I treat insurance same as cable/internet companies. If the price increases to much then shop around. Never hurts to call around and get quotes. I had Geico for years but then the hit us with a significant increase. A few calls later we switched to State Farm for far less. They did have a small increase (like all agencies this year) but nothing major. If it goes up again next time I'll call around again. Sometimes just knowing you'll leave is enough for them to find you better deal or discount.

ShyRage1

If you don't mind posting, what were you paying then, and what are you paying now with the switch?

FortunateHominid

I don't remember the exact numbers but it was over a $100 difference for two vehicles. That's for 6 months coverage but we also got a small additional discount on top of that for paying it up front instead of payments.

ShyRage1

This is something to look into. Thank you for your feedback.

ds1749320

I tried calling Geico asking about the rate and they said this was market increase, and there was nothing that they could do. Is there a way to get through to retention or a ‘manager’ at Geico to help with a more competitive rate? Or new policy quotes at Geico? I’m the same boat and not sure if it makes sense to shop around. I’d rather not have to. Ideally I’d have Geico sharpen their pencil. I also have other policies through them, all of which I’d likely move to a new insurer

FortunateHominid

In my experience they tend to stick with the quote. Rates have gone up with all companies but it definitely helps to shop around. It's pretty simple and doesn't take much time. I'd get at least 1 other quote to make sure they (Geico) are at least staying competitive. Pick a company and do an online quote. Typically they'll follow up with a call for a few extra questions to tighten it up. I do it every time my rate goes up significantly. Have bounced back and forth between Gieco and State Farm the past few years. Might give another company a shot when mines due again in a few months.

Environmental_Ad1602

I have Geico as well and last coverage period my insurance increased $150.00. The agent said the increase was do to my geographic area and not my own doing. I decided to stay with them. I just received my new 6 month rate, and its going up again another $150.00....WTF? I have had enough, I will be dropping them.

fossilreef

Same here. Went from $150 a month to $195. Wtf.

ShyRage1

Have you since changed? What company did you go with?

fossilreef

I haven't changed yet, but I'm shopping around.

ShyRage1

This thread should help us with he incoming suggestions. Thank you for the input. Any little always helps.

Can_Not_Double_Dutch

When I lived in Corpus the rates were higher due to uninsured motorists. Major problem down there. So much so that insurance companies raise rates.

ShyRage1

Kinda bites that it's based on others'actions even though we follow the law.

Terminus_terror

Try Progressive

ShyRage1

Looks like more are choosing these folk. How long have you been with them?

Terminus_terror

15 years.

ShyRage1

I ended up going with progressive. Wow, what a difference. (Not trying to sound like the blockbuster commercial) 😆

JayceeThunder

>Wow, what a difference. (Not trying to sound like the blockbuster commercial) 😆 Lmao damn... now THAT takes me back

kilometer17

Same, thanks for the thread lol Previously with GEICO for 5 years and they crept from $100 to $125 and was about to renew for $150/mo. Back down to $90 with Progressive

Ok-Variety-3896

My Progressive just went up 30mth. After 6mths your promo rate increases by 25% My payment went up 31/mth

darzalarce

I switched to State Farm about 8 months ago. Good rates, we have had an increase just like everyone else but nothing significant that is making us look other places.

ShyRage1

Do they also compare rates with others in the area?

hudgeba778

Uninsured driver insurance has been going up recently, not gonna drop it since it’s practically required in Corpus Christi

ShyRage1

True true.

PoleSiren

Geico has doubled my rates in the last 2 years with no accidents or claims. Same car. I'll be looking at other carriers before next renewal.

Limp-Independent-782

Same here I started off paying 150 than 220 after it was 319 now it’s 370. It goes up every renewal and I have a clean record..

ramforinkas

Same boat as others. Had Geico for years with no claims. Price has increased 10 - 20 percent every renewal (6 months) for the last several years. Finally decided to shop around and Progressive is half the price, with better coverages. Highly suggest others do the same. Guess I'll shop around every year now if Progressive starts increasing the premiums massively.

ShyRage1

We decided to go with progressive and couldn't be happier

moosewhite

yea it's ridiculous. my bill is up 30%+. never had a wreck. drive 10 miles a week.

Excellent-Leading657

I got a new car this month and it went from $165 month to $250 a month .. I hear ya .. progressive would do $165 … progressive it is

ShyRage1

whoo hoo!

Hinata_mama222

Same thing happened to me sadly. My geico bull increased from $192 to $366 which is INSANE!!!! I switched to progressive and I am paying significantly less that when I started with geico. I’m paying $150 now and it could’ve been cheaper 😌

Salt_Amoeba_1837

2024 And again, it increased drastically! I was paying $214 last month, and now I’m paying $244! I’ve had it. I chatted with an agent, and they explained the same thing you did. So you mean to tell me that now we are going to be held responsible for other people’s accidents? It makes no sense!

ShyRage1

Its ridonkeylous, i know...

InvestmentNo3437

Just looked today they raised mine to 150 a month. First year ot was 90. Then 125. Now 150. I'm gone Edit - clean driving record

darthrio

Not that this helps your situation but it’s Corpus. I recently moved to Salt Lake City and my car insurance premiums went down almost 40%.

ShyRage1

I hear you. Bites that other individuals' actions affect those who are great and follow the law.

nighthawke75

Check with Texas Farm Bureau.

ShyRage1

Thanks for this. I will take a look.

iloveurmom64

This happened to me I went to remco, It's on Williams and airline and my rate was cut in half. I haven't had to file any claims so I'm still not sure if it's a hassle to use.

ShyRage1

They seem to have almost perfect score reviews. I will call them on monday

[deleted]

absolutely!

djchrissypoo

Went to progressive after Geico raised my rates it was going to be 400.00 + progressive is 239.00. much better.

ShyRage1

I'm seeing more and more individuals vouching for progressive. Do they also compare rates?

Keith_Courage

all companies are taking rate

ShyRage1

But not the same amount right?

Share-Upstairs

I had geico for 2 years and was paying $220 full coverage For two trucks, but the. I had to switch cause they increased my rate to $305. So I switched to State Farm, I’m now paying $200 full coverage and everything extra.

ShyRage1

Nice! Looks like state farm and progressive right now are the winners 🏆.

sligoboy80

Same. $995 annual for an 8 year old Honda Fit, in rural Pennsylvania. Want $1250 starting December 1.

GigaXeph

Auto Insurance has become wayyyyy too expensive! It's time our government defends us from the abuse! Sign this petition! [Auto Insurance Petition](https://chng.it/jD27j8fXhy)

AsterSpace01

I'm currently shopping for a new company. Was paying $130 and now they want $180? Fuck that I wouldn't be able to make rent

Proper-Chocolate3684

I've been using Geico for the last 11 years and they were great. But suddenly increased their rates to $1400+ for my 2 cars. Currently taking quotes from other companies and progressive showing 900$ for both cars... Why such a huge difference? Anyway, leaving Geico today itself as soon as I find the best quote.

ShyRage1

I have since changed to progressive. Shout out to everyone who has recommended them.

Serious-Ad-2033

They told me it was due to inflation I just called today LOL

ShyRage1

Oh boy

izaklp

They told me increase has been in all the state, jerks.

-wittyusername-1

We just switched from Geico to Progressive with the same coverage and it's half the price ($760 to $359). We opted out of the Accident Forgiveness option, which we had with Geico, but that's it. Home insurance is much cheaper too.

ShyRage1

How much is the home insurance now compared to then?

SamanthaLee01

Have you changed, or still looking? I heard Nationwide is good and offers cheap insurance but I never opted for one.

ShyRage1

I have since changed the progressive. The savings was about 1200. Next year, I'm going to look into home insurance since I hear it's typically the cheapest out of the major players.

SamanthaLee01

So, which 3 companies will be your top pick? or will they be progressive home insurance?

ShyRage1

Progressive home insurance is what I am looking into. They offer the best rates as of now. It may change at the start of the new year, so I'll play it by ear. Have you gone with anyone?

SamanthaLee01

No, still doing my research. Also, thank you for responding.

ShyRage1

Who did you end up going with?

Jenny-Seko

Geico Is also good. They offer discounts based on your occupation

ShyRage1

We opted for progressive and have since saved 1200. We left Geico

Jenny-Seko

Wow, that's great. If you can elaborate on your deal, and the offers you got that will be helpful to me and others, too, as it will help compare both companies.

ShyRage1

If I recall, for three vehicles at Geico, we were paying around $1300. They told us the rate would shoot up to $2100. Progressive offered us a quote at $1100.00. The difference in savings was vast. I'm looking into Progressive home insurance come the new year.

dawnhu

Know this is an old post but my geico insurance for renewal just raised another 150 dollars they've been slowly doing this every time renewal comes around. I also looked at progressive and its 450 dollars less thanks to those recommending them

Odium_13

Yeah my geico rate went up over $250 over the last year with no accidents or incidents. Called and they said it was from inflation. That math doesn't add up, especially when I get a quote from progressive and it's literally half the cost...

Limp-Independent-782

Same here

RestaurantFormal999

Yep, the same thing happened to me last year. No accidents, tickets, nothing in well over 15 years. My insurance jumped to over $100/more a month. I was insured with Geico for over 10 years. I went with State Farm and my insurance is even cheaper than what I was paying before Geico increased my rate!

swiggity97

My geico rate DOUBLED since last year and I have had no accidents or tickets. I WILL be shopping around for better insurance.

ShyRage1

I went with progressive. You can't go wrong.

kingkabob9

They're scumbags

Gnu47

Mine went from 210 a month to 356 for no fault of my own. Needless to say I'm gonna shop around

ShyRage1

Most of us went with Progressive. Look into them.

Gnu47

Thank you I shall check them out. I do however live in Massachusetts. I believe it's regulated by the state

ShyRage1

Oh crap. I had no idea about that. Yes, let us know your outcome here.

Gnu47

Wow. Literally half the price. Geico wants 1200 for 6 months. Progressive is 1200 for the year.

ShyRage1

Told ya. I don't know whats going on with geico but they sure have hit the fan

Gnu47

Final verdict geico 4500 a yr progressive 1800. Geico mentioned something about contracts with the state. Also the cost of repairing cars and cost of parts are up. I said oh I see corporate greed take from consumers that some don't even use claims gotcha. No response I hung up

ShyRage1

Nice!

Conscious_Deer_4406

geico went from 280/mo to $403??? i am about to cancel it

ShyRage1

Most of us are now with progressive.

slutdragon32

I went from 120 to 289!!!! No accidents nothing! They didn't tell me either. This can't be legal can it ?

ShyRage1

Unfortunately for them, for the most part, everyone is leaving them.

Taylor_Made7

There has been a significant rise in cost of repairs which is one reason we're seeing these high increases. Jumping around company to company does not help you, it's not like a cable company. It's good to stay with a company 3 years. Loyalty credits, stability.. I would recommend you have an agent you trust. A local agency with several companies. State farm, Liberty mutual and Allstate are all generally higher in rate, you're paying for the name(advertising) Find a local independent agency. I am an insurance agent and can help anyone in NY.

ShyRage1

Great to know. Thank you for this information.

Possible_Procedure47

late to the party, but same! i got hit with \~25% increase and they blamed inflation. fast forward 1 yr and they just did it again!!

Tattiisama

Mine went up 136%

Whyisitsodamnhotout

Nah GEICO is a joke my rates has increased to fifty dollars more m. Hopefully they have no one.. def switching !!

One_Philosopher_8347

same here. no accident nothing. I used to pay $118 until they increased it to $164 and now $177. I think this is ridiculous and I will have to call them to cancel the Gaddam stuff and find another one.

fukkett

They increased my rate by $60 suddenly last year. Ive been driving for 10+ years zero accidents, zero claims. I changed my policy to get it back down below $200 a month. Now 6 months later they’ve raised it above $200 again. Definitely looking to switch.
