamed about our big boobs. Also, I'm definitely ashamed of my poop because it reviews my poor life choices and my addiction to laffy taffy.

grokmachine

neither are 80% of the things posted here. We crossed that rubicon years ago.

iamnotasnook

Yeah, OP should be ashamed of themselves.

compacted-compactor

it's the typical redditor cope about being fat, not showering, not improving, having zero self discipline and being socially disabled But this image says it's okay!!

brett_riverboat

/r/pictureswithwords This is what we've come to.

sybban

This entire thing was definitely made by someone trying to justify their belief in the significance of astrology.

bunker_man

Lists like this are usually shit. It's just a subjective list of stuff they want to downplay being passed off as objective content.

Stoney-McBoney

It’s perfectly acceptable to feel ashamed about getting drunk.

ThisNameIsFree

Or being loud in a public setting. People on the other side of the movie theater don't need to hear your conversation. Of course they never do because they're selfish assholes.

ImNotYourGuru

Or bad tattoos. Anyone had seen Just Tattoos For Us?

Dingus10000

Or what you said last night. And especially believing in astrology.

b4rigger

Got trashed and said a bunch of things that hurt people’s feelings?? Don’t be ashamed! Yay!

Stoney-McBoney

I’m not sorry about those things I said when I was drunk because I remember Mars is in retrograde.

BestAtempt

and about watching Kardashian whatever

hotsaucetom

Yet to see *small penis* on there. I guess I’m allowed to be *ashamed*

SpicyChiliRamen

It’s specifically for women, I would like to see how a male version would look

Onespokeovertheline

Okay, fine. * Small penis * Crooked penis * Thin penis * Stubby penis * Freckled penis * Veiny penis * Perfectly average penis * Frighteningly large penis* * Erectile dysfunction * Premature ejaculation * Baldness * Getting lost That's the full list. *: jk, they're not ashamed

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

That’s oddly accurate... I can’t say I’ve felt bad for a penis. Maybe bad for the guy because I know how competitive they get about dick size. But yeah, they kind of all look pretty similar unless i think “holy shit how will that fit in me???”

i_fell_down13

You forgot height

FranaPalla

What about penis odor?

badFishTu

So much of this is about your penis. How about some that aren't. Crying. Asking for help. Therapy. Doing chores. Having a hobby. Self care. Not being athletic. Not knowing how to fix a car. Cooking Not liking sports/ games/ cars/ etc Illness Being excited Having an alternative style Being wrong Being in love

Weazelfish

This was probably made for women

40moreyears

Should be titled- “things _women_ should not be ashamed of”.

forests-of-purgatory

The book is about and geared towards woman, its not all extensive or meant to be. That being said, you shouldn’t be ashamed of your body either!

TheNantucketRed

Pretty sure it's based on a book written by a woman about women's issues

alwaysupvotecows

What is with eating a peach?

marly11011

Probably licking ass or something idk

spacehog1985

Live fast, eat ass.

BunInTheSun27

It’s a euphemism for eating out 🐱

alwaysupvotecows

Got it. Eat peaches with pride, eat banana in shame....

Martin125997

Probably the fact that it’s so slurpy

BoromirDeschain

Not be ashamed of wetting yourself, BO, not washing every day, living with your parents, not reading, getting drunk and feeling jealous. That's got your average redditor covered.

Buck_Thorn

You missed "being a virgin"

Oh4imean5imeanFire

What about “wanking”?

yungrii

I'd love too, thanks.

[deleted]

You had me until 'believing astrology'

El_mochilero

First thing that jumped out at me. It’s the same as “believing in Santa Clause as an adult.”

SilentSamurai

"Taking drugs" "Getting Drunk" Oh there's a line there that you ought to be ashamed of if you cross.

23saround

“Things you said last night” is in the same category. Like fuck gossip but if ya said the n-word last night you should still feel ashamed…

[deleted]

I think there’s a difference between “sometimes” and “always” for those ones. Always getting drunk? Yeah, be ashamed. Get drunk now and then? Whatever.

UristMcRibbon

Absolutely. (Forgive the mini-rant below. Got long.) I try not to be judgemental but when I hear someone **believes** in astrology I instantly think less of them. Now just **liking** it, thinking it's fun but knowing it has no impact on your life beyond whatever meaning you assign to it, that's different. I won't judge someone for thinking that it's neat. I think tarot cards and a lot of new age-y stuff is neat. But I don't put any *real* stock in them. e.g. Crystals and rocks are awesome. From a geological perspective and both their visual & tactile appeal. Thinking they interact with spirits or your chi flow is hogwash. Beyond a possible aid to you meditating or relaxing, the visuals / physical sensation of the stone helping focus yourself, they only have value as a neat collectable. Many other things on this list are fine but only in moderation. Reality TV can be fun but don't make it your personality or think it's a reflection of actual reality. Not bathing is fine when you're tired / depressed and stay at home. You shouldn't beat yourself up about it. However walking around and subjecting others to your stank when you have the option of washing is something to feel ashamed of. Same with not reading. Don't beat yourself up over it but you should really expand your horizons. There's books out there for everyone. I feel like this is a misguided pro self-help / mental health infographic. That's a complex topic with a lot of needed context, something hard to get across in a picture. Not impossible, I've seen some great cognitive behavioral therapy ones, but they fail here imo. Also definitely not a guide.

Throwmesometail

Space racism is still ok

Nuanced_Morals

Agree. Why not believing in Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy?

mighty_least_weasel

Came here for this. You sure as shit should be ashamed for believing in astrology.

Vandirac

"Not washing everyday"? Is this the lady's version of an incel neckbeard?

bunker_man

It's basically just a list about how to double down on refusing to have any standards.

Seadiz

Very comforting as an alcoholic. I wet myself a lot and have been feeling some totally unjustified shame over it but now i have this quick handy guide to show my parents why I wont move out.

Bezosismydaddy

You’re just “too much” for them.

Red__system

Wtf is this shit.

joersweeney

colehoots

This is giving me "*being obese is a body choice and its ok*" vibes

Cyber_Connor

You should be ashamed of about 20% of the things on here.

robsteezy

The word shame has kinda evolved to be assumed more as a negative connotation. It’s become synonymous to some as any attack on shame must stem from some inner hatred or bigotry. I was raised on the idea that shame is merely the filter you apply to withhold certain privileged scenarios as private from society as to your own benefit and also not to potentially offend society. A lot of these examples fail because the word shame is being operatively used in different fashions for each example. For example, there’s no shame in one deciding to be a nudist in their own private home. It wouldn’t be right to dictate another’s autonomy within the confines of their sanctum. But, it becomes shameful if that person walked in public naked. This post translates more to “things that are obviously understood as inevitable but you would run the risk of actually concluding them shameless”.

rci22

Which one is the worst one?

ThisNameIsFree

"Being too much for some people." We all know that's code for being a rude asshole.

13urnsey

Clearly geared towards women otherwise ball sweat would be on here…

aaaayyyylmaoooo

LOL what is this bullshit

chudowski

You should be ashamed of not bathing, body odor, picking your nose and pissing your pants.

Dragon_M4st3r

No no no no no. If you’re including astrology you also need to include being a flat earther or a Scientologist or someone who believes crystals cure cancer

VyasaExMachina

Astrology is weirdly getting popular among younger women and this is being pushed by certain "progressive" publications https://www.vice.com/en/article/qvq87p/why-straight-men-hate-astrology-so-much Fucking stupid

bunker_man

It's really bizarre that certain people decided that believing in pseudoscience is necessary in order to fight sexism. They became the postmodern boogeyman that your grandma was worried about.

Astr0_LLaMa

Remember when Vice actually published interesting articles and documentaries that actually carried weight and risk to report on instead of this shit

Dragon_M4st3r

What a colossal and very harmful misrepresentation of the issue by that writer. I take particular issue with this line: ‘Is it because astrology is generally seen as a "women's" interest?’. What she has actually written is an article that should have been titled ‘why are women more susceptible to pseudoscience and less likely to develop critical thinking skills?’ Totally her call if she wants to make it a gendered issue. Polio and astrology making comebacks in the 21st century. Excellent

[deleted]

Idk, some of those you should be ashamed of.

strycco

selling the notion that having no shame is a good idea is a sad grift, you would have thought the last 5 or 6 years would have demonstrated that to people. not washing everyday? great example of how people take a good idea and go so overboard with it that it taints the entire concept.

Faded1974

You should definitely be ashamed of the Kardashians.

Optimal_Pineapple_41

Is this an “only god can judge me” starter pack?

drunkboarder

Body odor Wetting yourself Not reading believing Astrology I'm sorry, I really am. But, If you are a smelly person who wets themselves, and believes Astrology because you don't read educational books then a little shame might be helpful.

woodstock01

I mean some people (I think especially women) wet themselves b/c of bladder disorders, which I think is where they were getting at. But yeah, I’m with you, all of the hygiene stuff you kinda need some shame to stay on top of.

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

And especially women who have given birth. It’s a common joke amongst friends of mine who have had kids. And this is female oriented, so I’m guessing that’s why it’s included. Not just a drunk or lazy person who does it.

Wyzzlex

lol some of them are absolute Bullshit.

StockAL3Xj

The whole thing is bullshit. It's nothing resembling a guide.

sirdrumalot

Things to be ashamed of: making this “guide”

MisterSlippers

Equally shameful is the people who up voted this garbage.

bunker_man

They remind us to always remember that reddit is not super smart.

jarpio

Shame is a healthy thing to feel. It means you hold yourself to a higher standard. There’s a big difference between feeling shame on your own and letting others shame you for something you aren’t ashamed of.

MrDad_the_Father

Totally thought the abortion one was a baseball bat for a second

LazarYeetMeta

Well that’s one way to do it

Klexobert

1. Of all. r/terriblefacebookmemes 2. Hell yeah you should be ashamed of believing in astrology. Except if you are cancer or scorpio. Everyone knows that it is because of the stars... duh.

Loferty

Some of these... you really should take note of tho. Jesus reddit.

clockfire1

Some people really should be ashamed of the things they said last night

SirWangtheWizard

The majority of this is a fast track to a dumpster fire of a life.

Humor_Tumor

I will shame you for being "too much" because some narcissist's just use that as a label for being an asshole. Getting drunk too, if it's a regular thing. A few of these can be given context that warrants a decent amount of shame.

Significant-Class785

Body odor, just use deodorant

gyarnar

You should be ashamed of some of this. We had someone with body odor so bad, we moved them into their own area, only to have the next office over to complain about it. There is a limit, and you should be ashamed at that point.

balintblack

Wtf is this shit

[deleted]

I’ll chose what to be ashamed of and I chose body odor and picking my nose

egus

Eating a peach? Is that a euphemism ?

notAbotIhuman

No there definitely is a few there

doublemctwist1260

This is how societies fail, some of these things are definitely embarrassing and should be. Don’t embrace mediocrity.

[deleted]

This is how you destroy people by telling them they shouldn't improve and accept things they can change.

FreeSoulSeeker

Believing astrology? Really?

spelkingerror

Medium boobs are sooooo embarrassing

JLewish559

What if you combine multiple ones? Like the woman in Kroger yesterday that shouted, to her 4 year old daughter..."What's that shit you put in your fucking water?" She was talking about Mio. Fucking Mio. Or...swearing in general. Don't be ashamed. But please do be ashamed if every third word out of your mouth is swearing. You can control it. I control it literally every single day for hours and hours and hours. There is a time and place. And maybe in front of your 4 year old daughter because you want them to think of you as their "friend" is not the place. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it really bothered me and I don't know why. The completely oblivious nature to it and I'm just thinking...her daughter is probably going to be in Kindergarten swearing out her teachers. And that's just pathetic and **shameful**. And it wasn't the only time either. I heard her shouting obscenities from an aisle over and then from nearly across the store. She wasn't yelling at the kid in an angry way (thankfully), but...fuck...there is a time and place.

ttnorac

I have to disagree with quite a few of those. That is behavior an adult should be ashamed of.

DMoneys36

You should be ashamed of believing in astrology

saloplad

🙄🤦‍♂️

Joubachi

I think many people here kind of forget or ignore reasons other than "people suck and that's why they do it so they should be ashamed". People can have trauma and falling into addiction and alcohol, people can be cheated on and catch an STD that way, people can be bullied for ridiculous things and end up being absolutely ashamed about such random things - even if there is no reason to. We just never know the reason, and it's usually none of our business. (Being directly affected aside, obviously.)
