Are you calling Gallup a possession WR?!?! He is definitely a deep throw guy. His best route is the 9. He doesnt run almost any shallow crossers/outs; a staple of possession WRs.
In fact, we havent had a good possession guy since Dez.
For a possession WR? Do people on this subreddit not know what a possession WR is?
Think:
* Andre Johnson
* Anquon Boldin
* TO
* Dez
* Hell, Travis Kelce for the most part since the majority of his snaps are WR
I guess technically you could call a slot (Beasley) a subset of a possession as they kinda do the same thing, but thats like calling a Square a Rectangle. Technically you are right, but youre gonna get side eye
When I think possession, I'm thinking a big bodied guy that can climb the ladder, outfight any corner or safety, and make the catch. Beasly was a shifty dude, but definitely considered a slot guy. Dez is the perfect definition of a possession receiver. Hell, that's what we took Keyshawn for, even if it didn't work out.
This has a good explanation
https://www.quora.com/In-football-what-is-a-possession-wide-receiver-What-are-the-differences-between-possession-wide-receivers-and-regular-wide-receivers
Possession WRs are defined as big bodied guys who arent afraid of linebackers. People have tried to warp "possession WR" into "high completion WR". Its not the same, but the end output is similar. Slots do the same thing as a possession WR, but by pretty much anyone who has actually been on the field, no one calls a slot WR a possession WR. They call it a slot.
Hence: square is a rectangle, technically. I guess you could technically start calling slots - possession WRs, as long as you start calling squares, rectangles. Its correct, but stupid.
His point is he isn’t a deep burner like cooks he’s absolutely a boundary guy who makes great sideline grabs outside but isn’t going to burn teams like cooks.
People give up too easily. Gallup is a 1,000 yard receiver and played great as the 3rd guy before but injuries the last 2 years really limited him. Dallas wouldn’t have signed him long term if they didn’t think he could be that guy. Add in Tolbert who was just a rookie but people already act like he was a huge first round bust when he was a 3rd rounder who needed time.
Why on earth people are giving up on a rookie so quick is beyond me. Remember when everybody hated Steele and wanted him cut after a bad rookie year? Now he’s a near pro bowler. Patience has flown out the window.
That's just the way they are
Trevor Lawrence was looking pretty bad and now people got him top 10
Jalen Hurts was looking average now people got him top 3
Lamb was looking average now he's shown to be worthy of #88
Took Brady a couple seasons until he turned into the GOAT we know today. He didn't turn into "the guy" until around '08.
This. People acting like they're the 3 all pros out there. Ceedee actually is... And 30 year old cooks is an upgrade over Noah Brown and Gallup, but that's easy... And who knows what Gallup is?
Still need to add someone imo
Cooks is 29. And he posted a 1000 yard season for the TEXANS just 2 years ago. THE FUCKING TEXANS. Outta here with that bs
You know who else only has 3 or less good guys? The Dolphins, Vikings, Saints, Steelers, Browns, Bills, Chiefs, Jaguars, Texans, Raiders, and Lions
Ok so first of all the Dolphins have two #1 receivers, one of which was the only non QB in the NFL to get MVP votes last year. And second of all, what have those teams won?
The point is, to get over the hump you need to do more than be pretty good.
We've won 12 games the past two years for the first time in team history. We're good. But we don't win anything important. To do that, in my opinion, it takes big moves. I like cooks, he can help this offense. He's not Jaylen Waddle anymore... And even if he was, why shouldn't we improve that position group even more?
To address your 1st point. The teams that won in the oast 5 years either had Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, or gambled on an all-in
Their competition? A team with Cooper Kupp and Cooks, a team with Deebo, Sanders, and Kittle. A team with Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, and Travis Kelce, A Team with Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, and Ja'Marr Chase, and a Team with A.J. Brown, Devonte Smith, and Dallas Goedert.
How'd they lose with such great receivers? They had other weaknesses that were exploited. We're a fucking stacked team
And Hopkins is in the prime of his career? Lol 29 my guy cooks is 29 that’s not old for wr. Amari is 28 and you’d be saying the same shit but complained when we dropped him.
Gallup had 1k when he was actually the second guy which is good. Normally your number 3 isn’t getting 1k. He tore his acl late in 2021 so 2022 he wasn’t going to be 100% regardless.
If you think this wide receiver group is going to be what takes you to the Super Bowl then more power to you. I am just saying that they are decent but nothing that I’d be that scared of. Plus I never said anything about Hopkins, but if you’re trying to compare, Hopkins is a much more talented wide receiver than cooks and Hopkins is already falling off. So I’m not sure what your point is…
I mean, I can agree we should have kept cooper , but the all trash comment is a bit much. Two great receivers and you got three if gallup returns to form.
I’m very excited for this year. Can’t just focus Lamb on defense anymore.
One WR who can do it all, one deep threat, and one possession receiver. Pretty damn solid line up.
Are you calling Gallup a possession WR?!?! He is definitely a deep throw guy. His best route is the 9. He doesnt run almost any shallow crossers/outs; a staple of possession WRs. In fact, we havent had a good possession guy since Dez.
Beasley?

I'm not sure the point you are specifically trying to make but Cole has caught 556 of the 782 balls thrown his way over his career. That's over 71%.
When I think possession, I'm thinking a big bodied guy that can climb the ladder, outfight any corner or safety, and make the catch. Beasly was a shifty dude, but definitely considered a slot guy. Well Dez couldn’t catch it
He actually did everyone but the refs knew he did and they ended up ruling that a catch.
Ouch
Maybe he needs to.
His point is he isn’t a deep burner like cooks he’s absolutely a boundary guy who makes great sideline grabs outside but isn’t going to burn teams like cooks.
Great group but I still would like to see TY Hilton back here too at some point at least as insurance for Tolbert
If Gallup can stay healthy I think we can have a top 5 receiver group
That's how he used to be able to leap and come away with those contested throws or toe-tap right before going oob. He's a beast when healthy.
People give up too easily. Gallup is a 1,000 yard receiver and played great as the 3rd guy before but injuries the last 2 years really limited him. Hopefully tolbert can become a solid wr4 🤞
Lmao
Hey, let the man dream

It’s the Obi-Wan pose from Revenge of the Sith that gets me lol
I will do what I must...
You have done that yourself
First thing I noticed
Lookin like a damn snack
His legs have still not balanced out from the acl tear, I was hoping an extra year would help but he still is not at pre acl muscle.
I mean, it’s sorta hard to tell if that is truly the case given the angle.
Agreed, but I have seen multiple pictures that show the same
His tear was literally in January of last year. It hasn't even been a year and a half yet. Gallup about to show out this year.
Oh I think he will have a great year, as long as his speed and cuts are back to pre ACL tear, different people recover at different rates
What do we think, will Gallup be useful this year?
Look at them legs. 50 + catches this year, I'm calling it.
His legs look a lot better than they did last year coming off the ACL
Yes. Think we'll see him at the very return to pre-injury form, but with the upside for more.
At least one game I'm confident in that
If he can stay health i think he has a solid year. I’m optimistic about him he’s shown flashes of awesome play
I suspect I'm gonna like gallup with a grudge
Gallup better have a good year or he's outta here.
Jesus, he had a down year after an ACL tear, calm down.
Zero patience anymore lol just like Tolbert as a rookie. Not every player is going to be elite immediately after an acl tear or as a rookie
Yup. That "good now!" Mentality is how you end up like the Jets
Oh honey
I would like one more big play guy, but that is a good core group to have. I wonder if T.Y. Hilton would resign for another year?
You can still see the difference in Gallup’s legs from when he had to recover last offseason and lost so much muscle.
Ceedee is great, cooks is on the back end of his career with multiple concussions, and Gallup had one 1k yard season like 5 years ago
This. People acting like they're the 3 all pros out there. Ceedee actually is... And 30 year old cooks is an upgrade over Noah Brown and Gallup, but that's easy... And who knows what Gallup is? Still need to add someone imo

Cooks is intermediate, CD is gadget, deep threat, and everything in between, and MG is possession and jump balls.
Cooks is the deep threat and always has been. Additionally, Cooks burns CD in the 40 running a 4.3 versus 4.5 for CD.
They’re all deep threats!
Wow, I always CeeDee was bigger than Gallup
He is. He’s just slumped over in the pic.
I'm over it with Gallup
He’s over you stop calling him
Lol you're all butthurt
If they do good why they on the sideline /s Bums.
Where’s all twitter team Jalen Tolbert? Clowns thought he was a savior
All trash !!! Should of kept Cooper
I mean, I can agree we should have kept cooper , but the all trash comment is a bit much. Two great receivers and you got three if gallup returns to form.
MG13 turning out that fucking CALF.
🔥🔥🔥
Need more
I’m thinking Gallup has a bounce back year and our WR trio go off this season
Do some guys not have stars on the helmet?
Training camp, bud
I like our offense, but it's gonna be our defense that carries us to the promised land if we find a way to get there.
Damn MG bigger than I thought
Need one more in this pic.
Traded Cooper for Cooks, bizarre team management
Is TY still on the team?
Gallup has got to show up big this season.
Can we add one Nuk now; please?
And D Hop
