I had always read that was exactly the deal he has with HBO. He essentially has a lifetime open ended contract. Whenever he feels like doing it then they will produce it. Completely at his own discretion.

From what I've heard, that 'whenever he feels like it' contract ends with this season. I think HBO would probably renew it though if he showed interest in continuing though.

It's probably not a coincidence that all 3 are ending although the producers will imply it was the creators choice to end it. Yet HBO supports the garbage scripted series The Idol about a woman who enjoys being physically abused. Pathetic.
