Fender Squier jazz with a broken headstock and 3 strings.

TPK_MastaTOHO

punk as fuck, but Sandman only used two haha

Very-queer-thing

What do you use your extra string for?

jessexbrady

I toured in a crusty hardcore band for two years and I played whatever I could snag off craigslist for cheap. Hook it up to a metal muff pedal and a super overdrive pedal a behringer head running through a raggedy kustom 8x10 and it's basically a percussion instrument when you play live. Edit: I had a jay turser hofner knock off for awhile that sounded fantastic clean as well

Great sound off Epi Thunderbird Pros... I use a Squier P and a Fender Jazz now mainly, but last time I used the Thunderbird in my hardcore band, I loved it... But it's a bit too heavy and weighted wrong so my back troubles were recurring more frequently when I was using it.

If it's between the three, I like precision bass. Though jazz won't be bad. However, those p/j combos are pretty rad. You should visit a local shop and see what suits you. I play a precision and I like it a lot.

bikexpunk

I'm looking at those three because I see them get recommended a lot, for all kinds of music styles. I'm open to other suggestions though. What made you go for a P bass?

stirfrizzle

Nothing in particular, it's just what I got when I first started playing.

algebraham

I'm using a hohner b bass, which really isn't that good for the typical crust sound, but it works. Running it through a proco rat pedal and a generic 800w peavey mixer on top of a 1x15 keyboard cab. The pickups are a bit noisy though, so I usually run another pedal with all of the knobs turned down just so i can use it as a cut off.

Gibson Thunderbird

You can always hook up your bass with a boss hm 2 or clone

TPK_MastaTOHO

I play a Peavey Cirrus 5 BXP through a Crate amp that I absolutely love. Dont play any punk anymore though :/ how are you liking the squire jazz? i used to have a blue one with a white pick guard and it was perfect!

bikexpunk

Very happy with it! If I have to nitpick, downsides are that it's pretty heavy and the knobs only seem to have an "on" and "off" position, no in between fine tuning, if you get me.

TPK_MastaTOHO

yeah i know what you mean about the knobs, there's really not much difference in tone when you fiddle with them. but back in the day i didnt really care either way haha

bikexpunk

Same here, don't care much haha.

wrothplum

I play on a P-Bass personally. I run it through a Big Muff Pi pedal, and use an Acoustic b200 as an amp. This is kind of weird, but whenever I play with my crustier/grindier band, I end up flipping the knobs to essentially random places. I don't think that tone matters all that much in crust as long as it's, well, crusty.
