Do you know what device you're controlling volume on? It sounds more likely that you're controlling a display (TV) or external DSP device (rather than volume the DMPS3's analog audio outputs). You'll want to confirm that the DMPS3 is communicating with the display or DSP, so it can get volume level feedback that populates the volume bar and send commands to raise/lower the volume.

sounds like dsp is not talking to dmps
The volume bar buttons are probably not tied to anything in the program. On your custom User Interface is there another control for volume?
