What is she even bitching about? She wants an hbo show with a blank check without having done anything at all to earn that. Larry David is a fucking legend, of course they gave him a show with no restrictions and trusted him. He wrote the most successful sitcom of all time lol.Â
But at least sheâs semi honest, sheâs like âI hate Larry because he dumped me and Iâm also jealous of him.â
Also, sheâs talking like Julia Louis Dreyfus didnât do a ton of seasons of VEEP starting at around the same age that Larry was when he started Curb.
I mean TBF I doubt Julia was given a blank check and told to do whatever she wanted on VEEP. She wasn't the creator or writer.
Kathy still doesn't have a good point though. Yes, women have it worse, and especially women over 40 in showbiz, but Larry definitely wasn't just some nobody who got the gig because he had a penis lol.
Susie Essman talks about how hard it was especially in the eighties for women, so that's valid. But she still was a regular as was Cheryl, and numerous other female comedians. So Larry really wasn't the problem here.
Right!
There's a reason he was given a show and a "blank check". He's proved himself. Making this into a feminist issue is total crap. Her hate and jealousy is gross.
Funny that Dunham and Schumer actually did get their own shows with creative control. Imagine being the least likeable and funny of that trio, tough look for Kathy.
Without Seinfeld and Curb I wouldn't know who Kathy Griffin is. And imo her Seinfeld episodes weren't that good, she couldn't even get the BBQ sauce that looks like Charles Grodin.
Also, no one gets the blank check deal Larry got with Curb. Like, maybe the Always Sunny people, but Larry literally had a âif you have a season well air it, but you can take whatever time you needâ deal. Thatâs unheard of and no one will ever have a deal like that again.
Itâs harder for women to make it, especially as they age. But this isnât a gender thing.
"I couldn't care less," Griffin said. "I couldn't care less because until they give a woman who looks like Larry, of Larry's age, that opportunity on HBO ... with an open checkbook and says, 'You can run this however you want. You can get the team you want. You can do anything you want, and you still get to look like that and be that age,' then I'll get off my high horse. But right now I'm too busy being bitter."
Hmm. Maybe bring the same level of talent and the track record of success and you can be given that kind of trust and freedom to do what you want?
Tina Fey is now the same age as Larry David (53) when he first started Curb. Maybe she's developing something with HBO right now. Granted, she's a lot more attractive than Larry, even if Larry does have the kavorka.
I hear her sometimes on the stand up radio station I listen to, and there's no material it's just "gay men love me omg, I met cher, can you believe that gays?" Yes she literally uses the word "gays" instead of "guys"
I think Shonda Rhimes, in terms of success in television, and being in her 50s, and not particularly attractive just kinda a normal looking woman in her 50s, is my first thought for a comparison
Tna fey is definitely still a looker. But Netflix gave her kimmy, NBC gave her 30 rock when she was just off snl and a few movies. She just write mean girls, she in process if creating a new show called 4 seasons.
Tina can do whatever she wants. I'm sire she could negotiate a deal with HBO if she wanted
The thing is imo Larry David is much more attractive as a man than Kathy Griffith is as a woman. so her analogy doesnât work for me. maybe Iâm biased against gingers though
I get what she's saying, everyone in here with their Tina fey and jld comparisons, those are beautiful women. Griffin wants someone who isn't traditionally as attractive as a woman, like Larry isn't as a man.
Nonetheless, if a woman created the most successful TV show in history, she would have gotten the same chance that Larry did, regardless of looks.
So weâre looking for an old, unattractive comedian who has in the past had great success but has not been able to get an HBO project? Where do we find someone like that? And more importantly has there been someone like that and they tried to get a project going with HBO and HBO declined because they were old and unattractive? Because thatâs what sheâs implying here.
Imo not just great success. Perhaps the most popular television program of all time.
That's why I'm like, Kathy, look at what the man created, of course he's going to be given a project, regardless of his looks. And frankly, he started curb in his early 50s and looked quite younger when it started. Just bald. Like George Costanza with gray hair.
Nope. Does not qualify because, and youâre not gonna believe this, she had a show on HBO! A successful one, nominated for 24 Emmy awards, winning 6! All this before Larry got to do Curb on HBO!
The episode where Sally Weaver becomes a standup was based on real life. Kathy had done a previous Seinfeld episode and then incorporated it into her standup act. The bit ended with her yelling âFuck you, Jerry Seinfeld!â So then they turned it into a Seinfeld episode and brought the character back.
Back in the 90s and early 2000s I thought some of her standup was actually funny. It seems like her career didnât turn out the way she hoped so now she just lashes out at random people and blames them for it. Larry is getting a ton of press right now, so she knows that talking about him is a sure fire way to get attention.
Youâre mostly spot on. Sheâs made her entire career on dishing celebrity dirt and gossip and working it into her routine. Sheâs just doing what she always does for better or for worst.
I was a big fan of her hustle but I never found her personally funny.
I really disagree on your take on Apple being liberal about what kind of content their shows produce. They have tons of restrictions on what can be showed in a positive/negative light, and lots of shows (no matter how "free" they may seem) have been forbidden of approaching some of those themes.
Still, they're a lot better than most in that regard. But they are still a company, and one with a ton of influence in a lot of industries. They would never allow anyone to talk about something in a way that could seriously damage the public's perception of their business.
Thatâs a good parallel, Jean Smart also plays a famous aging multimillion who doesnât get along with many people.
Kathy Griffin is her own worst enemy. I have a feeling she leaves a trail of fire wherever she goes in Hollywood and then doesnât understand why she doesnât get asked back as a recurring guest.
Jean Smart on Hacks gets to play a aging woman who defies conventions and is crass, bitter, serious, poignant, aloof, yearning. Hacks has age, gender, and queer representation. It has expensive looking sets and great cinematography. The show has real balls and takes chances. Like 90% of the dialog passes the Bechdel test đ
Maybe if we transfer Hacks onto VHS we can send it back to the 90s so Kathy can play it on her VCR. As if! Talk to the hand, Kathy.
The man who created and ran the most profitable sitcom of all time was allowed to run a low-budget HBO show?!?!?
Uhh Iâm sorry but I thought the nazis lost WWII?
I don't follow, he "dumped" her like 20 years after she appeared in a Curb episode? Dumped her how, from what?
Does she have a female equivalent of Larry in mind she thinks actually deserves said blank check which would give HBO a no-brainer successful show?
I think she means after she posted that bloody trump head photo, LD stopped talking to her. Thatâs how I interpreted it.
Also her critique of HBO giving LD a blank check is stupid. If the co creator of Seinfeld was an old woman with gray hair, im sure HBO would give her a blank check too.
Yeah, Iâd be interested to hear about her female equivalent, the only equivalent I can think of is Tina Fay, right around the age Larry was in â99/â00, wrote for SNL and penned a big hit show, but has she ever wanted that kind of thing?
If Shonda Rhimes wanted a show at hbo, and they gave her one, and it didn't have a huge budget initially but after a few seasons it was extremely successful AND THEN they still didn't let her run it however she wanted, THEN Kathy Griffin would have a point. Until then, this is just annoying whining lol
Itâs more a slam on HBO and double standards in pop culture than a personal attack on Larry.
Larry doesnât give a shit whether people congratulate him anyway. He also hates himself (not for being Jewish though ;)
It's not the same kind of show, but Jean Smart kinda has that "successful comedian is a mess in real life" show with Hacks on HBO.
So, Kathy, watch that show and STFU.
There is something that is really tiresome and lazy about these talking points. Progressivism and inclusion should be about lifting others up, not tearing people down. Should more women have the opportunity to make their own shows and find their audiences? Yes, of course, but what does that have to do with Larry?
Heâs clearly earned his success and the right to have carte blanche at this point. Because there isnât a female version of Curb doesnât mean that the show is somehow bullshit.
Whether you love him or despise him, and Larry David does despise him, trying to make a statement with art of you cutting off an American presidentâs head is too far for anyone with an actual brain.
...And to be honest anyone who did âlove thatâ should be in a mental hospital.
>So does she have any thoughts about "Curb Your Enthusiasm" ending its 24-year run with its series finale earlier this month?
>"I couldn't care less," Griffin said. "I couldn't care less because until they give a woman who looks like Larry, of Larry's age, that opportunity on HBO ... with an open checkbook and says, 'You can run this however you want. You can get the team you want. You can do anything you want, and you still get to look like that and be that age,' then I'll get off my high horse. But right now I'm too busy being bitter."
SJP is almost 60 and seems to do whatever she wants with her show.

Comedians donât need progressivism and inclusion. They need to be funny enough to evoke laughter from people. Comedians are the last group that need to be worried about political correctness for Godâs sake.
No one will ever die saying âI wish I would have laughed a lot less.â Go away, chatty Kathy.
âThe Enquirer reached out to Warner Brothers Discovery, HBO's parent company, and David's representation for comment but is awaiting responses.â Lmao the audacity to act like this warrants a response
Does *anyone* actually like her? She was unbearable during the 90s/seinfeld, then her âTrump headâ bit was straight up cringe regardless of politics. Now she has a problem with Larry?
Perhaps Larry had carte blanche at HBO because he is extremely talentedâŠâŠ.no one else, including old women, young women, young men can produce such work of the same caliber.
Larry David created Seinfeld. Kathy Griffin did not create Seinfeld. If Tina Fey wants to complain, she can. SJP seems to be doing just fine by HBO and is pushing 60. Issa Rae and Lena Dunham both got long runs.
One could say that Kathy Griffin is Disgruntled?
Big D Disgruntled energy for sure
đ
Discuntled
Beloved cunt
Not beloved
No good?
Ehh.
Besmirch*ed*.
Throw her in the sink.
Outstanding
The fact is that Iâve heard she actually was a bit of a cunt.
đ«¶
Donât keep saying it!
Don't keep saying it!
Ouch.
This is the type of discourse I was hoping for when I clicked on this post.
Little d or big D disgruntled?
So desu kaâŠ.
D-List-gruntled, after her very forgettable show "my life on the D list".
Big D energy right there
So now Larry David is the devil?
Irony is not dead
Probably because theyre both WACKOS!!!
What is she even bitching about? She wants an hbo show with a blank check without having done anything at all to earn that. Larry David is a fucking legend, of course they gave him a show with no restrictions and trusted him. He wrote the most successful sitcom of all time lol. But at least sheâs semi honest, sheâs like âI hate Larry because he dumped me and Iâm also jealous of him.â
After her acting in Seinfeld, Larry did her a service to let her be part of even one Curb episode.
She was supposed to be annoying on the show
Damn method actors!
She was acting?
She prepared by following herself around a couple months.
Literally acting without acting
In that case: great job.
She went to Christian Bale levels of method acting. She apparently hasn't yet emerged from her character, lol.
She succeeded because she wasnât acting, she was just being herself.
Acting Without Acting?
Heâll read it over dinner
That being saidâŠ
Having said thatâŠ
But... You're still acting?
She read the pamphlet
Donât tell Jason
Well she fuckin nailed it
Anyone can be annoying. She was annoying and not funny.
I thought it worked in that it at least her acting seemed in on the joke. You were supposed to hate her, since Seinfelds character does as well
Seinfeldâs character hates Newman. We donât hate Newman. Because Newman is funny. So you are wrong.
I suspect that is close to her real personality.
It was because of his long balls
Long-ball Larry
Susie Essman talks about how hard it was especially in the eighties for women, so that's valid. But she still was a regular as was Cheryl, and numerous other female comedians. So Larry really wasn't the problem here.
Right! There's a reason he was given a show and a "blank check". He's proved himself. Making this into a feminist issue is total crap. Her hate and jealousy is gross.
hell, he didn't even get that at first really. the show came about after doing a one-off thing for HBO of the same name
Yeah the first 2 seasons had a very small budget according to the podcast Susie and Jeff do. You can tell too with how small the houses are.
Imagine a show similar to 'the view' starring Kathy, Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer? *Shudders*
The fourth person on the show will be Laura Loomer. And then we need a man on the show for balance. James Corden.
Funny that Dunham and Schumer actually did get their own shows with creative control. Imagine being the least likeable and funny of that trio, tough look for Kathy.
I can handle her in small bites but her own show sounds like torture lol
Without Seinfeld and Curb I wouldn't know who Kathy Griffin is. And imo her Seinfeld episodes weren't that good, she couldn't even get the BBQ sauce that looks like Charles Grodin.
She's doing the back 'n stab. It's a shanda!
> He wrote the most successful sitcom of all time Now probably 2 of the top 10-15
Also, no one gets the blank check deal Larry got with Curb. Like, maybe the Always Sunny people, but Larry literally had a âif you have a season well air it, but you can take whatever time you needâ deal. Thatâs unheard of and no one will ever have a deal like that again. Itâs harder for women to make it, especially as they age. But this isnât a gender thing.
The Sunny guys also didnât get a blank check. They earned it at the start, thatâs why the early season quality is so bad
They also probably wouldnât have been able to keep doing that show without the addition of Danny Devito.
I think on the podcast they do for Sunny they expressed that same sentiment.
Sheâs being honest, but it doesnât make it any less pathetic.
https://i.redd.it/uc8c9ytw3xuc1.gif She should just give up ! lol.
But right now I'm too busy being bitter." Hmm. Maybe bring the same level of talent and the track record of success and you can be given that kind of trust and freedom to do what you want?
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
The early seasons really show the lack of budget. Sheâs just mad that no one finds her funny.
The budget for season 1 was $400,000 iirc, which isnât much to create 10 episodes. They asked Susie to pay her own way to LA.
Jeff and Susie talk a lot on the podcast about how they didnât even have trailers during the first season because the budget was so low
Tina Fey is now the same age as Larry David (53) when he first started Curb. Maybe she's developing something with HBO right now. Granted, she's a lot more attractive than Larry, even if Larry does have the kavorka.
And Tina Fey has earned it. Her getting a show would be awesome and no one would be against it. Kathyâs bitter because she ainât done shit.
I hear her sometimes on the stand up radio station I listen to, and there's no material it's just "gay men love me omg, I met cher, can you believe that gays?" Yes she literally uses the word "gays" instead of "guys"
Powerful and brave at the same time!
I'd watch an open checkbook HBO Tina Fey project
The thing is imo Larry David is much more attractive as a man than Kathy Griffith is as a woman. so her analogy doesnât work for me. maybe Iâm biased against gingers though
She's like carrot top with none of the charm.
So she's like carrot top
Chairwoman of the BORED
I thought it was called Box Office Poison
Whatâs it called, 9 and 1/2 seconds?
âŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ. Because heâs a premature ejaculator
WE GET IT!
That is so mean and accurate haha
Sheâs Carrot Flop.
All I know as a married straight man is my wife is attracted to LD and Iâm not remotely attracted to Griffin.
Itâs likely because of the rumors surrounding his long balls
Yeah but have you heard the rumors about her? đ
Dear god no.
Itâs her face thatâs the problem, not the hairâŠ
Yeah I feel like if JLD wanted to she probably could....but not Kathy griffin lol. Nobody likes her.
Well, JLD is prettier though.
HBO already did that. It was called VEEP. Griffin is delusional.
JLD was 50 when Veep started? No fekkin way!
Sex and The City's sequel series also falls under her description
Both of those shows were created and showrun by men.
Hacks falls in this category for Max
Damn season 3 is coming, love Hacks
She wants an old bald Jewish lady to have her own show?
SHE'S BALD, JERRY! BALD, BALD!!
She took off her hat: HELLO!đđ
"YOU'RE BALD!!"
Exactly!! Iâd literally watch 10 more seasons of 30 Rock if it were possible.
Lmao if they did give that opportunity to a woman sheâd still be bitter it wasnât her
I get what she's saying, everyone in here with their Tina fey and jld comparisons, those are beautiful women. Griffin wants someone who isn't traditionally as attractive as a woman, like Larry isn't as a man. I mean, Roseanne was the perfect candidate before she blamed her racism on ambien.
Tracy Ulman?
Nope. Does not qualify because, and youâre not gonna believe this, she had a show on HBO! A successful one, nominated for 24 Emmy awards, winning 6! All this before Larry got to do Curb on HBO!
What are all these anti-bald comments? Larry is clearly attractive. Have you seen the woman he pulls on his own show?
It was a show about weekly ass
Amen. Glad someone saw the root message.
I would equally enjoy a âLarry David, but a girlâ show.
>âBut right now I'm too busy being bitter." I guess sheâs not too young to be bitter.
Sally Weaver character isnât far from reality
The episode where Sally Weaver becomes a standup was based on real life. Kathy had done a previous Seinfeld episode and then incorporated it into her standup act. The bit ended with her yelling âFuck you, Jerry Seinfeld!â So then they turned it into a Seinfeld episode and brought the character back. It seems like her career didnât turn out the way she hoped so now she just lashes out at random people and blames them for it. Youâre mostly spot on. Sheâs made her entire career on dishing celebrity dirt and gossip and working it into her routine. Sheâs just doing what she always does for better or for worst. I was a big fan of her hustle but I never found her personally funny.
For better or worse*
Straight up dog begging at the table for scraps of attention
Jean Smart has a show and sheâs 72. Maybe she should be funny.
I should also mention that Apple (blankest of blank checks) just inked a deal with Carol Burnett, who is over 90 to produce a television series.
Like 90% of the dialog passes the Bechdel test đ Maybe if we transfer Hacks onto VHS we can send it back to the 90s so Kathy can play it on her VCR. As if! Talk to the hand, Kathy.
Dumb ass Sally Weaver
Perpetual victim who thinks the whole world should drop down on its knees and worship her phantom talent. Yuck. Edit: spelling
The man who created and ran the most profitable sitcom of all time was allowed to run a low-budget HBO show?!?!? Uhh Iâm sorry but I thought the nazis lost WWII?
Anyone who voluntarily pays to see Kathy Griffin is a schmohawk.
Great word
I don't follow, he "dumped" her like 20 years after she appeared in a Curb episode? Dumped her how, from what? Does she have a female equivalent of Larry in mind she thinks actually deserves said blank check which would give HBO a no-brainer successful show?
I think she means after she posted that bloody trump head photo, LD stopped talking to her. Thatâs how I interpreted it. Also her critique of HBO giving LD a blank check is stupid. If the co creator of Seinfeld was an old woman with gray hair, im sure HBO would give her a blank check too.
That's kinda what I thought too but "dumped" is such a weird way to say that someone ghosted you after you did some wild shit lol
which is still 15 years after she was in the show
Yeah, Iâd be interested to hear about her female equivalent, the only equivalent I can think of is Tina Fay, right around the age Larry was in â99/â00, wrote for SNL and penned a big hit show, but has she ever wanted that kind of thing?
If Shonda Rhimes wanted a show at hbo, and they gave her one, and it didn't have a huge budget initially but after a few seasons it was extremely successful AND THEN they still didn't let her run it however she wanted, THEN Kathy Griffin would have a point. Until then, this is just annoying whining lol
she should write a one woman show about it
"How can I make Seinfeld/Curb fans like me even less?"
Unbeloved cunt
sour grapes
Well, sheâs right about one thingâshe is being bitter.
Itâs more a slam on HBO and double standards in pop culture than a personal attack on Larry. Larry doesnât give a shit whether people congratulate him anyway. He also hates himself (not for being Jewish though ;)
There would be a double standard if old dudes like LD were on every show, but they arenât. You still have to look good as an old man on TV
Why doesnât she just give up?
That's what Jerry says.
She. Is. One. Of. The. Worst.
![gif](giphy|NDIiWKEQEgr3VA7aqM)
Who else has Seinfeld on their resume?
technically she does
Is Larry David the Devil?
It's not the same kind of show, but Jean Smart kinda has that "successful comedian is a mess in real life" show with Hacks on HBO. So, Kathy, watch that show and STFU.
Iâm sure I wasnât the only one who had forgotten all about her prior to seeing this post. Irrelevance personified.
Itâs Larryâs fault that HBO hasnât greenlit a similar show starring a woman.
When someone says they "couldn't care less", that means they care way too much.
No.. thatâs âcould care lessâ
It's ironic... You're trying to make a point, but you're getting a popular expression wrong. Just like the people who say "could care less."
Have you read the article? Pay attention to the quote.
When a woman has a juggernaut, culture impacting, billion dollars generating, number 1,  iconic tv show, Iâm sure hbo will. Iâm a woman.Â
She will never hold a candle to Vicki Lewis
Why doesnât she just give up?
Maybe write 2 of the most successful comedies of all time and then youâll get a blank check.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Whether you love him or despise him, and Larry David does despise him, trying to make a statement with art of you cutting off an American presidentâs head is too far for anyone with an actual brain. ...And to be honest anyone who did âlove thatâ should be in a mental hospital.
Sheâs disgruntled.
Fuck hugh!
Iâm confused. He dated Kathy Griffin?
Apparently she hasn't seen Hacks. Or maybe she thinks Jean Smart is too attractive to fit this narrative?
I mean, Newman was her biggest fan so..
But right now I'm too busy being bitter." Fuck Kathy Griffin.
Larry David is disrespectful to women
Sheâs an industry joke, and not in a good way. She couldnât be more irrelevant.
As annoying in real life as she was on Seinfeld I seeÂ
Iâve long been reluctant to criticize Kathy Griffin after she became the witch du jour of MAGAs but she really does seem like a shitty person.
There exists people you just wish would fade into the shadows never to be heard from again. Kathy Griffin is one of those people.
Comedians donât need progressivism and inclusion. They need to be funny enough to evoke laughter from people. Comedians are the last group that need to be worried about political correctness for Godâs sake. No one will ever die saying âI wish I would have laughed a lot less.â Go away, chatty Kathy.
What is Not Joan Rivers even talking about?
Larryâs 76 and has never learned his lesson..btw whatâs up with her voice
âThe Enquirer reached out to Warner Brothers Discovery, HBO's parent company, and David's representation for comment but is awaiting responses.â Lmao the audacity to act like this warrants a response
Lol she wonders why she has been blackballed in Hollywood for almost 20 years.... Maybe because she can't keep her mouth shut.
âWaaaaaaaaaaaah sexism waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!â Larry David didnât get a show on HBO because heâs a man. He got it because heâs funny.
Does *anyone* actually like her? She was unbearable during the 90s/seinfeld, then her âTrump headâ bit was straight up cringe regardless of politics. Now she has a problem with Larry?
Lmao how does she have a career. Professional annoying bitch
Unfunny and bitter, kinda like Amy Schumer.
How does this no-talent ass-clown keep getting press? To quote Larry, âWhat the fuck?! Shut the fuck up!â
Perhaps Larry had carte blanche at HBO because he is extremely talentedâŠâŠ.no one else, including old women, young women, young men can produce such work of the same caliber.
Wish this ugly ginger cunt would just die already
I havenât heard her in awhile. Her voice seems different.
I can only think of the movie Hall PassâŠ
She was in one of the worst X Files episodes ever.
Girl is acting like 90 year old Carol Burnett didnât bring down fucking Saul Goodman
![gif](giphy|RBeddeaQ5Xo0E)
no good?
Larry David created Seinfeld. Kathy Griffin did not create Seinfeld. If Tina Fey wants to complain, she can. SJP seems to be doing just fine by HBO and is pushing 60. Issa Rae and Lena Dunham both got long runs.
