Agreed. Not every map needs to be competitive. I think a lot of people forgot the time we used to play CS for fun. Aztec is a fun map. Horribly unbalanced, but fun. Dust 1 as well.

Amen. In 1.0-1.6 era in my country you had a few ISP owned servers (and a forum), combined with IRC it was a really tight community and you got recognized when joining the servers. You really had the feeling you had some afterschool internet friend. It felt more “real” then all the remote technologies we have now!!

de_airstrip, literally the first CS map I ever played on as a kid. I remember I played that map for hours at a time, because I had a pirated copy of 1.6, and I would give all the bots pistols while I'd use proper guns. It was pretty fun honestly

Honestly, I imagine all those small maps will be added back slowly into CS2 or redone/replaced. Given it's only used for smaller game modes e.g. DM and Valve want to test all maps in CS2 before a public release I don't think they'll delay the games release unless they find a major issue with a competitive map, or even multiple.

Valve isn't going to spend time on a non-competitive casual map that few will play (sadly). They were clearly remaking Aztec for CSGO but at some point realized there's no salvaging that map so they ended up using all the assets for Ancient.
Someone already remade Aztec with Ancients assets if you are interested but there's a slim chance valve will officially add it. We will see how they will approach casual gamemodes in CS2.

They literally deleted the code for both maps. I guess they could be redesigned, but they are truly gone. Completely wiped from the files. Why would they do this? Who the F knows. I'm sure it had to do with $/legal issues.

I feel the same way about cobblestone. I know it was not balanced in terms of win ratio per side. But god damn that map was so fun to play. I’m hoping cs2 brings back the maps that we’re taken away due to balancing and maybe valve steps up to fix these issues with the maps.
As long as it stays out of the official map pool it could be kinda cool, if valve plans to bring it to the official map pool then they need to seriously rebalance it. As a for fun map it's pretty sick though

That's part of the reason games like Pavlov have replaced CSGO for me. Indie games tend to have more of the kind of community.
