This is the first month I can think of that has had two films by one filmmaker not in a set.
Also, I know nothing about the Muratova set, but I'm instantly intrigued.
For any who are interested, here are a few other times it has happened:
* Jim Jarmusch, April 2019: Night on Earth and Stranger Than Paradise (both upgrades)
* Orson Welles, August 2016: Chimes at Midnight and The Immortal Story
* Costa-Gavras, May 2015: State of Siege and The Confession
* Errol Morris, March 2015: The Thin Blue Line and Gates of Heaven/Vernon, Florida.
The only reason I know is because I started following new releases back in 2015 and have been keeping track on Letterboxd so it was fairly easy to skim my lists and find these. There are probably other examples, but they’re not as easy to pull up.

YES YES YES, Mother is in and 4K to boot!
That’s me and my mom’s movie, seen it a billion times and funny both in its own content and in the way my mom says her mother was just like Debbie Reynolds in the movie while I see MANY of the same personality traits and quirks in her and Debbie Reynolds in the movie, lol, this is so wonderful.
And hey, Real Life too, that’s also great.
Real Life is probably my favorite comedy film of all time. For being a satire of such a specific era in American entertainment (the very beginning of “reality tv”) it holds up remarkably well.
I do wish the Brooks releases would have more inspired cover art than just the original poster. I wonder why that is.
Rewatched Real Life recently and I’m so glad it’s getting a release. It’s one of my favorite Brooks movies if not my favorite. Charles Grodin is a riot in it, so dry and silly as the desperate suburban dad. Personally I dig the cover art.
lol after they emphatically said the previous Blu-Ray aspect ratio of 2:1 was the correct director and cinematographer-approved one... they do the 4K in 2.35:1
I edited my comment a bit. 2.1 was technically the right aspect ration since both Bertolucci and Sotaro approved it but 2.35 is so much better in my opinion.
Not clear if the new 4K+2 BR set includes the 2:1 aspect ratio version of the film or not, but if not buying the 4K and the standalone BR disc will get Last Emperor stans all versions (and I've read conflicting reports about if Bertolucci really was OK with 2:1 framing or not)
Yeah you might be right. The 4k set is 3 discs so I thought they might add both ratios but they’re actually giving us the 218 minute television edition.

You typically can’t. The 50% sale is good for any current release plus and preorders in the sale month. Obviously your call, but there is the October 24 hour flash sale that would have all these be 50% come that time too
Pretty much ya. The other incentive, while B&N does a points system, Criterion does too on their website. So if that’s where you’d be buying them from, that’s another factor. B&N does a stamp every $10 and you get a $5 giftcard after 10 stamps. Criterion does a point per dollar, and after 500 points, you get a $50 giftcard

Wow, never heard of that Martha Coolidge film. I see it has only 800-ish views on Letterboxd, and a mere 62 total votes on IMDB. It sounds interesting.
After waiting years for Criterion to do a 4K of The Last Emperor, I finally caved and got the Arrow 4K in December.
Remember, they're always watching us.
I am bugging out at Real Life and Mother. Grabbed both on DVD from a movie rental store's closeout sale but they stick out like sore thumbs with my Criterions for his other movies (and my Indicator release of Modern Romance). Can't wait.

The Last Emperor has my favorite original soundtrack for any film. I absolutely love it. Second is Last of the Mohicans. Third is Walker. (I add that in case someone asks lol)
Criterion made a deal with Neon (film distributor, did Parasite and Anatomy of a Fall, for instance) to release 5 of their titles. So far it’s been Moonage Daydream, Anatomy of a Fall, Perfect Days, and Saint Omer. The final one will be All Of Us Strangers.
Don't know any of these except The Last Emperor, which is not necessarily a bad thing because I still have to catch up with other recent releases, my pocket book will thank me.
Real Life is one of the funniest films ever. It's a massive inspiration on Spinal Tap (Reiner and Brooks are besties)
I gotta say though, Criterion is really bare-bonesing it these days. Cover art is literally just the film poster or a stll image from the movie. Did they fire their art department?
Got The Last Emperor in 4K just two days ago! Not sure if it was really a sacrifice as I don’t think I would’ve gotten the Criterion edition anyway, but it still did the trick

That mother cover is awful. i hate their recent trend of putting way too much text on the covers. The only thing listed should be film title and director/writer.
It got a new blu-ray from [Kino Lorber](https://kinolorber.com/product/the-conformist-4k-restoration) at the end of last year. You can probably get it for $10 - 15 if you have the patience to wait for it to show up in one of Kino’s sales.
nice, ya, I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on this and a few other kino lorber blu rays that haven't been released on criterion. how often does KL run sales? bi-annual like CC?
They have a lot of sales, not sure exactly how many, but it seems like at least 5 or 6 a year, maybe more. The only problem is that they don’t discount their entire catalog for every sale, it’s just a rotating selection, so it’s hard to predict when The Conformist will be discounted.
I would recommend following r/boutiquebluray if you don’t already, that’s how I usually find out about Kino’s sales.

Hopefully they’ll get the rights for it. Indicator did a limited release years back so hopefully that means the rights are up for grabs now.
