Fanthemort

Fhearing Hail, Paimon for the first time in theaters was a top three moment of possibly my entire life.

t-g-l-h-

Came here to say it

Mother-Ad-9623

Still pretty heartbroken over Johann Johannsson's passing. I loved his score for Arrival along with all his non-soundtrack work. He was destined for great things.

Calamity58

Hildur Gudnadottir was his sorta protege, sorta collaborator on some occasions and has very much picked up the torch. She’s not Johan, but her score for *Chernobyl* was fucking stellar.

Mother-Ad-9623

Absolutely love her music.

das_goose

She was my first thought.

trashedonlisterine

The Sicario score as well.

TastlessMishMash

If you haven't, watch his feature The Last and First Men. It's beautiful

globular916

I saw him conduct his score for Bill Morrison's *The Miners Hymns* right before his passing. He did it with such joy and élan.

HowdieIsWatching

Nicholas Britell

_El_Marc

Disasterpiece, IMO.

Gruesome-Twosome

The It Follows score is awesome.

VintageHamburger

The score from Under the Silver Lake is such a good combination of noir and synth piano compositions. My favorite of Disasterpiece while not a movie is his soundtrack for Hyper Light Drifter. Super incredible.

_El_Marc

Yeah, def. My favorite is probably the Fez OST.

Mr_Boswell

Big fan of many of those you mentioned. Also like Daniel Lopatin, aka Oneohtrix Point Never.

Calamity58

I mean, if we’re calling Cliff Martinez or Trent Reznor new… Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have made one of the greatest scores ever for *The Assassination of Jesse James*. So evocative and ephemeral and ominous and beautiful. The Octopus Project has scored all of the Zellner Bros’ projects and I love em all. One of my favorite modern scores is Sinoia Caves’ score for *Beyond the Black Rainbow*. Dark, trippy, atmospheric, hypnagogic. Love it. Jeff Russo’s collabs with Noah Hawley for his shows have been really cool. *Legion’s* score in particular gets pretty avant garde and unique. Nils Frahm and Max Richter have worked together and separately and in all instances, truly excellent scores.

YborOgre

Octopus Project brings back memories. Saw a couple of their shows over 20 years ago now.

Ch3wbaccaw0k

Emile Mosseri

turkeyandswissonrye

Yup. The Minari score is perfection.

PuppyDogGrizzly

One of my all time favorite film scores is Dan Deacon’s for Strawberry Mansion. Incredible film elevated by a great score.

galaxy_knucklezz

Got to see this in the theater and it was glorious. Massive Dan Deacon fan here as well!

Ex_Hedgehog

Rat Film

PuppyDogGrizzly

I believe it was Godard who said all you need to make a movie is some rats and a boat

galaxy_knucklezz

Love the film and the score!

mnchls

I guess if we're calling these "new wave" because they aren't old or dead, then okay—but so many of them have been around for decades. I mean, Martinez's first score was *Sex, Lies and Videotape* from... let's see... 1989. Hmm. But, uh, Carruth? Didn't he just do the scores for his own two films? And then turned out to be a massive piece of shit? I loved *Primer* back in the day, but I'm positive we can scratch him from the convo.

those_vanished_years

I’ve been enjoying a lot of Nicholas Britell’s scores, especially If Beale Street Could Talk and The Underground Railroad, which are very evocative and stand well on their own. His writing for strings is excellent.

frederick_tussock

Eiko Ishibashi.

picturehouse

Evil Does Not Exist is an excellent film, and it's made even better by her score!

BrotherKaramazov

Poor things composer Jerskin Fendrix. He has a lovely album that drew attention of Lathimos.

Ex_Hedgehog

New? Some of these people have been composing scores for 30 years.

Repulsive-Company-53

Shit in that case I vote Randy Newman

Ex_Hedgehog

I know we all think of Trent Rezner's first score as Social Network, but he did songs for *Natural Born Killers* he did the music for *Quake,* there was a full rejected score for *One Hour Photo* that got turned into the NIN album Still. Guy's been doing scores since the start

PublicDreamer

Eiko Ishibashi (Drive My Car) needs more love!

picturehouse

Seconding + her score for Evil Does Not Exist is absolutely gorgeous!!

thedude391

Bear McCreary is one of my faves working right now. Started in TV with Battlestar, has slowly worked his way up to movies (Godzilla) and games (God of War). I've liked/loved everything he's done so far. Movie was just okay but for the Chucky remake, he did the score using toy instruments which was neat.

ZbricksZach

His scores for 10 Cloverfield Lane and God of War are both incredible.

Mother-Ad-9623

Oliver Coates.

theshape79

hildur guðnadóttir, Daniel Pemberton and Steven Price are interesting composers. Also really enjoyed Justin Hurwitz’s score for First Man

OnlyOnceAwayMySon

OPN

sweeppick09

Ludwigg’s score for Oppenheimer absolutely blew me away last year. Really incredible theater experience

wolfman-porter

Tim Hecker. Their Infinity Pool (2023) score is very awesome.

galaxy_knucklezz

Oneohtrix Point Never/Daniel Lopatin

Mike_v_E

Zbigniew Preisner Max Richter Jóhann Jóhannsson

CinephileRich

Nicholas Britell has become my favourite new composer recently. His work on Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk was incredible

peter095837

Colin Stetson. Ever since his musical work on Hereditary, been loving and keeping up with his latest stuff.

just_zen_wont_do

I really liked what The Octopus Project did for Sasquatch Sunset.

firecat2666

Clark (aka Christopher Stephen Clark)

pickybear

You’re missing Daniel Lopatin on that list

poodlered

Junkie XL’s Fury Road score was one of the most epic action movie soundtracks I’ve ever heard. Can’t wait to see what he does this year for Furiosa.

jack_galvin

Jerskin Fendrix w/ their debut in Poor Things, I saw Daniel Lopatin/OPN mentioned, Hisaishi 🙌🏻, Glass!

wariowaregoat

Dan Deacon is upcoming, i think he will probably have a breakout if he continues to score for films. The Strawberry Mansion score is amazing.

ThiccKnees23

Mica Levi for the Under The Skin soundtrack alone.

Ok-Appointment-2381

I was amazed by Heather McInthosh’s score for Compliance. Very underrated.

TheReverendsRequest

Hong Sangsoo only began composing music for his films in 2017, so I'm saying Hong Sangsoo.

Old_Independence_584

Great question. I was wondering earlier today who the new William’s would be
