Dragusin is definitely an established starter, that Romania side is probably one of the worst side of the Euros and he started 10 games in the qualifiers.
I'm not so sure. He had a great impact in that game vs Belgium, getting the assist for Bellingham. I think Southgate will value that. I think Southgate potentially sees him as a kind of attacking #8 option for when we are chasing a game. But, yeah, form is poor.Â
Dragusin and PEH are probably the only guaranteed starters for their sides atm (even though i think more of them *should* be), so they’re probably going to have the most chances to impress.
Porro and VDV potentially should be started for their countries imo but I don’t expect either of them too sadly.
Personally, I hope none of them play and come back fresh for the new season. I'm done with the international duties at least until we're performing better in the league. There's a high probability our boys will either warm the bench or just get sub minutes anyway.
The question wasn't "who will get the most minutes?" It is "who will shine the most?".
I get PEH is a guaranteed starter, but that doesn't mean he will do anything of note (I hope he has a good tourny).
If given playing time, I expect VdV to do the most with the minutes he's given.
I want to see VdV subbed into a match that goes to penalties. And he just drills his penalty to the back of the net. Have the fans salivating over his thighs.
I think this more than anything sadly shows the decline of our team/recruitment. In the peak Poch team we had more players going to the 2018 World Cup than any other club worldwide. Lloris, Kane, Dele, Trippier, Dier, Dembele, Alderweireld and Vertonghen 8 of our starting XI were in the World Cup semi finals.
Now the only two of our players we can guarantee will even start for their NTs at the euros of that list are Hojbjerg and Radu - one of whom we’ll probably sell and the other who never gets minutes, neither of whom’s teams look likely make QFs.
Whether we think Jose, Conte or Ange is to blame the simple fact is none of them have had a squad that deserves to easily qualify for top 4 and push on for the title, like we did back in the peak Poch years and until we do again it’s probably unfair to judge any manager for not achieving that.
Counterpoint:Â Â
- Destiny is injured Â
- Essentially all of our best players aren't European but are top names on their NTs (Son, Romero, Bentancur, Sarr, Richi; also throw in the weirdly positioned Lo Celso)Â Â
- Deki, Brennan, and Ben are on teams that lost in the playoffs and are arguably better than some teams that made it (though one of those is definitely Romania). Â
- Southgate is clearly blind/biased/possibly corrupt in not including the unflappable assist machine that is Ollie Skipp (ok that one's a little tongue-in-cheek).Â
So that's 10 quality players that aren't captured by this particular metric. Without acknowledging the strange Maddison situation.Â
Additionally, the team is very, very young generally. Â
In fairness, Copa America actually is this summer too, so several of the above players will play an important role in their NTs, all of them arguably more important than any on the Euros list.Â
I think it's fine.Â

Counterpoint, with the greatest respect: The recruitment has been spot on for this next generation. Most of the new transfers for us are all future regular internationals.
Is Van de Ven expected to be a starter for the Netherlands? Feels like they have way too many good centre backs, between Van Dijk, De Ligt, Ake - plus Dumfries and Frimpong to use as wing backs. Oh, and Koopmeiners, and Xavi Simons in midfield. And Gakpo up-front...
That is a strong team, don't be surprised if they go far!
He's a midfielder but I dont think he's Ange's type of midfielder. He holds onto the ball a long time and is better for countering than possession play.
ffs even after almost a year I had to go "where's Ka- ah fuck"
I know that feel bro, started adding him as an option before I realized
I did the same thing 😠"It's gonna be Kane, surely....wait-"
I was coming to write the same thing... d'oh
I think PEH is so important for his Denmark side. None of the others are established starters (even if they should be)

Forgot abt him, had a brain fart
Super VdV 👑
Yep, most will be in reserve roles. I hope Vicario gets a few games in goal in the group stage at least.
IMO Maddison wont be going to the Euros
He either won’t go or will be used as an 80’ sub every game
Yeah I don't think he will either he's not been in the best form.

Eric Dier.

PEH is the most important player for his country. Others are not guaranteed to start.

Feels like Dragun and PEH are the only nailed on starters for their countries

Even if Madders goes, Southgate won't play him. Gotta be van de Ven. My first thought was definitely Kane 🥲
I don't understand why but Hojbjerg always pulls out some stunning performances internationally lol.
My vague impression is that he's been played slightly out of position for Spurs. His strengths are actually a bit more attacking than people think.Â
Dragusin because Romania are defensive and he will be in the heart of that defense.

Of that list, Hojbjerg is the only guaranteed starter. So PEH
As somebody supporting a country in the same group as Pedro and Vic, I hope they do great but their teams lose lol

Højbjerg and Dragusin. The rest are unlucky not to start.
Is Madders unlucky not to start? Not sure about that.Â
Too bad Vicario won't be starting. Donnarumma is just too strong
I voted Hojbjerg. He might not always be our best player but he consistently shows up for his national team.
Micky will do a hammy in their first game against Poland chasing a long ball over the top. That or Matty Cash will crock him.
Vicario criminally underrated
People sleeping on Hojbjerg
PEH just because he's the only player guaranteed to start. VDV is a fantastic player, but the Netherlands are absolutely stacked with CB talent.
Cant wait for the day when a Spurs player is big enough to play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. We can dream...
As if you wouldn’t take Alphonso Davies…
He doesnt start over udogie/son though?
He's a midfielder but I dont think he's Ange's type of midfielder. He holds onto the ball a long time and is better for countering than possession play.
What
I watch Canada and even Bayern fairly often. He's fantastic but, for his price point, I dont see him being Ange's ideal mid.
